Agree, long term gains(LTG) and short term gains (STG) are taxes differently but STG and STL (short term losses) are use to offset each other. Similarly, LTG are used to offset LTL (long term losses). While there are several crypto tax calculators out there, Crypto Tax Calculator had been my go-to for its user interface and ease of use. (Not investment advice and don’t get paid for shilling CTC btw).

Depending on how many txs you have and the complexity, I'd suggest either calculating things manually in a spreadsheet (time consuming but at least you are relying on yourself for the data input) or using an alternative tax software that you can rely on. I use CTC (crypto tax calculator) which handles my complex txs well You might also choose to work with a crypto CPA if you don't have time to do anything yourself (but can sometimes be a little pricey $$$). The truth is a lot of tax software only works well with CEX transactions because the data from CEXs tends to be relatively clean and easy to process. Once you do things on-chain (i.e., liquidity pools, staking, bridging, NFT mints, etc...), then things start to get messy. If you've just done simple transactions, use the cheapest software or do it yourself manually in a spreadsheet. If you've done complex on-chain stuff, you're going to want to use Crypto Tax Calculator. No tax software is perfect but CTC is best in class when it comes to handle on-chain activity imo.

I started using CryptoTaxCalculator last year and it's not bad once you get accustomed to it. Most of my crypto is either earnings from doing dev work or some trading stuff. Been working well for me. The other I was using, yeah, total garbage and dropped them like a bad after they said a coin that I made and know the trade value of was worth like billions. The one they confused it with is on a totally different chain for god sake. lol Dear crypto tax software people... don't use ticker symbols... ever. But CTC has been a blessing compared to that bullcrap.

I believe ETFs open a channel for the Early Majority, Late Majority and Laggards and the means to 'cross the chasm'. A credible analysis of BTC from a 'crossing the chasm' perspective hasn't been made public as far as I am aware. Two items are essential; a USP that's a better solution to an existing problem, a defined and identifiable major market segment that is the target for adoption. This where a CTC analysis is unclear because this type of analysis is based on utility not on investment. The dominant USP(utility) is the preservation of value over the long term and this suggests depositor entities are the target segments. An arbitrage opportunity also exists (investment) as BTC finds its value position against other stores of value. Eventually the arbitrage opportunity will disappear along with those who were only interested in investment. For me ETFs are a channel for depositors and investors who do not want/are prevented from direct market access to BTC. This will make it difficult to identify the different segments but both are significantly larger than the segments in BTC today, by a few orders of magnitude.

Cryptotaxcalculator.io is a really good and flexible tax software based out of Australia. Pointing this out due to the Aussie website and relevance to the ATO. As an American I also use CTC and can say that they have some of the best customer service reps out there. Like all software, if you're a degenerate defi trader you'll need to do the work to get the software lined up properly, but once you figure out the learning curve, CTC is just ahead of the curve in terms of new trends & flexability to make the software do what you need it to.

I help folks sort out their crypto taxes all the time. I've found cryptotaxcalculator to be the best software out there in terms of compatibility with new projects, sidechains, and trends. I hear Koinly is good too, but back when I was testing them out, CTC was just better for the types of complicated trading that my clients were doing.

I just saw your edit. The last nice thing about bitcoin.tax is that they make it very easy to generate an opening report in CTC so flowing your old data into the new software can be done with relative ease. If you ever want to toss in the towel, feel free to DM me.

I can't really give a sales pitch on the differences since there's just so many nice features that bitcoin.tax didn't have before I left them. CTC just allows you to make bulk edits easier, access on-chain info easier, and generally is faster to market with new sidechains and contract types. The last I checked, it wasn't yet compatible with Uniswap V3 natively, but if I to put my money on any of ths top software to be the 1st to offer it, it is CTC. As an example: CTC had full compatability with NFT data like 6 months or a year before Koinly did. Bitcoin.tax is nice and reliable if you personally are aggregating all the data yourself into their manual upload format, which if you already mastered the learning curve isn't a big deal to do, but CTC's automatic API compatability with certain defi data just does a lot more legwork outright, so you can focus more on the complicated transactions.

Unless bitcoin.tax had a massive overhaul in the past year, it is like using a standard calculator to calculate your crypto taxes compared to some of the other options out there. I find that cryptotaxcalculator has been *very good* about staying ahead of the curve in terms of new trends/compatibility with new sidechains compared to other software. Of course no software is perfect, so there's a learning curve to understand how to make edits efficiently, but as someone who made the leap from using bitcoin.tax to CTC when helping to reconcile my clients' taxes, I can't say I miss bitcoin.tax.

