BEP is a partnership so you'd end up with a K-1 every year you owned it, even if for a day. You'd want BEPC (C Corp) instead. I own a small position in Cameco. I’m only a couple of years from retirement, so building my income stream. I’m loading up on midstream, with the weakness driven by lower oil prices. EPD/ET are my favorites, and yielding between 7-8% BDC Armageddon - hard to predict the bottom, but best of breed in this sector is in sale with the riskier companies. I recently bought a decent position in KBDC. I like ARCC at current price, although hoping it goes lower and keeping some spare change REITS. Decent value, I’ve been adding ARE in the $70’s. I was adding Brookfield BIP/BEP, but now waiting for them to drop 5% or so. Growth is unaffordable. I have nibbled on AMZN. Have been opportunistically selling weekly covered calls on my position. Hoping NVDA disappoints on earning. That will open up a lot of opportunity, but a gamble. It could easily beat and raise. I certainly would not short GLTA

Brookfield always fascinates me. The fact they're able to make so much money off their garbage spinoffs has baffled me for ages now. BEP, BIP, the now defunct real estate arm and the newest con, BAM.  I've watched these pretty much scams it runs for a decade or so now and it's really made me realize, yes the average investor is actually that dumb. So it's helped me not jump on bearish thesis too quick.

I'm not worried... the supports are clear, keep active sell stoploss close to my BEP and subsequently buy more I trust more in the European market and its expansion than in the current decision since although it is very important it is no longer carrying out trials, it is now commercializing The money I invest in this type of company are percentages of profits.

I see this as a resurgence in nuclear energy building and distribution globally, maybe the beginning of a long 10-20 year trend. Cameco, Constellation Energy, and Rolls Royce (builds some of the equipment) are some of the obvious plays. Oklo is more speculative. You can buy shares in Kazatomprom though this is pretty weird it's a Kazakhstan state sponsored company. I wish Westinghouse were public but it's owned by BEP and CCJ so you only get indirect exposure. Some private companies like TerraPower might use this to go public.

With the Witkoff Putin meeting and all the settlement rumors floating around including no NATO for Ukraine mutual security guarantees and whispers of Nord Stream 2 quietly coming back into play it is clear geopolitics is starting to bleed into the energy sector again. But let us be real Russia has no reason to budge. They are holding ground the front lines have stabilized in their favor and every passing month weakens Western unity and drains Ukraine’s resources. Sanctions did not collapse their economy. They rerouted through BRICS and Asia and adapted. Europe is struggling the US is distracted by elections and NATO is not looking as solid as it once did. A frozen conflict gives Russia leverage indefinitely. Settling would mean giving that up for what promises. Even if the West wants a deal Zelensky cannot give Russia what it wants without political suicide. Putin is playing a long game. He wants more than a ceasefire. He wants a fractured Europe weakened NATO and permanent influence. Until those goals are met or seriously threatened they are not moving. And let us be honest if this so called settlement were real you would not be seeing Trump slap weak new tariffs on India out of nowhere. That is not the move you make if a major realignment is being locked in behind closed doors. It looks more like distraction politics and economic scrambling than strategic confidence. So yes I am watching energy plays especially anything tied to uranium LNG and infrastructure like BBU or BEP but I am not buying the peace talk hype just yet.

I've been browsing alternative energy companies for a while and how exactly does BEP work and why would anyone invest in it?  From what I gather they're leveraging depreciating assets to buy more depreciating assets while selling bonds to fund their day to day operations and plan on never turning a profit? Just thought it was kind of an odd business and I do question Brookfields books a bit.

You might want to look into BEP (Brookfield Renewable Partners) LP as well. They own 51% of Westinghouse. If you believe in that sector, both are probably solid plays. I do like the Westinghouse angle your working towards as they will play a key role in this nuclear renaissance we are seeing.

The BEP and US Mint are the only two entities which can *literally* *print* currency. That's not really what we're talking about though. I could have been more clear and said "that they can inflate" instead of using the word print. In the end, Congress holds the power, and can defunct the entire Federal Reserve if they choose.

The BEP and US Mint are under no obligation to fulfill the orders in whole or in part. The Federal Reserve, additionally, can only acquire enough new currency to fulfill orders from member banks. These responsibilities are intentionally separated in order to maintain proper checks and the integrity of the system. However, this means that the US can't just issue new currency to pay off the debt.

