Interesting you’re getting downvoted. It’s not guaranteed but it is a completely valid point. Now, as an individual investor I would not buy Tesla stock straight up due to the risk profile. I purchased VCR for some good exposure and there are other ways to get heavy in TSLA without buying the stock

I've worked in search marketing for almost 20 years. Google is not going away. It will evolve. ChatGPT is an app with a front end, and a backend. That's what Google's standalone search app is. Google is planning to update the Google search app that we all know very well (and it's desktop web version as well) into a new interface that searches the web for information and returns answers instead of blue links. There is no company on Planet Earth that has crawled and injested more information than Google. The entire internet (Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager are installed on just about every website), maps (Google Maps), videos (YouTube), a huge chunk of email traffic (ubiquitous GMail), Google images and plenty more information. Google Android is the OS for 78% of smartphones in America and tracks every action directly on phones. Google Chrome is the most used browser and knows everything we do on our desktops, laptops and mobile web because everyone logs into Chrome. Google Nest. Google Play. Google Music. Google Shopping. YouTube for crying out loud which is the world's #2 search engine. Google knows everything and everyone up to the milisecond and has 2 decades of practice storing that data, cataloging that data and acting on that data to build the largest advertising business ever created. Google has the best software engineers on Earth, infinite R&D capital, ubiquitous distribution on every digital device ALREADY. And Google has created the ultimate marketing platform used by ad agencies and corporate marketers and local businesses globally. It is the STANDARD for ease of use, and the reason Google is the very first dollar every company large and small spends in marketing. Google will engineer paid search to be embedded into AI results and will do it in a way that the consumer will appreciate. Google Ads will be rebooted to feel much more like the Gemini AI interface to the consumer with the back end ad buying platform similar to the way buyers have used it for decades. ChatGPT doesn't have a chance against Google and Gemini. ChatGPT is MySpace or a Betamax VCR. Fast start but will pull up lame. I think OpenAI will become the backbone AI built into devices and white-labeled but this will be about as much of a contest as Google vs. Bing in about a year. Watch the Google I/O conference video and you'll see how Google evolves its search product to modernize the workflow everyone is already used to, with the whiz-bang of Gemini intelligence and follow-up questions to find what you need. Just watch. I've already noticed a lack of updates to the current Google Ads platform. I think Google has pulled all of its engineers and product people over to the new Google Ads platform. They are getting it ready to annihilate all these Perplexity, Claude also-rans, stealing the best of each, the same way Meta has ground Snap, FourSquare and Twitter into the dust. Capital, technology, existing infrastructure, consumer habits and platform distribution wins. ChatGPT will soon be a toy compared to what Google brings to the table.

It was just one example. It has happened countless times. In economics it is called the lump of labor myth. The idea that there are a fixed number of jobs. You can't predict the new jobs that will be created but they exist because things get cheaper. It opens up new roles like being involved in the movie industry (and millions of other new jobs). There are plenty of areas the world should be addressing but are not. We can't afford enough doctors, teachers, even to keep our streets/ environment clean or look after the elderly. Here are a bunch of jobs that no longer exist and yet we have seen record-low unemployment: 1. Switchboard Operator 2. Elevator Operator 3. Bowling Pin Setter 4. Lamplighter 5. Ice Cutter 6. Typist 7. Film Projectionist 8. Railroad Fireman 9. Milkman 10. Copy Boy 11. Telegraph Operator 12. Coal Delivery Worker 13. Log Driver 14. Travel Agent (mass market) 15. VCR Repair Technician 16. Human Alarm Clock (knocker-upper) 17. Mimeograph Operator 18. Switchboard Installer 19. Soda Jerk 20. Cigar Roller 21. Linotype Operator 22. Street Photographer 23. Shoe Shiner (urban profession) 24. Newspaper Typesetter 25. Book Peddler 26. Factory Loom Operator 27. Punch Card Operator 28. Video Store Clerk 29. Radio Drama Actor 30. Door-to-Door Encyclopedia Salesman 31. Horse-Drawn Carriage Driver (urban transport) 32. Telegraph Messenger 33. Ice Deliveryman 34. Rag-and-Bone Man 35. Coal Miner (in many countries) 36. Toll Booth Collector 37. Projection Slide Operator 38. Letterpress Printer 39. Switchman (railroad yard) 40. Manual Gas Station Attendant (full service only) Also I will point out that on most companies the working age population is shrinking. We are running lower on workers every year. This doesn't mean there may not be short-term difficulties as the workforce transitions and you have a percentage of the population that part of "Structured unemployment" ie find it hard to retrain for a new role. https://www.stlouisfed.org/open-vault/2021/january/refuting-lump-labor-fallacy-two-lessons

>how did the UK deal with it's loss of status, power, and influence? The UK lost its power due to WWI and WWII. It's a very different game from the US, where we were on top of the world in January of 2025 and then some fat moron decided to burn it all down because he had to pay too much for a Japanese VCR in 1990.