My recommendation would be to check out cryptotaxcalculator.io before you go the route of shelling out thousands of dollars for a tax professional to reconcile your transactions. CTC tends to be a much more flexible software than Koinly in terms of compatibility with wonky transactions and sidechains. Additionally, CTC has a pretty responsive customer service team to help answer UI questions/issues. Otherwise, I assist people in your situation all the time. My typical clients are usually degens, project leads, or otherwise sophisticated investors who need help getting their crypto taxes done properly. If you're at the point where you're sure you want backup, I'd be happy to assist you. Otherwise, another option might be to schedule a consultation to discuss any questions you might have while you try to do the legwork on your own. Feel free to DM me if you'd like to discuss further. Otherwise, I did a few AMA's a while back that might be able to answer some of your questions if you want to check those out.

Ron Paul thinks inflation is solely a monetary phenomenon and it simply isn't. It's so frustrating to see people claim that the inflation we're seeing today is purely a matter of demand rising above supply when it's actually supply falling below demand. If you don't understand the difference between those two, you're going to prescribe lower demand instead of higher supply, and you're going to avoid shielding the lower and middle class from higher prices out of fear any spending will further drive inflation. As one example, the monthly child tax credit was not driving inflation but was shielding families from the impact. Letting it expire just doubled the damage of inflation instead of nullifying it. Restoring the monthly CTC would really help families without increasing inflation, especially if it was paired with windfall profit taxes on price gouging. We are where we are mainly because of a pandemic and its impacts on the global supply chain. China keeps locking down and each time they do that, it hurts supply. Workers missing work due to illness is way elevated above pre-pandemic levels. That hurts supply too. Supply chains were all fucked up from just on time manufacturing practices. Then Putin comes along and fucks up things even worse by invading Ukraine, which significantly reduced global oil supplies which were already lower because of the pandemic, and also hurt the global supply of wheat because of how much Ukraine exports. There's so much going on all over the world, with inflation all over the world because of a pandemic that isn't over yet, and a war that isn't over yet, and does Ron Paul understand any of that? No. To Ron, it's all about money, and it just isn't.

The tax reports don’t always pull in the withdrawals from CB to CB Pro or vice versa so in the software just change those to send/receive. CTC has a TT export as well. Stimmy checks have dried up, so you're not going to see the markets become bloated again like they did in the first half of this year. Actually, you may see them deflate when people that received the child tax credits this year realize that money wasn't free, but an advance on money that would have got back this coming tax season. Many may draw down their investment accounts to pay for overpayments of CTC's because they didn't know shit about fuck.

I just received the letter from the IRS. It’s part of the Child Tax Credit (CTC) from the “American Rescue Plan, signed into law in March” It urges me to go to www.irs.gov/childtaxcredit2021 for additional information about the advance CTC payments.

Mentions:#CTC

>Those people will get up to $3,000 per child, or $3,600 for each child under the age of 6, in 2021, subject to income restrictions. The benefit will reach 39 million households, many automatically and by direct deposit every month, starting on July 15. And from [this article](https://www.nj.com/coronavirus/2021/05/stimulus-check-update-child-tax-credit-up-to-300-a-month-coming-in-july-irs-announces.html): >The funds, which are part of the American Rescue Plan, will give up to $300 per month for each child under age 6 and up to $250 per month for each child age 6 to 17. The maximum Child Tax Credit (CTC) is up to $3,600 for children under the age of 6 and up to to $3,000 per child for children between ages 6 and 17 for those who are eligible. When the monthly payments end, the rest of the credit can be claimed on your 2021 tax return. Idk why the average is 1.93 kids for 2019 but taking that metric with the 39 Million estimate, would be $18.817 Billion - $270.972 Billion a month, extended for the end of 2021, so 6 months would be around $112.905 Billion - $1.625 Trillion total for 2021. If extended to 2025 (4.5 years total, or 54 payments) like proposed would be $1.016 Trillion - $14.632 Trillion. I'm guessing it will settle at the mid to lower end of that range, but who knows. The dollar is bleeding

The CMC limbo. A term made up by yours truly. Some time ago I noticed a weirdness with CMC's ranking. Mainly in the 201+ range. I don't know why this is the case. No idea if it's a bug or whether it's intended. But, that range holds high(ish) market cap coins that should be listed higher. At current stage, it holds 18 coins higher in market cap thank rank 100 (of which 14 above 1 billion market cap). And an additional 41 coins that rank higher than rank 200. The highest MC coin listed are wrapped BNB and CTC both at about 33b. They'd be listed at rank 42 and 44 if listed correctly. Seriously been unable to find an explanation for them getting stuck in this limbo. But it's really odd!
