From what i know is binance is supporting a lot in this country CZ also came to VN last year to meet with the vietnamese blockchain association and the government They are saying that some universities are introducing and investing into new fields like Fintech, blockchain, crypto, etc they want to recruit ppl who are working in the field and willing to go longterm with the universities, Vietnams citizen fear that AI will replace many and they want to prepare for future global trends as well

The Thai king has had plenty of time to try sort it out. Meth has been flooding into North West Thailand from Burma for a long time & all the NW police checkpoints have long kept an eye for Burmese. Sadly, he was mostly too busy cavorting with prostitutes & driving his sports cars around Germany to care all too much and just allowed it to fester and propogate. Outside of Tay Ho and HCM D1 it always felt like there was a special bond of mutual learning, growing and understanding that came from Vietnams welcoming of foreigners. Personally, I can say that I've always felt as ingratiated & accepted as parts of communities there as much as any foreigner without a good grasp of tieng Viet could hope to do so. This felt unique in Viet Nam compared to other ASEAN nations. Maybe its the post USA war healing. Whatever it is, it certainly felt that VN had developed a pretty good balance between Capitalist economic policy and Socialist social policy. That's interesting. I never considered the gambling aspect of it could be a reason for the popularity. I agree with you that there is still a large majority that aren't into it and it's still a long way from mainstream. But there are still a lot of people interested in it and talking about it, outside of gambling interest. Coin 98 is VN and they have a really active blog discussing new coins. Local coffee shops having meetings for crypto enthusiasts. I just went to one of these meetings and there was around 30 people there, mostly locals who were incredibly knowledgeable. So I'd say it is progressing away from just a gambling loophole. Anyway, nice to meet you :)

Even the 500 bill is pretty irrelevant. Maybe it was bc I was an expat, but I lived in VN 4 yrs and rarely got a 500 bill change. Usually just rounded down. VN people are def big on BTC and TONS of hydroelectric dams. But...you're right about the gov't not wanting a decentralized currency. Prob not in their best interests.

Poorer countries should definitely become more crypto friendly. Apes will throw money into scam/ponzi/shitcoin and foreign exchanges whether it is legal or not. If they create their own exchange, it'll prevent more capital outflow, as well as prevent people from getting scammed. For reference, a few months ago some celebrities in VN recommended their fans to buy Doge, ShibaInu, Safemoon, etc on some shady exchange. It rugpulled recently.