Yes - BUT. I have 4 accounts. My 2 largest accounts I don't touch (except once to rebalance over a decade) and are ETFs only. In the other 2 I have a basic core that I keep and don't sell unless they are obviously going bankrupt or something which is unlikely. Right now that's AMZN, NVDA, WMT, ABBV, GOOG and LB in larger positions. I try to have a mix but those consumer stocks and VCR are doing great right now. Lots of tech exposure already in the 2 big untouchable accts.

I have *most* of my money in ETFs and got lucky with the Vanguard Technology ETF over the past several years. Since I'm old I diversified into bonds and added a small cap ETF recently because small caps have underperformed over the past several years. It's time for that pendalum to swing. That's my 403B. I have a ROTH with core positions in VCR, VOOG, Amazon, Walmart, ABBV and added BABA last month. (I just love BABA and always have, I had to cut it loose when it fell a couple years ago). I also have a *fun* account I trade options in with core positions in VGT and NVDA. My highest convictions right now are HIMS and NBIS. I also like ZBRA and have been waiting for it to fall, which it just did. We'll see where things go. HIMS earnings is this week so it'll run up, but who knows after. Personally I think it's a gold mine and will blow out earnings and run further up, but I have been wrong before. TEM looks really good also but it's volatile so if I decide to jump back in I'm waiting for a bad market day. Those AI health care stocks seem to be doing well. I like to buy LEAPS with options in my fun acct. This gives me a lot of time to become profitable, but I don't necessarily keep until close to expiry. I only play around (options) with about 40k or so. I will never make a million in a week like some on here, but I won't lose a million either. I have fun and keep my losses minimal. I have a deal with myself that when I turn a nice profit (up 50%) I sell a few of whatever stock or option that is and buy more VCR, VGT or VOOG. I don't ever sell the ETFs or core positions in Amazon, Walmart, ABBV, NVDA and now hopefully BABA as long as it continues to show strength. If I need funds I have to sell another stock or add money. IMO, putting a % of my winner stocks into the ETFs and NOT SELLING THE CORE POSITION STOCKS are the keys to success.

I knew saving those VCR machines was smart.

I lost €1300 yesterday on TSLA puts and the most annoying thing about it was that I had the direction right but was too OTM. What’s worse is that the final dip at the end of day brought me back to $.50 a contract and a loss of less than €500. So I thought. I closed the trades and was feeling a bit better about things until I noticed that my PnL was still -€1366, lower than it had been all day. Well those cucks at IBKR marked my positions liquidated at $.20 instead of $.50. I wish there was an alternative in Europe. It’s like trading with a Russian VCR.

I recently bet on the lagging utility sector (VPU, XLU), and it seems to be working out nicely. And if you want to be aggressive, there's QQQ (or VGT). It is a progression that has been happening for the past forty years. In the 80's, the VCR came out. Now you can watch a movie at home instead of going to the theater. Then DVDs came out offering a better picture and sound than VHS tapes. Next can Blu-ray that offered even better picture and sound. Streaming services lead to the end of Blockbuster and eventually Redbox. Theaters were doomed with the advent of high definition home theater systems and people building Theater rooms in their house. You can have a large screen TV/Projector with Surround Sound in your own home and watch a movie on your couch in your PJs. A family of four costs the same as a single person watching the movie. You can pause the movie whenever you want and eat popcorn and soft drinks for a fraction of the cost in a theater. Thanks to Covid, Streaming services are even offering "Movies on Demand" in which you can watch movies at home that are playing at the theaters.

