I don't disagree with any of this, but this is also a very limited view of the crypto industry and the ways in which money can be made from it. For example, crypto is a lot more than crypto**currencies**, and things like NFTs (er, "digital collectibles" in China) are already big markets. Yes, they're operating on permissioned chains and will likely continue to do so, but down the road the expectation is that the "digital collectibles" themselves will be cross-chain compatible and interoperable with non-permissioned chains elsewhere. Which is to say, there can still be a large market for the things that happen ON the blockchain, even if the "currency" usecase specifically is restricted. And in that scenario, yes, Chinese demand for NFTs would absolutely float all boats. And then there's the bigger picture of blockchain infrastructure and development. Many blockchain developers have Chinese connections, and plenty of services do too (exchanges, custody solutions, blah blah blah). The argument is that if blockchain continues to grow, it will have significant economic benefits for countries that embrace it. China is already profiting from that industry, and is well-positioned to continue doing so *even if the fruits of its people's labours aren't directly available to them* (hell, crypto is explicitly listed in the CPC's current 5-year plan). You don't have to use crypto as crypto to profit from building and providing services to the industry. It's true that Armstrong is playing on American fears around China (which is a whole other conversation), but the point is the same regardless of which country(ies) you look at. If the blockchain industry grows, and the US doesn't participate in it, then that economic impact will go elsewhere. Whether it's China or Europe or Timbuktu is irrelevant to the point.

I feel you on that. PP is a clueless tool. Every time his name has surfaced alongside Bitcoin/crypto its the most cringey thing I've ever seen in our politics... and that's saying something. He claims he wants Canada to be a leading nation in blockchain. Cool... we already kind of are as uncharacteristically forward facing as it is for us. We have a large and growing blockchain developer scene, all while the Bank of Canada has been diving head first into CBDC R&D projects for years now, and is seemingly going to end up one of the first western nations adequately prepared for their release. Rather than greasing the wheels on blockchain projects specifically, we need to be prioritizing SME more generally. PP is just trying to ride the coattails of crypto to seem hip and/or with it to a younger cohort of voters. But PP is neither hip nor with it, he's just a career politician grifting from public coffers for a living, attempting to divide the populous by stirring up anger and rage. For all the complaints about Trudeau being underqualified because he was a drama teacher... the CPC sure does like picking candidates with literally 0 real world experience (Scheer and now Poilevre).

Without the petrodollar being the only currency oil is traded in, the US will lose much of its' soft power and economic influence. I'd argue that a multipolar world is an infinitely better situation than a unipolar world in general(for everyone except the US ultra rich), and therefore there will be an increase in the use of bitcoin. As long as the NDP and Liberals are comfortable with a coalition, the CPC is going to be on the outside looking in. …you don’t need the popular vote to win, you need a little more than 30% of the available seats. …American Republicans aren’t doing Canadian Conservative voters any favours right now either. Class A had 1 vote. Class B 10 votes Class c has no vote. Class b only goes to them internally. Regular investors got Class A and C. This is how the owners retain control. They will do everything to keep control of the company. They don't care for investor gains. Luckily they manage the company more or less ok. They are not perfect but Google is too big to fail. CPC has been going down for years and revenue goes downhill but they are still healthy because they dominate the world as the top search engine. The word candidate is a loose umbrella term by definition. You are talking about the nominee, of a political party or more technically an [Incumbent](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Incumbent) rather than a `candidate`. [Candidates in elections](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candidate#Candidates_in_elections) * In the context of elections for public office in a representational partisan democracy, a candidate who has been selected by a political party is normally said to be the `nominee` of that party. The party's selection (that is, the nomination) is typically accomplished either based on one or more primary elections according to the rules of the party and any applicable election laws. * Candidates are called "incumbents" if they are already serving in the office for which they are seeking re-election, or "challengers", if they are `seeking to replace an incumbent`. * Pierre Poilievre is a `candidate` seeking to become the CPC `incumbent`. Statement 1: True * Pierre Poilievre is one that aspires for office. Statement 2: True * A `candidate` is one that aspires to or is nominated or qualified for an office, membership, or award. Statement 3: True * `Statement 1 is true` AND `Statement 2 is true` THEREFORE Pierre Poilievre is by definition a `candidate` It doesn't matter if he never wins and becomes the leader of the CPC. He is still considered `Canadian Prime Minister candidate` (the title of this post). Unless you want to fucking argue with a dictionary?

