Well I've collected most of my life and I know what TCGs always fuck me (MTG and One Piece) so I'll maybe buy a collectors booster pack or two for a new MTG set and grab one BB for a new One Piece set or if I happen to catch a restock whatever I can get within the store's purchasing limit. Since I mainly do graded cards it's more about setting yourself up with singles that have a high chance to grade well which means good quality control, something the Pokemon Company with English releases knows fuck all about and the same with Hasbro to a lesser extent. Bandai Namco games pull 10s from PSA relatively easy due to good quality control and if something is especially good gambling on a Black Label from BGS is possible. I bought a cheap microscope meant for coin collectors on Amazon to check for scratches in the foil or dents in the edging I might miss by the standard eye test.

Not for nothing, y'all, but I made a killing of BGS when the economy was in the shitter during COVID. They make cheap shelf stable groceries and have off brand contracts as well. Today may be a hiccup, but if we slide hard and people are hurting, consumer defensive is always profitable.

BGS. Hear me out, since it is school, i imagine short term.  16% dividend for now suggests a minimum return of that. Any turn around has huge upside.  Dark pool shorts at 42% can't maintain forever it is pay to play.  If you get 16% div and it goes up to 5.50 that's 22% + 16% so you end up with a 38% return.  If you get the div and it stays flat, 16% return.  Cuts the div in half and drops 50 cents, like 5% return?  Div cut in half improving bottom line + 5.50 situation is a 30% return.  If it goes belly up...... you lose.

Meanwhile our wonderful state approved rate hikes for electricity: The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) approved electricity rate hikes for residential customers, with the increases set to take effect on June 1, 2025. The hikes, ranging from 17.23% to 20.20% depending on the utility and service area, are due to the results of the annual [Basic Generation Service (BGS) auction](https://www.google.com/search?cs=0&sca_esv=f35f7c11fd1fb00c&q=Basic+Generation+Service+%28BGS%29+auction&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwil5d_Nhu-MAxUGElkFHVGaFR4QxccNegQIBBAC&mstk=AUtExfBHG8s04_nltaELHyRMdmemMhV2KiXQuqpgP1wXo3gNv49-S9lFdZyL743p_5v-cbgInJAqh0rEbNKcK3JrAvesCLnxt1o4ZCPuFGI0X9XewGM0K7w6xFEKyw78_v5Y1MgsVqclkcR2apHtR04IikrxIh5bprZWKAFUiRzpqzIOID22uh5oA9fT3sJz_vxUe_DD&csui=3). This auction determines the cost of electricity for most New Jersey residents and some businesses.

Dude, pay your mortgage off. The savings on interest and principle will reduce your monthly financial obligations way more than investing in some risky high yield instrument will increase your cash flow. Especially in this turbulent market. I lost a lot of money since 22 on high yield dividend stocks.. BGS, LUMN, KSS... there were several others that rebounded nicely last year but the losses on those made the strategy a flop. You wouldn't want to watch all that $$ go down the drain if this recent dip was actually the beginning of a crash. If your home drops in value on paper, it doesn't matter as much, because it's physical value to you and your family hasn't changed. It still keeps you and your stuff warm and dry, and you own it outright.

It’s not that simple. Pope is an arrogant shit, but this strike is hurting BCA, BDS, and BGS. Managers and workers across all three segments are being furloughed which impacts work and slows productivity. People are quitting. BCA getting a government handout doesn’t help the permanent schedule slip and talent loss of the other business units. This is purely hubris from a Calhoun sycophant that believes the union will blink first.

Boeing isn’t just the commercial airplane side where the strikes are occurring. Boeing is three companies in a trench coat: BCA, BDS, and BGS. Of the three, BGS is the only one that is currently profitable. BDS just removed its CEO and still may be up for sale due its is significant losses over the last five years. Even if the strike resolves, Boeing has a long way to go to right the ship. If the E7 contract doesn’t work out BDS is unlikely to recover.

Thoughts on Boarshead puts, anyone. Their entire brand is high quality and nearly priced the same as "store brand". BGS is publicly traded, was down 33% in the past 6 months at one point, possibly from news of the single plant having issues. The company is basically all about brand image, so something like what's going on now may wipe out what little recovery had been made in their stock price. Down more than 80% from their all time high in 2016, the company may not exist much longer. Puts on BGS anyone.

In 2023 Canada produced 10.4 million gallons of maple syrup, and the Canadian Strategic Maple Syrup Reserve currently holds 10 million pounds out of the potential 133 million pounds. This equates to just under 1 million gallons. Pouring 5% of Canadians maple syrup down your throat would require you to consume \~570,000 gallons of Maple Syrup, a pretty sweet death if you ask me. If you meant only the syrup that hasn't been bottled and sold, it would be a paltry 45,450 gallons, which is still a pretty sweet death. I own 348 shares VFC and 526 shares of BGS. VFC has a little over $3 per share cash on hand. Dividend is safe and brands are too valuable. Plus it’s at over decade low levels. I’d be surprised to see it make new lows at all going forward. It’s at this level because the yield was cut and you can get 6 month CD’s around 5%. Money is just going elsewhere. Rookie cards tend to be more valuable while the player is active. BGS is equal or at least on par with PSA. Black label and arguably, their gem-mint 9.5, both supersede PSA 10. Cards in general boomed during the pandemic. Gaming and nonsport blew up much much more than sport. They all are trending down now and finding their new flatline like all other investment assets post inflation. Best of luck! Cards are definitely more fun than numbers on paper.