UNH isn't a defensive growth stock it's now a turnaround story. Scandals in leadership, dirty business, Medicare fraud, etc. I worry that INTC is dead money and there are so many other ways to invest in semiconductors and the AI trend. I personally would not invest in NVDA but there are other chip companies, ASML, etc. Don't forget that semiconductors have historically been a very cyclical and boom-or-bust business. I think this is a hard place to invest in with a "set it and forget it" investment. I think tech stocks are hard to pick for these reasons so I invest in QQQ. If I had to pick a few tech stocks I'd pick AMZN just because it is not constrained by any one industry or product, GOOG because I think it is the cheapest of all tech stocks. Uber will be affected by robotaxis and it isn't clear to me that they'll be a leader in that. For renewable power I prefer to invest in the renewable power generators themselves like BEP.

Sharing my experience: In 2020/21 I lost near 20 gran due to fear - sold my ETFs below my buying price. It was an expensive degree. I manage to win it all back (BEP) in early 2025 and have 12 gran+ and counting to date Sounds crazy to say that I have healthy stress and unhealthy stress. We are all individuals and we all have our own unique lifestyle and stress level in both. I have unhealthy stress and fear in buy & hold compared to daytrading like what u/Thoughtful_Tortoise is doing. I'd say once you know what you are doing you will always make big bucks. I have healthy stress and love the fun I get from daytrading. You lose only when you sell below your buying price. BUT hey! sometimes I sell on purpose below buying price ( lose a little) to get back free funds in order to purchase other ETFs which delivers more bucks (simple business). I do so ONLY when I notice and see ups and downs of ETFs which I monitor in my favorite list. Don't do what I do; do what you are comfortable and satisfied with. Playing the psychological greedy game can be dangerous. Stick to your strategy, consistency, decipline, principle, patience, and watch your mind and controle it (psychology).

What I said is, they went down like 25%, but now are now only down a few percent. They are close to my BEP, some are above. I'm thinking if I sell them now. I would lose nothing. And would avoid the risk of them losing the 25% or more in value again due to upcoming political moves. Sure even if I sell now and they do magically go up in the coming months (although I don't see how they would with what is in the pipelines right now). And I re-buy at higher that what I sold them at, then I haven't technically lost any money, I just wouldn't have made those profits. I'm fine with no taking that (big) gamble. Say right now, your best friend came to you and said he had 50K to invest. Are you saying you would recommend he invest in the stock market right now?

I maxed out my Roth for the year as well. I deployed much of my free cash on this sell-off. I‘m going to retire in 3-years, so I’m concentrating more on building my dividend revenue stream. looks like you'll be just fine, testicular cancer has one of the highest survival rates of all cancer types, at stage one it's over 99% so I wouldn't be too concerned, also If you feel nauseous on the Chemo, drink some ginger tea, ginger is an excellent nausea suppressant and has been shown to be effective in Chemo patients and you might want to freeze your sperm if you want kids as BEP is known to cause infertility

Hi guys, I'm 22 and have been investing since around 2021. I had a savings account of quite a bit of money which is basically all put into the sp500 and all world etf around a 65/35 split. Now I have gotten some inheritance money a while ago and was sitting on it kind of waiting for a drop to happen like that is happening now. I know I should just DCA but it was quite a lot and wanted to get in not a an ATH. I was up 53 percent a month or so ago, now I'm up 23 percent. I know timing the market is not ideal but I put the inheritance in an Amundi overnight Euro fund so I would get more interest than my bank. Now my question is should I just pull it out and buy in? I have been slowly putting in a bit and even bought in yesterday but I want to know if I should wait longer for this to stabilize or just buy in and maybe the market crashes some more and I can buy in. My BEP is 74 the peak was 111 l'm in Europe and invest with degrio. What should I do? The money I received is roughly 50 percent of my total investment so it's quite a bit relative to my current portfolio.

