The "rare earth" elements are not actually rare; they just don't appear in rich ores like other metals. So rather than a few mines in good locations printing money, a rare earth mine can be in any of quite a lot of places, and its success depends on being able to dig and process an awful lot of earth, which in practice means ruthlessly cutting costs to the detriment of safety, environment, and labour conditions. This is why China is the world's main supplier of these elements. Given this, rare-earth miners don't seem like a very profitable investment, since if they're in a reliable jurisdiction, and cutting enough corners to compete with China on price, I'd expect them to sooner or later run into lawsuits over toxic spills or maimed workers or something. Ordinary base metals, or even energy (coal/oil/gas), look more attractive as miner plays. That said, PICK overall is probably fine, as it mostly is those rather than rare earth focused. (I'm actually wondering what to jump to after having ridden my silver miners up about 400% over the last couple of years. But I think their run isn't *quite* done yet.)

PPLT has been very good to me since 12/23, so exactly 1 month today. Playing it with Jan '27 Calls at about 80-delta, up over 70% so far. I like the theory of the miners doing well, but don't like individual stocks because of single-issue risk. I like the smoothing that ETFs give. There's not a pure mining ETF for platinum like there is for gold and silver, but AI told me about **PICK** and **PLTU**. PLTU is *way* too choppy, but PICK is nice. Nowhere near as nice as my current favorite **SLV**, but better than my more-normal benchmark ETF right now, **DXJ**. I didn't look into all their holdings, but **PLG** isn't in the top 10. Still, it's smooth enough and going up enough right now that it would be (and might become) a pick for my 3-ETF portfolios. Thanks for the tip!

I think of it as simply *buying shares with leverage.* Do you see the difference already? It's not *options* anymore, it's just *stocks*. It's really very liberating. Let me lay out the way I do it, which is modified some from Yuen, but I think he'd approve (because lots of things work with options, there's no *best*). 1) ***Pick a good underlying.*** That is SO important that I'll say it again: **PICK A GOOD UNDERLYING.** And it needs to be going up. Because remember, we're doing shares now, we're not doing "options stuff" against tickers. For me now, after decades of re-learning this lesson, that means **ETFs only**. 2) Go to the Call option chain that's just beyond 1 year. Find the Call at 80-delta (or *higher* if there isn't one at exactly 80). **Buy it**. *Notice*: did I say to look at theta or calculate B/E? No, just find the 80-delta Call and buy it. You're getting long the ETF, that's all. With shares do you worry about thetas and B/Es? 3) **Watch it.** Then *do something* when called for. How many of us have bought a great stock, ridden it to crazy heights, then rode it all the way back down? My hand is up. 4**a**) "Do something" when the ETF goes **down**. If it’s a taxable brokerage, I’d go with VTI/VXUS and a percent of SHY (if you want to preserve capital and if you’re worried about market crash, go with GOVT). If you like a little spice in your life, leave a small % so you can play around with certain stocks. For me, I put a few in ICLN and PICK to name a few. My best pick so far was VSTM where I would’ve made sooo much if I’d just put in a lot of money. But I’m not that adventurous. 😂 I would also DCA.

Which one would you rather go with? Which one has a higher probability of success? If you had to take the shares on assignment which one would you rather hold longer term, setup 1 or setup 2 stocks? This is why ROI is something new people chase because they think high IV = high premium = high ROI, while completely discounting the reason for the high premium and if it even makes sense to enter a trade at that time.