Due Diligence: PyroGenesis Canada Inc. (TSX: PYR, OTCQX: PYRGF) Hey everyone, I wanted to share some recent updates on PyroGenesis Canada Inc. (PYR), a high-tech company focused on advanced plasma processes and sustainable solutions. These updates are based on responses from the company’s recent annual general meeting and several recent news releases. There are some exciting developments worth noting that could signal a bullish trend for the stock. Key Highlights: 1. Titanium Metal Powder Project: • Status: The project is progressing well, with ongoing production and delivery of titanium powder. This dismisses earlier concerns about potential cancellation. • Second Order: PyroGenesis received a second order from a leading Spanish aerospace client for its high-quality titanium metal powder, suitable for advanced additive manufacturing methods. The client indicated the potential for a long-term contract following the successful completion of this order, showcasing the growing demand and confidence in PyroGenesis’ products. 2. Plasma Resource Recovery System (PRRS): • Initial Value: Initially valued at $25-30 million. • Current Negotiations: The project has expanded significantly and is now being negotiated for a total contract value between $115-160 million. This major increase could greatly enhance the company’s revenue stream. 3. Name Change: • Status: The company is in the final stages of a name change, signaling a rebranding effort that might attract new investors and increase market visibility. 4. SPARC™ Waste Destruction System: • Status: The project for the New Zealand client is progressing well, despite a delay in delivery to early 2025 due to construction delays. This aligns with New Zealand’s aggressive GHG reduction targets. 5. Plasma Torch Advancement: • Negotiations: Ongoing negotiations with a North American entity for a high-power plasma torch system, with a potential contract value of $15-25 million. This showcases the company’s technological advancements and market demand for its innovative solutions. 6. Pyro Green-Gas Developments: • Recent Contracts: Signed contracts totaling $2.5 million for the delivery of a thermal swing adsorption (TSA) system for the $1 billion Varennes Carbon Recycling (VCR) plant. This project, supported by major corporate partners and government backing, aims to convert up to 200,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste and residual biomass into biofuels and chemicals, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. • Additional Negotiations: Negotiating a $2 million contract with a biogas production entity. This adds to the $4 million in new projects already signed this year, highlighting the subsidiary’s growth potential. 7. PozPyro Cement Additive Project: • Lab Results: On May 2, 2024, PyroGenesis announced that its PozPyro green cement additive achieved remarkable results in 28-day lab strength tests, surpassing the compressive strength target by up to 99.56%. This development positions PozPyro as a strong replacement for fly ash in cement, offering significant environmental benefits by reducing CO2 emissions during production. • Market Potential: The North American cement market is projected to reach 279.8 million tons by 2032, presenting a substantial market opportunity for PozPyro. The client is raising funds for a pilot plant, indicating strong future potential for this product. 8. Major Partnership with Global Aluminum Producer: • Contract Value: PyroGenesis announced a multi-year contract valued at approximately $50 million with a leading global aluminum producer. This agreement involves the deployment of PyroGenesis’ patented plasma torch technology to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve energy efficiency in aluminum production. Why This Matters: • Significant Contract Increases: The substantial increase in the PRRS project value and ongoing negotiations for other high-value contracts reflect growing confidence in PyroGenesis’ capabilities. • Technological Advancements: The company’s progress in plasma torch technology and waste destruction systems demonstrates its competitive edge and potential for market disruption. • Strategic Growth: The rebranding effort and expansion of Pyro Green-Gas projects indicate strategic moves to capture more market share and enhance investor appeal. • Major Partnerships: The new $50 million contract with a global aluminum producer and the $2.5 million contracts for the VCR project underscore the commercial viability and industry trust in PyroGenesis’ technologies. • Growing Aerospace Presence: The second order from a Spanish aerospace client and the potential for long-term contracts highlight the company’s expanding footprint in the high-demand aerospace sector. • Sustainable Innovations: The exceptional performance of the PozPyro green cement additive in lab tests highlights PyroGenesis’ commitment to sustainable innovations that have the potential to revolutionize the cement industry. Bullish Outlook: Given these positive developments, PyroGenesis appears to be on a solid path to growth. The company’s technological innovations, increased contract values, and strategic initiatives suggest a strong potential for the stock to regain its previous high of $11. This could be the beginning of an upward trend, making now a potentially great time to consider PYR for your portfolio. Disclaimer: This is not financial advice. Please do your own research and consider your own investment goals before making any decisions. Feel free to discuss and share your thoughts!

You usually want multiple Pharma stocks to get and for the next blockbuster drug in your portfolio. Pfizer doesn’t have a GLP1. It’s facing the dreaded patent cliff as well. It’s got a good dividend but I’d rather own all the big pharmaceutical companies the just PFE. Add SCHD to your watch list, it screens for quality and has PFE and Pepsi in it.

