I’ve been long PHO and FIW for years. Eventually water is going to become the new gold.

IDK, I've made a few bets NOT mentioned on this sub that have done great, netting me 5 figures last year. TY $VSAT, $BETA, and $FIW.

Plenty! I used fidelity's EDF screener. You can focus either on industry that isn't associated with those fields, or filter them for your preferred social responsibility criteria in the "objectives" dropdown. I'm mostly in on FIW, FRNW, and FDRV. FDRV is 3% vested in Tesla, but I am abiding it for now. Note: this is for my Roth. For a 401k/403b you typically can only choose from funds your employer provides access to. Experience may vary.

I’ve actually been meaning to look into small and mid cap water solutions companies. Up until this point, I’ve just used ETFs. CGW, FIW mostly. I knew we were in trouble this past week when they came off their permahigh. They’re low beta and pretty boring. I think I’m up mayyybe 50% on a 4 year hold. Compared to something silly like SOUN where I went 300% and sold. It depends what type of investor you are. Will water ETFs go parabolic? Doubtful. But it’s wild how much I hear about AI when the limitations for AI at scale (and data centers at scale) are just that… limiting. Extremely limiting. I’m team pump and dump with AI. It’s nothing IMO.

Yeah, but I’m about to pass out after a long day of travel so ping me to remind me later. Basically, west of the Mississippi there are more water rights than there is water. This creates an insanely lucrative market. There is a similar situation occurring in Turkey, the various Stan nations, and to a lesser extent western China and Morocco. You can, in theory, buy water rights directly, but it’s a very sketchy legal gray area in the western United States. However, you can invest in the underlying infrastructure and utilities. There are numerous acre foot indexes to track price but the fluctuations are wild, so like I said you have to really know the industry to make direct investment. You can just buy FIW and CGW and forget about it. You’ll make slightly less but maximize your exposure. Water bonds are also lucrative.

Yeaaaaaaah, no. Up 57% from inception in 2009. You can always plant more trees. Great as a portfolio hedge, but I wouldn't consider this a long-term growth plan, which is what I assume OP is looking for. If you REALLY want to invest in a finite resource, water is where you go ($FIW). You can't make more of that! Even then, it is still a portfolio hedge :)

