Very up and down right now...mostly down. Sentiment isn't great currently. Manufacturers are cutting production due to inventory. With focus on AI and Semi, the lithium/battery market has been ignored. Looking at LIT and BATT etfs they have took a beating. Almost at bottom I would think. Still bearish on the sector. But have a feeling it will pop soon, when is another story. That said I do like LAC - Lithium Americas a lot. Released in Oct, bottomed out in Feb and think there will be forward momentum. Ready to make a position on it.

If you're bullish on lithium for the long term, consider looking into established lithium producers like Albemarle Corporation (ALB), Sociedad Química y Minera de Chile (SQM), and Livent Corporation (LTHM). These companies are well-positioned to benefit from the expected growth in the lithium market due to their strong market presence and production capabilities. Additionally, you might want to explore lithium-focused ETFs like the Global X Lithium & Battery Tech ETF (LIT), which provides exposure to a basket of companies involved in lithium mining and battery production. As for 2024, keep an eye on developments in the electric vehicle (EV) market, as increased EV adoption is a major driver for lithium demand. Continued consolidation in the industry could also present new investment opportunities in lithium stocks. Happy Investing!!

As someone holding LIT for a couple years now I agree and hope you’re right! Admittedly I can’t speculate with extensive knowledge of the field, but I still believe that it should and will be a growing industry with as the worlds transition to EVs continues.

Mentions:#LIT
r/stocksSee Comment

It is a fair bear case. Oversupply conditions could continue. If EV sales grow another 20% in 2024, they'll need another 200 million metric tons of lithium. Rapid supply growth was the story of 2023, but those prices rapidly falling have reduced production and has delayed projects. The prices don't need to skyrocket to where they were for lithium companies to make bank. If they stabilize around $25,000, most projects will be profitable. I have recently purchased shares of LIT and LAAC, to be transparent. I think LIT covers most of your bases, but I see extra value in LAAC.

You're a truly curious person :) SPX is single-listed on CBOE so the whole PFOF game does not really apply. Your order will be sent to the exchange (CBOE COB if it's a complex order), with a possibility of being routed to the floor (you can also select that). 1. For single-listed products, large funds will either (a) slice a large parent order into a collection of smaller ones and route that directly to the exchange or (b) call a dealer and ask them for a quote which later gets printed on the exchange. For multiple-listed options (e.g. single name), it's either (a) their prime has an SOR that would both slice and route to the exchanges or (b) again, call a dealer and trade it with them. In case of (b) market makers or (if a product has open outcry) floor traders might get involved and so the dealer does not get to cross the whole thing. 2. SPX book is a regular price/time priority book. You send a limit order for a specific price, it gets placed in a queue for that price level and when orders ahead of your order are all filled, you'll get your fill. Size gets no priority (unlike say some STIR products which are price/size priority books). So to answer your question - assuming both orders are at the same price, the order that arrived to the exchange first will get filled first. 3. In most cases the contingent orders (OCO, LIT/MIT etc) are held on the broker side so you might experience bizarre effects like the ones you describe.

Here's my problem with anything lithium related (as a holder of LIT from 48-42). We look at all of these unstoppable mega trends like EV batteries and utility and residential scale battery storage. Both are experiencing high growth rates, notwithstanding the press around "no one likes EVs anymore" (I think the EV growth rate in the US declined from 60 to 45 percent in 2923. Oh no). Anyway, with all of this, anything Li related collapsed. This has been attributed to general Chinese economic demand (not even necessarily their EVs which are growing faster than the US). So if Lithium cannot prosper despite strong underlying demand in the end markets that everyone talks about, why is is bouncing back again? Are we working off inventory in the channel? Where is that now? And do you all track the spot price? Is that stabilizing?

Beyond the more specific reasons, the market works on expectations. Yeah, electric vehicles are booming and we'll need a lot more lithium in the future. But everyone knows that, right? The market is going to price LIT really high based on that expectation of big growth in the future. If things go exactly as predicted, then we'll see big earnings growth in LIT... but not price appreciation, because we were already paying high prices based on that future expected growth. So what actually determines the return on your investment is performance relative to those expectations, which in this case were really high. So when things are just slightly nonideal (even if the companies are still doing very well) you see the price drop. Investing in "the next big thing" tends to go poorly unless you can predict what the next big thing will be before that idea goes mainstream.

Asking same question after I posted 2 weeks ago with Chart analysis of [LIT Global X Lithium & Battery ETF](https://old.reddit.com/r/swingtrading/comments/18ywf3y/chart_analysis_global_x_lithium_battery_etf_lit/) Basically it's a "Over Supply" vs Demand problem... But I thought Support would hold for a bounce 2 weeks ago and, it went against me and I got Stopped out. But long-term still bullish on Lithium for sure! The ETF idea would be to spread Risk -VS- buying 1 stock such as ALB Albemarle.

LIT has equity shares of lithium commodity producers. The market price of lithium has declined significantly---this happens in commodities, big cycles. Equities of those companies are even more leveraged to the price than the spot because they have ongoing running costs. https://www.asiafinancial.com/spiralling-china-lithium-prices-hit-26-month-low-on-supply-glut Someday there will be a shortage again. Money is serious. $10,000 is already huge... I'm afraid you might arrive after the end of the party. However, there are still some potentials: PFE BMY MRK or the ETF Lithium LIT. The ETF PALL Palladium has finally experienced a magnificent rebound (buy the dip?). Good luck. China's FXI and KWEB, as well as BABA and JD, could also be interesting choices. Do not invest your money in a company with a market capitalization below $20 billion or even $30 billion. Below that, it's pure gambling. Lithium has a great future... in the future. 2024 shows no signs of being especially good for lithium. Take the tax loss, then consider LITP as an ETF rather than LIT because LITP is a pureplay lithium ETF while LIT has TSLA/LCID and other only slightly lithium stocks.

Invested in the LIT ETF and GNENF in early 22', They are both down significantly and I'll have some significant capital gains this year and have the opportunity to do some tax loss harvesting if I get out of LIT and GNENF. I'll have some sizeable capital gains for this tax year and in my portfolio I have some positions not doing too well due to some mistakes and learning I've been through. Looking at possibly offloading these positions and take advantaged of some tax loss harvesting to offset the gains. The positions are: PYPL, ETSY, LIT, GNENF, UPST, TQQQ. Bought these at the end of 21' or beginning of 22' so they are down pretty significantly. Some near 60%. I got greedy and trying to play the market ups and downs for some quick gains. I learned and will never do this again.. We learn as we go..... Anyhow, thoughts on if any of these might recover to their 21' highs over the next couple of years? I'm of the opinion that they won't and I should offload them before the end of the year. Also one more question, where can one find the trends of the market for specific time frames? I'm wondering what the market trend is for the week between Christmas and New Year?