If you invest in an individual company, that company belongs to a market sector. Market sectors have indexes. Also the market as a whole has an index. These can be used as benchmarks. For instance [Amazon](https://www.morningstar.com/stocks/xnas/amzn/quote) belongs to the "Consumer Cyclical" sector. This can be related to an index such as [VCR](https://www.morningstar.com/etfs/arcx/vcr/quote) . Amazon happens to be a member of this index, but that's not necessary for the benchmarking. But if we look at the historical performances the 1 year return of the VCR index is about 23.5% and Amazon is about 78%. So with VCR as a benchmark, Amazon is out performing. If you wanted to benchmark Amazon against something like the S&P 500 or a total market index, you'd find a relevant ETF that tracks it, and then find it's historical yields for comparison against Amazon.

This sounds like the same globalist free market logic we’ve used for decades. “But prices will rise and that will make it harder for…” OR- prices will rise, making it possible for domestic steel manufacturers to make more money, leading to expansion of domestic steel production, a more robust steel industry, and shorter supply chains. Prices will rise on manufactured goods, too. So what? How many washing machines do people buy in their life? This is all inflationary, people will say. This is probably true. I’ll take some inflation along with more supply chain links located here. A steel mill is a massive part of a local economy, and generates its own mini-economy of thousands of people. This is the same “it’s better for everyone if everything is produced where it is cheapest” logic that got us into this goddamned mess to begin with. No, cheaper isn’t always better. My dad paid $1200 for our first VCR. Who cares? It was one VCR. And he worked for a company who sold American made tools to American workers. Why would I take a a $30 DVD player so my dad could have worked in unstable service work? Pass. I really don’t think higher steel prices will result in significantly higher food prices, higher home prices, or higher healthcare prices. You know, the things people really care about. Maybe it’s fine if my chair costs $150 instead of $120, if I have a job working in manufacturing with benefits.

Beginner Portfolio Check ? I'm a 24 year old making a decent salary ($100-110k/year). Going to list my current portfolio below. Curious mainly on the Vanguard ETFs and Capital Group American Funds on if those are the best long-term places to invest that money. I invested all a few years ago when I really had no idea about anything! Also, large chunk in HYSA as I was/am saving for a down payment but prob not for another 3 years. If anyone has a better short term idea on where to store that - I'm all ears. Currently getting 5% on HYSA thru Wealthfront. Finances:  In HYSA - $105,000 Investments  Roth IRA - maxed out this year  CD until Aug '24 - $11,500 401k - $7,800 - putting in $500/bi-weekly  Simple IRA (thru another employer) - $4,500 Charles Schwab - $21,500 Individual Stock Portfolio - $13,000 VONV - $220 VOO - $450 VCR - $2,500 Other ETFs - $5,680  Capital Group American Funds ($43,000)  Fundamental Investors - $13,000 Growth Fund of America - $14,500 Income Fund of America - $15,000

If you're trying to make a criticism that the old algorithm doesn't apply because it tracks prices of items irrelevant to modern day consumers, try again. Measuring the price of VCR's, floppy disks, and typewriters, might as well be the same as measuring the price of Blu-Ray's, HDD's, and mechanical keyboards. Of which, blu-rays and mechanical keyboards absolutely have shot up in price over the past decade, for the record. Oh. Wait. The modern algorithm doesn't track those, because the modern algorithm is designed to exclude *literally anything* that actually tracks with cost of living increases, so that the government can point and say "see we're doing good".

VOO is becoming more dominated by mega-cap tech. Going 100% VOO is an extremely aggressive move, and many investors ignore this risk to their peril. Balancing out a smaller position in VOO with less volatile sectors, like VDC (consumer staples), VCR (consumer discretionary), VDE (energy), and VFH (financials) will result in a safer, more stable portfolio that will not crash if the megacap techs come back to earth.

The mention of empires built within Google reminds me of the demise of RCA. They had the tech to put out video disk players as far back as the early 1950s. However, due to misguided leadership, internal political squabbles, and feuds between departments, the tech was fumbled over and over until they finally released it... just in time to compete with the VCR. The company that was the face of consumer technology faded out of existence.  Google though has built themselves as a service company. There are processes and infrastructure that rely heavily on their servers, software, and integration, not to mention that every one of their users is an additional product to be sold (data). I don't think Google could go the way of RCA, though they might go the way of IBM, identifying their most profitable activities and paring away everything else, becoming less of a household name and more of the infrastructure behind everything.