ITM is a play, OTM is gambling. I'll gladly pay up to get my breakeven price sub current strike, and to have a year or more to make and capture profits! Here's an example I bought today. Right now RGTI is at 12.17/, lets say 12 for easy (but slightly inaccurate) math..... I can buy; \#1..... a ITM 3/14/25 C12 for $192 which makes the BEP 13.92, or +1.92. or \#2.... a DITM 1/15/27 C2.5 for $1020 which makes the BEP 12.70, or +.70 I can't buy nearly as many contracts (can be a good thing in my mind) but I have two years (700 days) to realize a profit Vs a month (28 days). If it goes up a dollar a week (doesn't really matter, just a round number that is in essence feasible (see NVDA 23'/PLTR 24'))..... at Expiry they would be worth \#1 is worth.... $1/wk gain (4w) x 100 shares = $400 in gains - 192 premium ======$208 dollars potential gain, but over 24 months you could do it in theory 24 times over (208 x 24 = 4992). potential profit after 2 years = 5k potential loss of $192 Time to realize profit = 28 days VS \#2 is worth.... $1/wk gain (100w) x 100 shares = $10.000 in gains. Since the contract cost is $1020, but the difference in current share price and strike price is $1050 (12 - 2.5 x 100= intrinsic value) we can call the premium paid a wash. Potential profit after two years = 10K Potential loss of $1020 (but it has to drop $10.50 per share, and not show profit or recover in TWO YEARS for that to come to fruition) Time to realize profit = 700+ days I'll take #2 almost every time!!!! It's not like you have to hold until expiration, you can still sell on a spike in price for the same amount of profit with far less risk (read much higher win rate over time) and won't be a slave to Theta. That is how I think about and utilize options now. I have made plenty of dumb buys OTM to gain this knowledge! I even got burned on a RGTI $15 call (42 or 48 DTE) that was bought at $8/ and went to $20 only to crash back to $8 and OTM at Expiry..... 0---->$600----> expired worthless. Had I had more time or bought DITM I would have made money or exercised the contract and taken my shares at 1/3 of the price. Reducing your risks has a direct correlation to increasing your win rates and in turn gains. I don't suggest trying this though, someone has to lose for me to win ;/

If let's say ABC is trading at $200, you bought a monthly call 200C for $25 (monthly IV of 12.5%), then in order to be *ITM and profitable* you need it >225.01 on expiry. If ABC closes the month at 205, then your call is technically quite ITM, but not profitable. Most articles conflate the two concepts (ITM and profitable). Yet, because ITM the clearinghouse must exercise this, to balance out the books; because for every calls bought, there is a call sold, and shares to represent... Depending on BPR/Margin rules: - Broker may force you to close early, and you pay market value of about $5-6... (Depends on when tehy close there would be IV remaining). This represents $20 loss... (-$225BEP + $205 ending price = $20 loss). Or alternatively, you paid $25, but only $5 intrinsic value remains. You lose $20 (2000). - Broker may assign you $20,000 worth of ABC. This is complicated. In theory, ABC remains trading until 830PM... so 20,500 is not a static price like SPX at 4PM. If ABC shoots up the morning after to $21000, you only lose $1500. Because you would sell market price, but your cost basis is $22500 (Price assignment + Premium paid). However, also note assignment is not visible right away. They typically notify around 00:00AM the next morning... You may not be able to do anything until the day after.

Yeah I've 40 shares rn at 158$ because I tried to trade a little bit this stock and already I sold 60 shares at 125, 135 and 180... I would have gain just +100% holding rn and not selling earlier but it's hard to time it. My initial BEP was 116$ now 158$ because I bought more... I also think the stock maybe be overvalued af rn, it sky rocketed too much since last Q3 earnings reports... I think it can drop hard in the next 2/12 and I've the same question than you lol. Been there down -80%, dumped 4, kept 4. From there one still dead, dumped 2 at break-even and one mooned so all in all that segment of port is like +20 now. Keeping dead one which is -99.5% as a reminder how smart I really am. That one survivor is now among best performers. Examine each one and if you are still convinced keep them. Look at it as you bought them today, set SL and TP targets even if only on your head. Personally wouldn't add to it if it doesn't lower BEP but maybe wait gor signs of recovery like idk few consecutive green weeks or months. Meanwhile buy something else kept separately if you want.

BN is the primary corporation that has various subsidiaries under its umbrella like BEP, BIPC, BBU, etc. BAM is one of those subsidies, a pure-play asset manager that was spun off from BN in 2022.

Thanks for posting this DD. Looking at BEPC's [Q2 results](https://bep.brookfield.com/sites/bep-brookfield-ir/files/Brookfield-BEP-IR-V2/2024/Q2/q2-2024-bep-press-release-updated.pdf), nuclear/Westinghouse revenues are described to fall under the "Distributed Energy & Storage" line item, which was $61 million out of $830 million total 2024 revenue at the time of the report. I wonder if anyone could shed some light on how much of an impact 5-10 AP1000 reactors would make to this line item? I'm not sure how Westinghouse's revenue on reactors shakes out. Do they simply sell the reactor and it's parts? Or do they also receive revenue from the construction labor in setting it up?

