Yeah I've been DCA'ing every week for a few years now. In 2017/18 ish I had 4 COUNT EM 4 full BTC and sold most of it for some material goods that I no longer have. I've since forgiven myself as I was going through a rough time and honestly the material goods brought me a lot of joy. However I continue to DCA and don't really have an exit strategy for fiat anyway. Thanks for your post =)

Most electronics are well protected from EM-surges, and if theres anything life-sustaining it's usually Faraday shielded or tested for its ability to survive EMI. Dollar cost average a few % to a set day every week or month.. stick with it and dont overdue, because you need some reserves as hard cash.. dont go in debt because its very hard to get out with fees and rates as high, especially with your credit score. learn about the credit score system, so you dont fall for the trap. the fees of overdue payments are extreme (i dont know the right words in english, im from austria).. nake a plam and stick with it. buy if all dumps.. buy if all peaks.. dont watch the gains and losses daily,.. most of the guys losing money in crypto do it because they need cash now and crypto dumped.. or they panic sell! Here’s a thoughtful counter-argument I’d be interested in hearing your response to. You’re right about Bitcoin not being a reliable store of value right now. Like you mentioned, the market cap is small which makes it volatile and risky. Ray Dali called it a “tiny thing”. However, you kept mentioning it’s not a store of value “yet”. I think you understand in time, it has the potential to become a store of value. I think people who call it a store of value are referring to it’s longer term potential, especially relative to other assets like fiat. Right now the store of value argument is theoretical. It’s finite supply and inability to be inflated, censored, or confiscated do make it an ideal store of value. But it takes time for the market to adopt such a new asset. I think someday it probably will be a great store of value, but it will take a long time for Bitcoin to find its place in the world. As it’s network effect and market cap grow, I think it’s volatility will decline and its use cases will grow. It actually already is becoming a true store of value and is used in transactions in some parts of the world without relatable national currencies. Ah, I see what you’re saying, yeah I pretty much agree with all of that. I’d also add though that one of the most important properties of any form of money is the network effect. Any form of money becomes more valuable as its network effect grows and it is accepted in more transactions. There is safety and security in using the money with the largest network effect, and right now that’s still the US dollar by a wide margin. So for most people looking to mitigate risk as much as possible, it still makes sense to use USD as it still has the largest network effect of any form of money. And most people are looking to mitigate risk as much as possible as when it come to regular banking, saving, and transactions. Bitcoin is still such a new asset, it’s still finding its place in the world, and the free market is still in the process of determining its value. That process takes a long time, as in decades, especially with a form of money the world has never seen before like Bitcoin. So it’s bound to experience price volatility as it goes through that process. I look at it as growing pains. Ultimately though, as its network effect grows, it’s value will generally trend higher over time. I think the reason it isn’t used for more day to day transactions, banking, and savings right now is because it’s currently riskier than USD and more volatile. And the cohort that’s willing to accept that level risk and volatility is mainly traders and investors. Any new or uncertain asset class would probably be used mostly by speculators with risk appetite at first. However, Bitcoin is reaching a level of maturity where it is starting to be used for more day to day transactions, banking, and even saving in some parts of the world. I think that’s mostly what you’re interested in is use cases beyond just speculation. In countries that don’t have a reliable currency, like Nigeria, Argentina, and Turkey for example, Bitcoin is gaining adoption faster and the people are choosing to use it to serve their day-to-day banking needs because it’s actually a relatively less risky option compared to their own national currencies. So I would argue that we actually are starting to see the types of use cases you’re talking about more and more as time goes on, mostly in other countries where Bitcoin has become more trusted than the national currency. In the developed world though we have pretty reliable national currencies, so Bitcoin is totally still treated like a risk asset. I think as time goes on though and Bitcoin’s network effect continues to grow, you’ll probably start to see it used more as a currency, instead of just a risk asset, in more developed countries too. The process of the free market figuring out what to do with a new asset like Bitcoin just takes a really long time. At first it will be used mostly by speculators with risk appetite, but as time goes on and the asset matures and becomes less risky, it will gain broader adoption and be used for other purposes. I think we’re still in the very early stages of Bitcoin adoption by the free market, so it’s still mostly in the stage of being used by speculators, but we are definitely slowly but surely getting to the stage where it’s mature enough and trusted enough to be used for other purposes. We’re seeing that process play out faster in other countries like I previously mentioned, but it does seem to be happening gradually throughout the world. Oh absolutely, you can invest in a million safer things, AAA bonds are available with decent Yields to maturity, EM etfs a have great value in them, even US indices have corrected quite a bit and many decent companies are available at attractive valuations. Crypto is for the 2-5% of the funds in your portfolio which are there for a little out there ideas. I personally can only see the uses of Crypto in failing/restrictive countries and currencies, there is no alternative to Crypto there and high interest rate regimes will lead to a lot more countries and economies becoming distressed, add to that the commodity bull cycle straining currency reserves of emerging economies throughout the world, Sri Lanka and Lebanon are just the first, there are many more to go. Political turmoil in Russia, Iran and China will lead to regular capital outflows and they will go to cryptos that can't be regulated and are liquid enough to convert into the currency of whichever country they are going to escape to, many countries like Singapore and UAE already understand this, and allow for direct use of crypto for many transactions. Another supporting factor for certain Cryptos is the effect of climate change and the migrations that will cause, Syrian war was the first of many wars that will be caused by resource shortage brought about by climate change, people, especially HNIs, will convert their capital into Crypto for safe keeping, as again a war ridden country will restrict capital flows as Russia did, and may even be sanctioned, further restricting legal capital flows. As Warren Buffet said "the only sure thing about the automobile revolution was being short horses". So in this Crypto revolution I'm only short collapsing currencies, and long cryptos that facilitate escape from them.
