Oh man so much nostalgia. I heard about it via the deep web in 2011. Made some $120 purchase for like 12 something. Was prepping for my first EDC experience since they moved it to Vegas. Never bought off an exchange back then as I met a local trader. And there was also this escrow/trading site you could buy from other people who indirectly sold their coins to you. Don’t remember the site’s name, but the set up was pretty cool. In the simplest explanation, you would just deposit cash at any credit union and then get sent btc to your wallet. Aside from bank cameras, you’re still a John Doe. I was pretty paranoid if this whole thing was legal since it felt like a gray area. So I never even bought off an exchange like coinbase. Anyways, spent most of that 12 coin for EDC. I wouldn’t be surprised if I had a .5 coin lost in the void somewhere. Gonna go dig through old laptops now 😂 So I wanted to get more, but was kinda discouraged and didn’t until sometime later that year or next. But, I had seen the price just kept going up every single day I checked. But because I got em @ ~$8 just weeks prior. I just kept waiting for price to fall since I was convinced by my naivety that if I bought more at “that moment” it would fall resulting in lost money. I even convinced my gf at the time to invest and buy a coin for ~ $400 in 2016. Plan was to pay off student loans if it went up to like $20,000. But being that I bought and held it, I ended up using some of it. Obviously had intentions to replenish it a couple weeks later, but unfortunately, the price went up to like 600 and I waited again for it to come back down but it never did 🤦🏻‍♂️ I’m still aghast with how carefree I felt back then as it related to saving, planning, and investing for the future. I know I’m just one among probably countless thousands of others who also wish they saved their btc. It’s really something to go back in memory to play out how an insignificant change like saving 4% of every btc purchase (in just 2017 alone) would leave me about ~3 BTC left over. I know everybody sure wishes they invested back when it was new and low. However, having and buying it to trade numerous times early on, then realizing what *that* could have been always hits in the feels when the price reaches a new market high. It’s never too late or too early to invest!

Meh. Like .01% have really cool utility. But just having a random picture be worth a lot of money for zero reason was never going to be sustainable. I have the Tomorrowland NFTs. Tomorrowland is a massive festival that happens in Europe (and a few other places). It’s like the EDC (Electric Daisy Carnival) festival that happens in Las Vegas. Tomorrowland instantly sells out every year. But if you have all 3 necessary NFTs, you are guaranteed the option to purchase 4 tickets every year. This festival is two weekends and has around 200k people. There are only 5000 of each NFT. So 5000 possible full sets of the NFT. This has utility. You are guaranteed tickets to a fest that sells out among other perks like touring the festival the day before. It opens. The total value of all 3 NFTs are about $3400 US right now. They were about $130 each or $400 total when they first dropped. https://nft.hardy.se But that makes sense. People want to go to this massive sold out festival and tickets are really hard to get. But some random fucking jpeg of a monkey for millions of dollars? That’s fucking stupid. NFTs will stick around, they just won’t be for investing. I want NFT drivers licenses, concert tickets, and things like that. But NFT art is so fucking wack. What an incredible scam all these fucking people created. It’ll be really interesting to look back on it in like 25 years. Haha.

While chatting about the likelihood of your seed getting hacked is interesting, the main risks of your crypto getting stolen is your seed getting compromised IRL. In the event of a robbery/fire, are you set up for backup? Having a seed unsecured inside your home could be the potential biggest threat of your crypto being stolen in the future. Moving your crypto out of your home is a good way to mitigate these risks My setup allows my seed info to be stored outside on my property to mitigate any risk of robbery/fire. What I did: * Use high quality paper and ink to write my seed down * Why not stamp metal? I probably will in the future as another redundant backup. However, I'm too lazy to actually stamp out a metal backup. * EDC container: first step is to roll up the papers and throw it in one of these EDC containers. They're typically used in camping for storing medications. They're watertight, cheap, and rugged. * Fireproof bag: this is just another layer of security. Bag is rated to 5200°. The bag is also waterproof as well. * IP rated electrical box: high toss the container and bag setup into an IP rated electrical gang box. Again, waterproof and rugged. * I also add a reusable desiccant to control humidity. If you're using paper backups for long term storage, keeping a seal that's not humid is key Hide in a safe place! This set up is triple waterproof, humidity controlled, and fireproof. All for a very cheap setup that's no bigger than 3”x5”. Secure your seed, be happy. Hope this helps give you ideas to cheaply and safely store your seed. Other consideration: * In the future, I'll toss a metal stamped seed into the fire bag * I have partial redundant backups in other locations with trusted family members

In all seriousness, I have my seeds in a waterproof EDC canister inside a fireproof safe. Biggest risk is theft should I be robbed with it being in my home. ​ I am debating on getting a cache that is possible to be buried on my property.

what a bad advice, first you dont need a 30€ cryptosteel slate, as there are similar EDC enclosures on aliexpress for less then 5 dollars. And then who guarantees you the seed phrases are safe in a bank? many people lost all they had in bank safes.