As someone who made a ton of money in sports cards from 2018-late to 2020, this is a terrible investment. The card he referenced was $400-$500 before a bunch of people came into buying sports cards thinking it's easy money in 2020. I bought a Topps Chrome Lebron James BGS 9 in January 2020 for $900 and sold it in July 2020 for $9,000. The time to make money was 2020. Prices are still inflated and will continue to drop. There is no additional value in Lebron James breaking the scoring record or going to the hall of fame, he's already regarded by everyone on the planet as at worst top 3 all-time player. If you're holding a card with a print run as high as the one referenced here long-term, thinking you're going to cash in, your'e really misguided.

This analysis is based on the option open interest. With that option open interest, it calculates portfolio-level greeks--notably Delta and Gamma. More importantly, once the portfolio level greeks are established, I can now simulate the change in greeks at different price points. From there, I can find the price levels where portfolio-level gamma is the highest, and the portfolio-level delta is close to 0. For some tickers, the underlying price reacts strongly off of delta neutral, gamma max, and sometimes both. It's the reaction off of these price levels in the past that is being used to drive trading signals. The plays and target entry prices given are calculated using a binomial option pricing model that reflect the expected size and duration of the reaction from gamma max or delta neutral. A lot of these plays are profitable by underlying moves in stock. The best plays benefit from the directional move as well as the increase in IV. # FAQ * These plays are mostly puts. Are you a gay bear? * No. It so happens that the companies have had some recent run-up which implies they are overextended. These trades are primarily some form of mean-reversion either toward or away from an important price level. * Are you entering all these plays? * No. There have been a dearth of plays in the WSB morning talks, and so I opened up my bag of tools slightly wider to point out more plays with a probable edge to help lead apes to more gain porn. Go through this curated list of plays, pick the ones you like based on whatever additional analysis you use, and get that gain porn.

With all due respect, I feel like people have been brainwashed into thinking this, and don't look at the #s. I am sure there is some company out there "overpaying" dividends but none of this is black and white. I am sure dividends will be back in fashion, especially now that the most popular/recommended tech stocks are for the most part down way harder than solid dividend paying ones. also feel like your argument, which is popular, sets up a false dichotomy - either do fabulous investment or throw money away. IMO giving away money is a good sign - I want a company making $$$. There are very few companies that pay too much dividends IMO, one being BGS foods.

So dividend stocks are not a real thing. Let me explain. A dividend is a forced pay out. You must take it. The stock prices reflect these dividends as you get closer to the payout. However, the price just goes down to reflect the pay out. Thus, all dividend stocks have the dividend baked into the stock price. It essentially makes the dividend pay out illusory. In fact because you're taking quarterly payouts you actually pay more in taxes year over year. You're better off buying into stable growth companies that do not pay a dividend. 1. The money goes into the company so the company can grow and be worth more. 2. You aren't taking the forced pay out each quarter, which means you save on taxes in long term. An argument can possibly me made for buying dividend stocks during a crash. BGS is a being company that pays a $1.95 dividend per year and their price dropped to under $10 during the 2020 crash. So anyone could have effectively picked up a roughly 20 percent return each year by buying then. However, that return is not a compound return. Idk. I don't buy dividend stocks. Money is best used in other places imo.

The biggest constraint around investing in collectibles isn't the ability to get great returns, its liquidity. My collectible portfolio has drastically outperformed my traditional equities on paper but suffers from significant transactional cost whenever I want to sell something. After a certain pricepoint (2-3k) cards are treated more like one-of-one oddities than another run of the mill copy. That's why you often see variations on prices for things like PSA 10s and BGS 9.5. My personal portfolio philosophy is generally conservative when it comes to stocks (index funds, blue chips) and fairly aggressive when it comes to collectibles (quick flips for high liquidity stuff or long-term holds for grail tier cards).

Has anyone ever looked at BGS? Food stock. Decent dividend. Low PE. Way undervalued. No volatility. Yet there is a 22% short interest. I have no idea why anyone would short this stock? There are so many better short opportunities out there. It baffles me. I don’t short stocks though, so I am clearly missing something. If someone who regularly shorts stocks has any insight as to what makes BGS so attractive to shorts, I would love the insight.

If any of the older / rookie cards look exceptional or just rare, your best bet is to get them graded (it's like $7 per card, so obviously wouldn't want to get entire collection graded, just the ones you see go for decent money) and then try to unload. It's basically all about what a card grades at nowadays (centering, how the cards cut, etc) via the top grading companies Beckett (BGS) or PSA. You can put a "mint" ungraded studly card up for auction and get like $10, but that same card, with a grade, could go for $1,000 (etc). And so even lower graded cards can fetch decent premium compared to ungraded if they're older cards / rare. Ungraded cards being put up for auction is essentially like throwing a deal of the week garage sale to collectors. They'll estimate potential grade from your pictures, buy from you, get graded, and profit big. Definitely weird the hobby stores didn't offer to buy from you though, they'll usually offer a crappy 25% or so off book value, but still offer something nonetheless.

Looking for small cap, little international exposure, with growth potential during a recession (double dip, anyone?). PENN & DLTR are my throw a dart picks. BGS and TWNK are my short squeeze picks, and TTCF is just a goddamn hail mary. What's yours?

Food security can go many directions: buying farmland - $FPI or $LAND, or Potash, or fertilizer - $SMG or $MNTK. Could also go with Vertical Farming. Or, there are always Food distributors (not grocery stores) such as $SPTN, $BGS, etc. Personally, not so worried about Food or water particularly am worried about clean water drying up. Water Desalination is where I am looking. There are lots of companies involved with this. Some even sell stock.

Good quarter. Solid profit on BDS and BGS. BCA improved greatly despite headwinds. They were confident on returning to profitability in 2022 in the call.

It's not just KR, it seems like the whole food/grocery sector is bulletproof right now: B & G Foods (BGS), SpartanNash (SPTN), Kellog (K).