The global bottled water market is projected to grow from $292.6 billion in 2025 to $509 billion by 2030, driven by rising demand for clean water, health-conscious consumers, and sustainability trends. Major players like Nestlé, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, and Danone dominate, but Primo Water (PRMW) offers a focused investment opportunity with strong growth potential. This DD explores why water stocks are worth considering, with a focus on Primo Water as a high-potential pick, alongside safer options like Coca-Cola and water-focused ETFs. **Why Invest in Bottled Water?** The bottled water market is a stable, growing sector with strong fundamentals: Market Growth: The global bottled water market is expected to grow at a 6.4% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2025 to 2030, reaching $509 billion. Still water (74% of the market) and sparkling water (7.9% CAGR) are both expanding, driven by health trends and demand in emerging markets. Consumer Trends: Consumers are shifting from sugary drinks to bottled water, with U.S. per capita consumption rising from 31.6 gallons in 2013 to 46.4 gallons in 2023. Global Demand: Over 2.2 billion people lack access to safe drinking water, boosting demand in Asia-Pacific (44.5% market share) and developing regions. Climate and Urbanization: Water scarcity and urban growth are increasing reliance on bottled water, especially in regions with unreliable tap water. **Major Players in the Market** The bottled water market is competitive, with four major companies holding significant shares and a large "others" category including private labels and regional players. Here’s the breakdown: Nestlé (NSRGY): Estimated 20–25% global market share. Brands include Nestlé Pure Life, Perrier, and San Pellegrino. North America accounts for ~56% of its water sales. Nestlé’s planning to spin off its water business in 2025, which could impact its exposure but create a new investment opportunity. Dividend yield: ~3%. Coca-Cola (KO): Estimated 15–20% share, led by Dasani (12% of still water), Smartwater, and Topo Chico. A defensive stock with a 2.86% dividend yield and a $305 billion market cap, backed by Berkshire Hathaway’s $27.6 billion stake. PepsiCo (PEP): Estimated 10–15% share with Aquafina and LIFEWTR. Water is a smaller part of its portfolio (58% of revenue from snacks), but innovations like carbon capture bottling add upside. Dividend yield: ~3%. Danone (DANOY): Estimated 10–15% share, with premium brands like Evian and Volvic. Strong in Europe and focused on sustainable packaging. Dividend yield: ~3.5%. Others (~35%): Includes private labels (25–30% of the market), Nongfu Spring (China), Bisleri (India), and smaller players like Primo Water. **Investment Pick: Primo Water (PRMW)** For a targeted bet on the bottled water market, Primo Water (PRMW) stands out as a high-growth, pure-play option: Overview: Primo Water is a North American company focused on bottled water and dispensers, with $1.77 billion in 2023 revenue (5% growth) and 20% adjusted EBITDA margins. Why Invest: Unlike diversified giants like Coca-Cola or PepsiCo, Primo is 100% focused on water, making it a direct play on market growth. Its stock price is ~$27 (June 2025), up 50% year-to-date, with analyst targets of $30–$35 by end of 2026. Growth is driven by acquisitions, office reopenings, and demand for reusable water jugs. Catalysts: Rising health consciousness and corporate demand for water coolers are boosting sales. Primo’s focus on sustainability (e.g., reusable containers) aligns with consumer and regulatory trends. Risks: High debt from acquisitions could be a concern if interest rates remain elevated. Private labels (25% market share) are also a competitive threat, but Primo’s brand loyalty and B2B contracts provide stability. **Alternative Investment Options ** Large-Cap Stocks: Coca-Cola (KO) and PepsiCo (PEP) offer stability, dividends, and exposure to water alongside broader portfolios. Coca-Cola’s scale and Buffett’s backing make it a safer bet for conservative investors. Water ETFs: Invesco Water Resources ETF (PHO, 0.60% expense ratio) and First Trust Water ETF (FIW) provide diversified exposure to water-related companies, including purification and delivery. Both have outperformed the S&P 500 over the past decade. Utilities: American Water Works (AWK) is the largest U.S. water utility, with $944 million in 2023 net income and a 2.1% dividend yield. Its stock (~$130) has grown 500% since its 2008 IPO, offering low-risk exposure. Options: For higher risk, PRMW January 2026 $30 calls (~$2.50) offer leverage if the stock hits analyst targets. Coca-Cola or PepsiCo options are less volatile but still provide upside. **Macro Tailwinds for 2025** Population and Urbanization: The global population is nearing 8.5 billion, with 3–4 billion lacking reliable tap water. Urban growth and tourism (1.3 billion international arrivals in 2023) drive bottled water demand. Sustainability Trends: Companies are shifting to recycled PET and aluminum cans (7% CAGR), addressing environmental concerns and appealing to ESG investors. Economic Resilience: Bottled water is a consumer staple, maintaining demand during economic downturns. Stocks like KO and AWK are defensive plays in volatile markets. **Risks to Consider** Environmental Regulations: Bottled water companies face scrutiny for plastic pollution. Potential bans on single-use plastics could raise costs, though firms are adapting with sustainable packaging. Private Label Competition: Store brands hold 25–30% of the market, pressuring margins for branded players. Nestlé’s Spinoff: The potential sale of Nestlé’s water business (~$5.5 billion valuation) could disrupt its market position or create a new stock to watch. Interest Rates: Higher rates could impact debt-heavy companies like Primo Water or utilities like AWK. Conclusion The bottled water market offers a compelling investment opportunity due to its growth, driven by health trends, water scarcity, and sustainability efforts. Primo Water (PRMW) is a high-potential pick for those seeking focused exposure, while Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, and ETFs like PHO provide safer options. With the market set to grow significantly by 2030, now’s a good time to consider water-related investments. Disclaimer: no shit this is generated by AI

Not familiar with IWF/CIBR/FIW, you don't need any insight about SPY (though I prefer VOO or QQQM), but I question SCHD. Right now, you can buy 1-3 year CDs or slap those funds in a money market or HYS and get as good or better returns than SCHD's garbage, taxable dividends. If I'm going to put money into something earning taxable income, I'm going to go with JEPQ or maybe a combination of JEPQ and JEPI. Not only do I flat out like the underlying securities better than SCHD, but the income is amazing.

