Don't think most folks know but active management was proven a "losers game" a LONG TIME AGO. BHB (beebower/ hood/ brinson) wrote and published the seminal article on this topic in 1990's called "Determinants of Portfolio Value" or something like that. No one believed it on the Street so they had to repeat it using forward 10 years data and published results were the same. It should alpha was negative and lost most money from BOTH market timing AND security selection. This should not be surprising if most folks even knew ALL the stock returns since 1926 came from just 4% of all companies vs. treasury bonds. Bessbinder published that awhile ago as well. Problem with folks is they don't READ the known literature before investing. That is what gets them in trouble.

AI, competition + all of their customers hate them. I do some vector graphics, not super seriously but well enough. Until about ~2022 I used Illustrator CS6 (released in 2012) because it was the last version which did not require a Cloud subscription. Then I switched to Serif products (now bought by Canva) because they were just as good and did not require a subscriptions. Recently I got access to the subscription version of Illustrator through work and I was surprised how much and how little has changed since FOURTEEN YEARS AGO: all the good Illustrator parts are exactly the same as in 2012; everything new is some shitty pop-ups slowing down your machine to advertise AI features. At this point, Adobe is a rent seeking business looking to squeeze out the last juice out of its brand before the whole thing collapses.

The CRM/MA market is ripe for the taking. Salesforce sucks as a marketing automation tool. HubSpot sucks as a CRM. The fact that Salesforce acquired ExactTarget THIRTEEN YEARS AGO and *still* hasn’t figured out a way to natively unify the data between Salesforce CRM and Salesforce Marketing Cloud is laughable to me. Their “new” Marketing Cloud Engagement+ is literally a skin on the original Marketing Cloud Engagement platform to trick people into thinking that they finally solved their unification problem. Their business model is based entirely around Dreamforce and inviting CRO’s to see Coldplay for free. Calls.
