I'm not acting like it isn't useful. There are a great many things that would be useful to law enforcement that we simply do not allow. I'm sure convictions would be easier if we allowed police to beat confessions out of people, or throw them in a cell until they confessed. Expedience of a method is not a valid point of support. Similarly unconstitutional not only existed and were enforced for very long periods of time some have even been upheld by SCOTUS. Frankly I feel like I'm on firmer ground arguing that CAF is unconstitutional than arguing segregation was unconstitutional. International existence of a law, or the length of time a law has been on the books are not considerations when judging the validity of a law when the question of it's constitutionality is concerned. Court case precedence is usually taken into consideration by judges, but even at that they must keep in mind that courts have gotten it wrong before. Consider the "Civil" part of CAF and what that means, specifically a lower bar of proof. The amendments themselves state life, liberty and property in equal context, there is nothing to indicate that it's okay to handle one of the three differently when it comes to the burden of proof. If you wouldn't allow the government to imprison or execute someone with the same reduced burden of proof then property confiscation should not be allowed under the same. "Probably a criminal." isn't good enough. Any amount of money held on one person in and of it's self should not be seen as probable cause or evidence of criminal activity. Part of the reason why is it's completely subjective. Jeff Bezos and I probably have very different ideas as to what constitutes a large amount of money, or an absurd amount to carry on one's person. Notably CAF laws are set fixed amounts and not indexed for inflation. I believe the triggering amount at the federal level today is just shy of 10k. When these laws were put into place the amounts set were based on notions like 10k being more than anyone could possible need to carry for legal reasons, today you could easily have double that on your person to pay cash for a used car. Indexing for inflation might make it more palatable, but the fundamental issue of what constitutes an absurd amount of money to carry around on one's person is very subjective. Then you consider the absolute absurdity of it all in a world with crypto. I've thought nothing of jumping on an airplane taking a crypto wallet with me that held amounts that would certainly get me cavity searched were it in paper bills. Frankly it's more likely that crypto will make CAF laws a mute point before they are ever judged unconstitutional or repealed.
