The thing is with cyber security companies, one breach and they take forever to recover. The MER is 0.6% which might be higher than broad market etfs like VOO and VTI, but it's right on par with thematic ETFs. Youre paying for insurance, at least that's the way I look at it. Also these cyber security companies work on several layers within the tech stack. You're capturing everything in one etf as opposed to single companies. I do believe HACK will do really well in the long term. Cyber is only getting more and more relevant with the amount of data being consumed.
I have HACK for the same reason and it's been rather steady. May be because their holdings also include things like CSCO as well, but I don't see that as a negative. I think the future of the segment is only on doubt because no one really knows what to make of the AI boom yet.
I am a nerd by trade and have been passively aware of QC for a decade. It started coming into conversations around my job a year and a half or so ago around cyber securuty. If you look at the holdings of both the CIBR and HACK ETFs you'll see some companies that have already been focused on PQS/PQCS Post Quantum Security/Cyber Security. The expectations are that QC will require cyber security measures magnitudes better than what we use now. Bitcoin is already considering the implications of QC on encryption. That is small beams relative to the entire global banking system that will have to harden itself against QC being used to try and access their servers. QC has been and is looking more and more likely to have very significant impacts. I mentioned pharma in my other reply to you, cyber in this reply. A C level rep from, I think it was IonQ, mentioned they are using their QC to help the DoD development nee counter corrosive paints and methods to protect ocean faring vessels. That isn't something I would have ever considered as a use case but it makes sense hearing it said out loud. The money and labor the DoD could save with a newer/better anti corrosion process and materials would be significant. Just one more example of my imaginative people than myself finding applications for QC.
too many imo. I'd do 60% VOO or maybe VTI and then 40% VUG or VGT like the other poster said. A wee bit of HACK or CIBR if you want some additional focus on cybersecurity although i'd say just buy some Crowdstrike stock instead for that.

You're going to underperform the market. To overperform the market, you'd need VTI, QQQ, IOO and you can use spare charge on DFND and HACK. LIT and ICLN are terrible. Healthcare is a hit or a miss and has underperformed the market.

What is your opinion on buying cybersecurity etf such as HACK? In other words, are you bullish on the cybersecurity sector as a whole, or do you think there are a few companies that lead the sector and you would prefer to invest there?
Good observation on the divergence between software and chips. Trump’s tariffs definitely hit the chipmakers harder, which is why software’s been in favor—less production risk involved. That said, the chips are undervalued right now, especially names like NVDA and AMD. If those tariffs don’t cause too much damage, the chips could bounce back. But, I’m with you on the software plays for long-term holds—IGV and HACK look solid. Still, I’d keep a close eye on how the market reacts to those upcoming product launches and tariffs in January.

I am really into CIBR and think cybersecurity will outperform SPY over the next 10 years. I have almost 20% of tech portfolio invested with that ETF. I liked CIBR's holdings over HACK. They both seem great though. FWIW, my CIBR holdings are less than 10% of my overall holdings.

Well if all the upgrades coming out now are providing exit liquidity that means the dump is near. In retrospect I obviously wish I dumped my outs much earlier, but with NVDA at resistance, all the insider selling, the shelf offering, ballooning inventory, lowering production, and tons of nonsense upgrades from HACK analysts* I can't sell them right now. *seriously, look at this HSBC analyst.
