You don't own bitcoin and you aren't buying bitcoin with an ETF. You are buying a product that is tied to the price of bitcoin. The custodian is not holding the bitcoin for you. They hold bitcoin so they can sell you the IOU and not rug themselves. So, if you want to own actual bitcoin to use in the future, you are stupid to buy an etf. If you want to have exposure to the price of bitcoin, only want to realize those gains in USD, and never want to touch the actual asset that is bitcoin, you are fine with the ETF. I personally think it's better to self custody bitcoin for both scenarios. It's not that hard to trust yourself. Can you drive a car? Holding 24 words is way easier than controlling a muder machine going 50 MPH with only imaginary barriers.

Dedicate time to learn. You don't have to jump in head first. Dop your feet in with a few 100,000 sats, send funds, or even use test net. Get comfortable with it and you'll be fine. Only maniacs enjoy driving down a road at 75 MPH only a few feet away from oncoming traffic for the first time. After a while, it is commonplace for everyone. If you can drive a car, you can self custody.

A truly secure wallet will warn you if you're about to lose all your assets (approve a bad signature, sign to an EOA, etc etc). All my adult working life, my finances have been like flying an airplane 200 MPH only 5 feet over the ground. Hardly any tolerance for a sudden drop in altitude. that sucks. speaking of someone who's insurance should be going up, one of my nieces just told me that last night just after leaving the beach, her friend was in an accident. it was raining heavily and this idiot said he wanted to try to hit tripple digits in speed (MPH). well there was a turn that says to go slow around and he lost control and hit a tree and totaled his car. he in the hospital now with a broken femur, broken knee cap and shin bone, broken neck and severed femoral artery. I can't point to a specific event, but essentially a lightbulb turned on in my head a few years back giving me a vision of the future that most folks here would still be skeptical of. When I took a step back and looked at this space from a macro level concentrating on where we were in 2012 and where we are now (early 2020) - the future was as clear as day. Even today while everyone is seeing endless seas of red, I've *never* been more bullish. The way I see it, we're closing in on 88 MPH, and when we hit it - you're gonna see some serious shit.

Well, I have both a public health degree and an MD and the primary reason I mask despite having been vaccinated and boosted is that I have to be around someone who can’t be vaccinated. Maybe you don’t care about catching it asymptomatically or with mild symptoms and spreading it to a vulnerable person you interact with but a lot of people do. Also, since I do have a public health degree myself I’m going to point out that you knowing epidemiology and health economics and the like doesn’t at all qualify you to determine whether a mask is required or not for any particular viral illness, it doesn’t qualify you to interpret data on whether a vaccine is efficacious and especially would not qualify you to make good educated guesses on what the best preventative measures are for emerging variants. Making it sound like your MPH actually qualifies you to determine whether people should mask or not is ridiculous and I know exactly the shit you need to learn to get your degree because I took the same fucking courses. You citing your MPH is like the people who attack crypto bringing up their Econ degrees.

At which point what's the point of the network, just make 1 on chain transaction instead of 4. You're completely glossing over the important distinction. On proof of stake, the wealthy will always be able to stay ahead regardless of any changes in anything. It's a guaranteed wealth inequality from start to infinity. With proof of work, things change. To stay ahead, you have to keep running your mine, upgrading, keep staff, contribute to the economy. It does encourage clean energy development. And honestly fuck the environment argument. You know what is more wasteful in terms of physical pollution and power consumption? Buying TVs and using them to watch Netflix. So give me a break. What's more valuable, watching tv for entertainment, or a global financial system accessible to all? Ive been waiting since 2016. SOL is not serious, Im sorry its not a working product, while I have concerns about ETH breaking down, SOL actually breaks down, repeatedly. The TPS claims are silly and unsustainable, the model relies on rich centralised actors. Maybe ok for a semi-centralised NASDAQ one day, but not a general use crypto. LUNA/DOT I have no strong opinions about, sem ok I didnt get into the details enough. ADA is my personal preference, the eUTxO model, Babel fees, the clever staking model and long term vision and rigour seems to have few downsides.

I dont hold (and never have) ETH or SOL. ETH is getting itself into a mess, its trying to drive at 100MPH while simultaneously performing an engine change. The roadmap ETH is following has all the pages jumbled up, meaning its trying to in several directions at the same time. SOL is on its first drive around the block, each bump in the road causes it to either slow down and swerve into oncoming traffic, or to just completely stall, and need urgent roadside assistance. But at least ETH works, we know its got a lot of irritating issues, for example filling it up at the gas station is really expensive. Its worth owning an ETH vehicle though, because you can get from A to B in it. Conversely SOL vehicle may never get you from A to B, so as a vehicle is pretty pointless today.

I was completely shocked, but I guess that is what happens when you're entire economy, lobbying and politics ran and operated almost entirely on fossil fuel money and some agriculture for decades. I think this is why Tesla decided on Texas, in addition to all the subsidies and sweetheart deals they got and the tax benefits they saw from SpaceX's divisions, and so with the population boom and tech company migration due to COVID they may now have the resources to pivot away from fossil fuels in earnest. I hope in addition to the EV infrastructure you guys do a better job about the homelessness (that CA never solved in the Bay Area despite all the tech money) as that is a dirty secret people who moved to Austin are trying to deflect.