The idea is that an event has occurred which *ex ante* may seem to outside observers to have great significance to the commenter. However, the commenter, (myself in this instance), is actually nonplussed and moves on with surprising ease which belies a general lack of regard for the presumptive grand event and undermines the initial expression of concern. In this particular instance, /u/admiralCeres expressed their belief that this bear market could last for years. this would seem to an outsider to be a matter of great import and consternation. To reinforce this assumption of import, /u/EDC86 noted that this possibility was scary. On the other hand, I am not particularly bothered by this possibility and expressed this with my single word comment. I could have added more than one word in my initial comment, but I am a person who values conciseness in communication and I strongly agree with Shakespeare that brevity is the soul of wit. Additionally, the lack of effort or elaboration in my initial comment serves to further the impression of an unflappable nonchalance regarding the subject matter. Happy to explain more but I don't want to waste your time with a long comment.

As someone that's been around crypto since 2014, manually saving .dat files and saving bitcoin wallet maker HTML's offline to create some assemblage of cold storage, I feel your anxiety. I have lost \~600,000 Doge alongside other crypto in the process over the years in the attempt of keeping my own keys and making mistakes along the way. When Mt. Gox happened, I never trusted any exchange. It made me very paranoid that my coins were ALWAYS subject to being stolen. I will always come from that mindset. However, in 2021, things are much different. Security standards on exchanges are significantly better, MFA on accounts mitigates hacks on individual accounts. I would feel comfortable up to a point for newbies to store their crypto in a hot wallet like that. I am a creature of habit, still thinking things are 2014. I have a trezor protected in a fire proof safe, my seed phrases written on paper and in USB's in EDC canisters in multiple locations. Is it a pain in the ass to maintain when I add new coins/phrases? Absolutely. But I absolutely refuse to keep my crypto in other's custody. I think it is one of the very foundations of crypto: to be your own bank.

Some people wish someone would try, so they practice their aim down range maybe something like put 2 to the chest and 1 to the head for each contact. which is why i recommend to everyone not just investing into crypto/stocks et cetera, too also invest in a concealed carry license, and a reliable EDC carry 9mm, always carry an extra mag for exigent variables, always one keep one in the chamber, and never have safety on, if your model has one, because that’s what trigger fingers are for. We shouldn’t be clicking and SUSPICIOUS hyperlinks from unknown origins, don’t compromise your identity/finances. Scammers should be held accountable to the court of law in the country of their victims country of origin. There’s a special kind of hell for scammers, hopefully they find their 2 : 1 ratio accordingly. AMF I wish you all well on your portfolios, the few, the proud, the crypto believers. Given it’s short term wins in EY and implementation as Coinbase’s scaling solution, it’s continued growth in user metrics, and long-term endgame of ZkRollups to shift away from the PoS chain, I’m in full agreement. When Matic rebranded to Polygon in Jan/Feb its eventual rise seemed so obvious. With all the recent developments, it still seems so obvious and I’m surprised it’s taking this long for the market to react. Also a small thing that hasn’t made much of a splash, but Coinbase is minting NFTs on Polygon at Gov Ball, EDC Las Vegas, and the EDC Orlando music festivals. Coinbase has obviously been a huge component to Polygon’s success and they’re continuing to invest in the project; betting on MATIC is like betting on Coinbase at this point. It’s a foolish bet to not take when we’ve already seen how Binance blew up BNB with its tight integration with the CEX.

I appreciate the thoughts, but i'm a festival vet and only sticking to booze on this one since my wife cannot partake (newly pregnant as mentioned). It's called breakaway, mainly EDM festival. Been to EDC Vegas, Tomorrowworld, Middlelands, Electric Forest and a bunch others. Hoping to make it to tomorrowland once covid finally allows.

Yea, I might hold off on EDC until the second one after the pandemic. I don't wanna be at a festival where people are way too whacked out of their minds because they're compensating for being cooped up for a year and a half. lol

Agreed, although I think 2021 is a poor time to be chasing these particular experiences since everything from municipal permits to safety practices are all still in flux. For now, BTC is a far better investment than say, EDC LV which got bumped to October and now Insomniac has another interest-free loan from ticket holders.