Personally, I always recommend "The Millionaire Next Door". I find that most people struggle today with things like conspicuous consumption (keepin' up with the Jones's). They move out of their well-to-do parent's house and they think they have to continue to maintain their standard of living, which is absolutely ridiculous. Just like young folks today, 25 years ago wasn't any easier, contrary to what everyone will tell you. To be honest, individuals in their 20s have struggled in basically every single generation. It's just how it works. It isn't until you establish yourself, do things start to fall into place. But people in their 20s today, think they are entitled to everything they were receiving from their parents before they moved out. They still think they need their Starbucks, or their brand new Iphone. Their new wardrobe, and their Smartwatch. I didn't have brand-new anything when I moved out, and I couldn't afford new if I wanted to. Even my parents (boomers) struggled in their early years. It's completely normal. I didn't have shit when I moved out. My TV/VCR combo sat on an entertainment system made of cinder blocks and 2x4s. I couldn't afford cable, so I had to get my TV through the air (antenna). I ate ramen noodles and hot dogs for about 3 years straight. Any young person who claims I had it easier 25 years ago can literally go fuck themselves. The key to building wealth is to live well below your means and invest the difference. You can't build wealth if you live paycheck to paycheck. Often young people who come up to me and ask how I did all this on a modest income with a high school education. I find it amusing that this 23 year old is leasing a $70,000 truck while I'm still driving a 2014 Mirage Hatchback I bought new for $12,000. They get the newest most expensive phone every year while I use my modestly priced phones for several years. They wear clothes that are newer than mine, and even their midtown apartment has more square footage than my entire home. I'm almost 45 years old, and 20-year olds are trying to live more lavish lifestyles than I am today (and I'm the fucking millionaire!!), and they wonder why they can't make ends meet. You can't claim you're "scrapin' the bottom of the barrel" when you are driving a 2 year old Camry and hanging out at the club every other weekend. I could only go out with friends maybe a few times a year when I was their age. So, I know it's the ol' cliche avocado toast argument, but seriously, people today think your 20s should be a cakewalk. They are wrong, it isn't supposed to be easy. But, anywho, I'm ranting now, so I'll digress. You have to change your mindset. You have to differentiate between a "want" and an actual "need". You have to realize, you are not supposed to maintain the lifestyle you did in high school when you move out on your own. The book I'm recommending will help you change your mindset. That has to be done first and foremost before you do any kind of investing. If I can throw on a faded t-shirt I've worn since high school, you can do the same. It's just a shirt dude, and no one really cares what it used to say. So, that's the book I recommend to individuals that I mentor. The numbers in the book are slightly dated, but the concepts are still mind-numbingly accurate in today's economy. If you looked at me and my lifestyle you would have no clue I was a millionaire. I just look like your average dude living your average lifestyle. And that's literally the point of the book. Most millionaires you'll ever meet are just average dudes living average lives. You've probably met dozens of millionaires and just didn't know it. Perhaps even the guy right next door to you is a millionaire. After all, believe it or not, most millionaires don't lease $70,000 trucks. The Millionaire Next Door. It's an easy read and literally a road map to how I did it.

My Roth is just Etf's VGT = 80% and VGR and VCR the remaining 20%. Around late 2023 I added a few shares of AMZN and META in it. My personal investment account is the one with my own portfolio of select stocks. My advice for someone new is to just go with ETFs or Target-date funds. I am strongly against picking your own stocks if you are not well-versed and or interested in reading a companies earnings report, future growth etc. Also you need to have strong temperament once you start picking your stocks - this one is learned after years of experience and going through multiple market downturns. In my case I started with just ETFs, contributing to it regularly and kept on reading and listening on how to pick stocks and value a company as years went on.. I did not start picking my own stocks until about 2 to 3 years from the time i started to study about it. And once you get to the point you are comfortable to pick your own stocks, stick with what you know well and with solid wide-moat companies. This sub-reddit helped me get better informed too. No coincidence i got better once i became active in here and just absorbing knowledge from others.

George Carlin - We like war! We're a war-like people! We like war because we're good at it! You know why we're good at it? Cause we get a lot of practice. This country's only 200 years old and already, we've had 10 major wars. We average a major war every 20 years in this country so we're good at it! And it's a good thing we are; we're not very good at anything else anymore! Huh? Can't build a decent car, can't make a TV set or a VCR worth a fuck, got no steel industry left, can't educate our young people, can't get health care to our old people, but we can bomb the shit out of your country all right! Huh? Especially if your country is full of brown people; oh we like that don't we? That's our hobby! That's our new job in the world: bombing brown people. Iraq, Panama, Grenada, Libya, you got some brown people in your country, tell them to watch the fuck out or we'll goddamn bomb them! Well when's the last white people you can remember that we bombed? Can you remember the last white--- can you remember ANY white people we've ever bombed? The Germans, those are the only ones and that's only because they were trying to cut in on our action. They wanted to dominate the world! BULLSHIT! THAT'S OUR FUCKING JOB!
