I would instead study up on call and put spreads, which is buying a call (or put) closer to the money and selling one further out of the money (same as your long contract, they're either both calls, or both puts) to help offset any loss of extrinsic value of the long contract. Often times even better is a butterfly. You buy a long contract where you expect price to go through, shortsell TWO contracts where you think price may stop, and buy another further out of the money to complete the hedge for having two short contracts. This can be an additional 50% or so of short premium that can help offset the premium on your two longs than a simple spread would. Has a great risk profile and limited losses if it doesn't go as planned, and if it goes exactly perfect, you still get great convexity to make 3x to 10x if you get it right. The more I've played and started to get used to using butterflies, the more I like them. Naked short contracts is not the way to go, especially if you can't predict the future....

So I can tell you this....the challene with quarterly reports is companies then are always focused solely on that to appease investors for short term rather than being able to develop longer goals goals. I've known of TWO companeis that went public and then ended up going back and becoming a privately owned company primarily because of how short term thinking to appease investors was something that diminished their value. I have no problem with publically traded companies mind you....and of course am invested in many and those with a storied history can get away with some things other companies can't....and always focusing on a quarter can be challenge I think all publically traded company managers can agree on....because headlines are short and have no nuance causing messaging to be difficult. You can have an assclown like Jim Cramer have influence or so many others. I don't think it is awful to think that quarterly reports can be unneccessary in terms of a companies health and some investors might agree