This article is quite misleading. You’d expect that from the National Review (who also have referred to crypto as something only useful to criminals.) The intentions of the government is to make crypto exchanges and crowdfunding facilitators that operate in Canada subject to the same reporting requirements as other businesses which move significant amounts of capital. This was part of their 2021 election policy and has little to do with the powers provided under the Emergencies Act. If crypto is to take the step into mainstream and really start having an impact on financial transactions these sorts of reporting requirements are necessary. The rest of the g20 is doing the same. More relevant, a CPC gov in Canada would also be doing the same. Don’t let our media turn you into a rube.

Holy fuck this thread. Rant incoming. Several of our country's economic ports were shut down by admittedly very well organized groups, impacting jobs and money on both sides of the border. Everyone screeching for worker rights, what about those workers impacted by the blockades? Or the ones being harassed by protesters? Oh we don't care about those workers? Like the international truckers that couldn't cross the border to do their jobs, fuck them right? Literally the group the protests originally formed for, being pushed aside now that the co-opting forces can't contain themselves. And the reports that ex military and ex rcmp are involved in the tactical shut down of economic routes, do those not bother any of you? Or are those just fabrications? Just government agents crippling our economy, or I guess to your mind they're just "patriots?" Are you so anti government that you actually support a crowd funded attack on Canada? Because that's what happened. I get it. We're all into crypto for the tech and the "freedom" (shudder), suddenly. And everytime some one steps in and puts in a regulation, we got to grab our pitchforks. But seriously, this thread? Trudeau may not even be decent but fuck, the CPC and PPC have fielded actual dog shit candidates. You want to talk divisiness? How about those trash monkeys not even able to admit that climate change is an issue and wanting to regress social issues that the majority agrees with. Field an actual right wing candidate that has some personality that isn't some maga freak. Get American style politics out of Canada, thats my pipe dream. How about field a platform instead of "everything that Lib did was wrong! Freedom!" I digress. What happened was a concerted effort to cripple Canada's economy. Local agents of all stripes getting money from all across the world through various channels to cause chaos on an already beleaguered citizenship. Yall call Trudeau a pussy for doing nothing, then he takes a hard line on not protesters, but specifically the people blockading the trade routes, and you call him a tyrant. Its too early for this shit. There was an article just a few days ago saying Canada wants to be a crypto leader. I still think that can be the case, but its going to come with regulations. And unfortunately, when events like these last few weeks come up, the perception now isn't good. Its scary for everyone when a group, for whatever motivation, can hobble our economy and find international financial backing. And Trudeau has already used a national travesty (cough, Nova Scotia, cough) to push through regulations. This is definitely something to be concerned about. But, like I said before FIELD AN ACTUAL FUCKING CANDIDATE THAT ISNT SOME MAGA MEME BS. I, a life long lefty, would actually vote con of you could actually do it, cause I was done with Trudeau once he legalized weed and broke his reform promise. And Singh is great at speaking out and I think he'll be good at growing NDP voter ranks for a few years but he won't ever win. But if you want mass adoption, it's going to come with regulations. That just reality. I guess you're going to have to decide what you want? Your hobby coins to stay underground so you can be edgy anti conformist, or the coins to go mainstream so its an valid commodity? Coffee just kicked in. Time to work and wait for downvotes and counter rants.