I made a random M1 finance account about 2 years ago and have about 19 different ETFs. The top 5 in order of gains are; SOXX (semiconductors) XHB (homebuilders) VGT (tech) FIW (water) GRID (smart energy grids) VTI (total US). With that in mind, maybe consider doing; - VGT/QQQM (pick 1) - VTI/VOO (pick 1) - SCHD - XHB/FIW/GRID (pick 1 or 34/33/33%). I don't think you can lose with a portfolio like that. We will always need home builders, especially with home shortages. Soon we might desperately need more water tech and water companies trying to solve world droughts, efficiently converting sea water to drinking water, etc., and water is something we will always need, or soon need in more demand. Using M1 Finance makes it easy to hold multiple ETFs, putting more money on the ETFs that are down to buy them cheaper while not buying the ones that are up, and rebalancing accounts.

PHO and FIW have outperformed EBLU since its inception 165%/158% to 109%. So both PHO and FIW have done about the same as SPY in that timeframe while EBLU has way underperformed. Additionally EBLU has very low volume, 3000ish a day, versus the other two at 57k/27k. Every aspect of PHO is better.

XYL and PNR have been performing pretty well for me most recently. AWK hit a high ~190 and has been sitting in the 120-30s for a while. ETFs like FIW might be better for returns as of now. These are long term investments, I don’t swing trade these and they’re not as eye catching as something like nvidia

Water is viewed as a commodity resource when it’s really a luxury resource. As climate change accelerates droughts and sea levels rise, clean fresh water becomes more of a rarity. The most recent example of this is the fight between the states with access to the Colorado River—there wasn’t enough water to go around for both the farms and civilians, so they’ve had to ration it. I invested in various types of companies, but it was generally around water infrastructure like pumping and filtration systems. The US also has a very old water infrastructure system that’s in need of repair, so I tried to get in early at companies like XYL, AWK, PNR, and MWA. Those first three are my best performers, but I also started buying into FIW, a water ETF circa 2020-21, early in the pandemic

FIW has done similar to SPY for the past year and the past decade and water surely will become more important in the longer term, but the question is whether it is better to hold it or something else for the next few years before water becomes more critical. Obviously there are worse things to invest in, but at least for awhile it won't be the best ether.

I don't think it's smart to judge CWCO for it's performance over the last 6 months, and certainly not to compare it to FIW's performance over the past 3 years. CWCO has been around for a long time, so why only 6 months? On any longer scale, direct comparison shows CWCO to have lagged the water funds. CWCO's recent performance is coming off a base of having been one of the worst performing water companies in the market for the previous 2.5 years. Their management is bad, they have been stacking accounts receivable for a long time instead of actually getting paid, and all their attempts at projects outside of their core Cayman project have been complete failures. They might have something real brewing now, but I won't be investing at current prices, obviously.

Thoughts on that? **Stocks**: Microsoft, MSCI, Apple, Tesla, Home Depot, Mastercard, Visa, Amazon, Nvidia Since the market is so high right now, the plan was to invest 20% of the cash immediately, and then dollar-cost-average every 2 weeks from now until Mid-January where 50% will be invested. The remaining cash will be DCA throughout 2022 until 100% invested. The plan was to hopefully get the best of both situations of doing a lump sum and DCA. I don't want to miss out on the gains of today, but want to have cash available if there is a dip. Would love to hear some thoughts. Thank you!