You need to be careful owning a partnership like BEP in a non-taxable account. If UBTI (Unrelated Business Taxable Income) reported on the K-1 is over a certain amount, you may need to pay taxes and file additional forms even for an IRA.

Good question. As folks mentioned, its a tax optimization thing and I don't know if it would even matter for most purposes. I'm doing BEPC. "Brookfield Renewable Partners L.P. Westinghouse is fully owned by Brookfield Renewable Partners (BEP). They are working on small modular reactors and have more experience than just about anyone in designing and building them and, more importantly, getting them approved.

Seems like you got lots of good advice. Historically, people would have recommend more dividend payers like Chevron, too, but oil and gas has an uncertain future 10-20 years out now. I was surprised people did not recommend more utilities though like Duke and NEE and BEP which pay dividends and are solid, needed industries.

I'm roughly in same position :). I think of them as my 'hard asset' (ie real estate and infra) allocation. And if I recall they are not super correlated to the S&P 500, which is an added bonus. The question I haven't been able to answer is that Brookfield has two more focused ETFs (BIP and BEP). The first is purely for infrastructure (toll roads, etc..), and the second is purely for renewable energy (hydro, solar nuclear), whereas BN covers all their investments including BIP and BEP, but also CRE and asset mgmt. BIP and BEP are even less correlated with the overall market, so I'm confused as to whether I should just own those two at 2.5% each instead of BN at 5%.

Must be nice to be able to take risks like that. When it says “size” is 2.5k, I take it that means 2.5k contracts, so 250,000 shares at $12 ($3,000,000) plus the $650,000 premium averages to about $14.60/share, so somewhere around there would be the BEP? With it sitting around $14.50 right now, I can see how this would be quite a gamble, for both the buyer and seller… more-so for the seller who could lose $3,650,000+.

ULTA drop looks priced in. Those puts are relatively expensive. The first OTM put is $16 per contracts. So need a ~5% drop tomorrow to get to BEP on that put. Versus the OP, who found a gem with a put that would go ITM past BEP on any downward move at all.

The stock is showing a price of $140.85 so you are OTM and under the 141 strike. Your personal breakeven would be $141.45 when including the debit premium you paid. Is your analysis that the stock will rise to or above your BEP today? It looks like the current price to close the option would be about .35 which would only be a .10 loss. However, this option only has an open interest of 22 so is a low liquidity and thinly traded, so you may have to sell for more than .35 to close and would be a slightly higher loss.

I think Brookfield stocks dont get the attention they deserve (BAM, BEP, etc). High dividend, stable cash flow, heavily invested in green energy.

You don’t have to be ITM to make profit. At expiration, yes. Or more specifically, be above your BEP. You can be ITM and below your BEP and still take a loss. But even OTM positions can make a gain on hard, sudden moves of the underlying, especially a few weeks out from expiration. I’ve been told “IV crush” and that IV was so low the next day, it suppressed the movement. I’m just trying to figure out if there was any other way to know the IV would bottom out. I’ve experienced IV before, but not so much that even 3 weeks out from expiration that a position not only failed to move on a 15% move in the right direction on the underlying, but actually went even further in the red. Also, never expected this position to be in the green on the move. But was hoping a 75% loss at the time might decrease to a 50% loss on the move. Plus I don’t think IV crush is the entirety of the answer. The position has gained back ~18% so far this morning on a much smaller move of the underlying (1.25% drop as I type), with IV lower today than yesterday. Yesterday, the position 100% didn’t move the delta per tick where today it is. Basically same IV, one day closer to expiration.

No, the breakeven point for the 902.5C is unknown to us, without knowing what time this trade occurred. This is cuz all we know is that the credit that OP paid is the delta/difference between buying the 900C and selling the 902.5C. The 900C leg could have cost $5 and the 902.5C leg could have cost $3, meaning the 902.5C would have a breakeven of $905.5. This doesn’t matter though, as long as the NVDA is above $902.5. Even if NVDA is at $904 (below his BEP of $905.5 in this example), he still makes back $1.50/share, vs not exercising/selling the contract at all, and losing the whole $3 premium. In OP’s case, NVDA closed above $902.5 but slid during AH trading to $901.25. As contract holders have until 5:30PM to exercise, they decided to not exercise as it would result in a loss, vs them just buying the shares straight.