As long as the CPC keeps coddling the social conservative and far right portion of their base, they will never get back in power. O'Toole actually made the election close despite massive momentum for the liberals going in, because he moved the party. And yet, the CPC ousted him because that wasn't the platform he ran on during the leadership campaign. That tells me that the caucus is not interested in moving center, which means someone like pierre poilievre is probably going to win the leadership race this time. That part of the CPC is out of alignment with the rest of Canada, and all its going to do is get them more votes in Alberta where they don't need them anyway. I dunno man, a government that actually gives a fuck about social stability is a pretty good idea I think. Isn't that what governments supposed to be doing with all that state power, maintaining the stability of the society so things like civil war or famine and starvation doesn't happen- or is government just supposed to be there to get tax money and splodge it all on weapons to attack other societies with or finding ways to pay well connected cronies and their corporations. Maybe when your last famine was in the 1970's and your society has been through what China has been through in the past hundred years or more, it effects ones perspective. China used top be poorer than the DRC! Generally speaking I think we should meet societies where they are, instead of condemning them for not having our same Western standards or sensibilities. sure we can slag the Chinese off all day for not being sufficiently American or British in their outlook, for insisting on being Chinese all the time, but at the end of the day does shit-posting on facebook really mean lot compared to the (if I recall correctly) Three Assurances and Two Guarantees to their people (food, clothing, somewhere to live, an education, and employment). I can't condemn a state that makes a big deal about those basics, many people who live in third world countries would love it if their government promised at least those things, never mind all the other stuff Western countries go on about a lot. Even with human rights, poverty reduction and ensuring everyone gets somewhere to live seems like a pretty solid human rights principals in my opinion, it can't all be just about Muh Property. Sure, it's not what your average American 'Sovereign Citizen' types might be interested in but still. CPC isn't perfect, but they've get enough right over the years and considering the US history of genocide, slavery and imperialism I really don't see why they think they get to lay into the Chinese all the time, that's all. Full disclosure, I've not been convinced by US accusations about genocide in China, I doubt the Uigurs in China have as much problems with their government than Afro Americans do, I've never seen a Uigur being gunned down in the street or slowly chocked to death by some leering pork-chop, I don't see China's prison system mostly locking up minorities, it's not even as big as the US prison state (which is vast, slavery is basically still legal there!) So far all I see is the usual WMD- grade perception management and narrative building to justify US next juicy tasty profitable Cold War they want to have. /ramble.

This is a published rate that is $.16 less than the lowest rate Google charges for CPC. I've got a pretty substantial bag, but the metrics do not look promising for BAT as an ad platform. Growth has slowed dramatically over the last year.

FUCK THE CCP! USA USA USA on a serious note, why do you ignorant people keep using this "CCP" when it's officially "CPC". like, how would you feel if China kept calling you something lame like "ASU".

As for there not being a "best" - I agree, there is no best, because every country has unique contexts and path dependence. When I said "best", I meant "to the extent that they can be compared" on the most important aspects of society, since *somebody* has to be best. However, this point actually also should alleviate your hate for the CPC - this idea of historical path dependence. It is the way it is because of all the historical forces. No single individual woke up one day and decided to do evil, not in China, not anywhere. It is fundamental attribution error (in the clinical psychology sense) to say China is bad and the Chinese have no morality, etc.

It is already happening in China. Use the digital Yen against the wishes of CPC, and you’re “credit score” risk being downgraded.

Thanks for providing a direct link - much appreciated! Time to break it all down & see who it does not apply to in China. Have feeling & strong hunch [Andrew Bolstein, senior vice president of Operations for the Shanghai Disneyland Resort](https://attractionsmagazine.com/shanghai-disneyland-senior-vp-gives-tour-of-new-safety-procedures/), will still be using crypto in some way/shape/form with some CCP/CPC minion watchdogs turning a blind eye.

It's neutral overall. Yes, China expanding soft power through its companies isn't great (and every company in China has at least some ties to CPC). They are infamous for using these kinds of deals to infiltrate and steal technology from other countries. But this is expanding access to blockchain and development, which is good. And it's separate from the Chinese entity, at least in name, so that's optimistic.

This "China will regret" narrative continues to be uninformed, and Bitcoin maxis continue to miss the point by making it solely about Bitcoin. China wants control over its money and wants to empower its CBDC Yuan. No shit--China's gonna China on that one. But, even as evangelists like Sylvain refuse to acknowledge it, crypto is so much more than Bitcoin, and China is among the most proactive places in the world when it comes to fostering crypto innovation more generally. They manufacture nearly every piece of hardware used to mine Bitcoin or any other crypto. They are actively using blockchain tech in smart cities, supply chain and inventory tracking, and other uses. A ton of crypto projects continue to develop and be incubated there. The top crypto exchange by volume has one foot squarely in China. We have no reason to believe the CPC doesn't hold BTC or other cryptos and profit off them. Whatever one might think about China in general, it's NOT anti-crypto.

That can also be a case, idk if the founders of mining companies (antpools and others) are members of CPC, many Chinese citizens are from youth, but its not public

You’re totally right, I don’t think your fears are unfounded. For the liberals performative social policies and climate change would be catastrophic for crypto in Canada (At least under Trudeau, I’m not a JT bashed at all, I voted for him in his first election, it’s just a fact). And for the NDP having a financial system out of their control wouldn’t fly. I would picture much more strict tax policy under them. Possibly even a ban as they complain about it being a “rich person play ground” or something like that. That leaves (realistically, the PPC and Greens don’t matter and the BQ aren’t relevant for 80+% of Canadians.) the CPC. Now theoretically they would be the best party to vote for regarding this issue, but historically they haven’t followed through with their promises regarding financial policy. And as their names suggest (CONSERVATIVE) they wouldn’t be interested in a subversive financial system that plays against their donators and themselves. I honestly think our hands are tied when it comes to who to vote for, I don’t honestly think there is a party in Canada that would be “pro crypto” and the most we can hope for is that we flies under the radar of the feds until we are too big to do anything about. You have inspired me to contact both my provincial and federal representatives to ask though, until now I was just resigned to a negative outcome, but there is no harm in checking. Especially if it gives clarity. Sorry for the verbal explosion. Thank you for making me think :)

The Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) is made up of nearly 100 members standing up for progressive ideals in Washington and throughout the country. Since 1991, the CPC has advocated for progressive policies that prioritize working Americans over corporate interests, fight economic and social inequality, and advance civil liberties. The CPC champions progressive policy solutions like comprehensive immigration reform, good-paying jobs, fair trade, universal health care, debt-free college, climate action, and a just foreign policy. The caucus, which consists of 95 House members and one Senator, has been the leading voice calling for bold and sweeping solutions to the urgent crises facing this nation, including ending America’s broken for-profit health care system, raising the minimum wage, eliminating political corruption, bolstering labor protections for working families, and taking swift action to stop the warming of our planet.

I wonder.... Yes, China stopped mining but do they possibly own a vast majority of over all supply of BTC. How do we know some of the top wallets aren't bases in China or belong to the CPC? Where did all the mined BTC by the Chinese (which is mostly likely also state owned companies) end up? They might have stopped mining but I'm sure they would not have left empty handed given the vastly long start time they had over the West in BTC.

Well if you are after the dissidents, wrong thinkers, critics. Then it makes sense to lure then in with a sympathetic face. China has done it before. The Hundred Flowers Campaign, also termed the Hundred Flowers Movement, was a period from 1956 to 1957 in the People's Republic of China during which the Communist Party of China (CPC) encouraged citizens to express openly their opinions of the communist party. Following the failure of the campaign, CPC Chairman Mao Zedong conducted an ideological crack down on those who criticized the party, which continued through 1959. Observers differ as to whether Mao was genuinely surprised by the extent and seriousness of the criticism, or whether **The Hundred Flowers Campaign was in fact a premeditated effort to identify, persecute, and silence critics of the party.**

Very true! Now the hash rate cannot be dropped at the whim of the Chinese government, because… it already happened! Here’s what concerns me: by law, every single corporation in China is majority owned by the government. I don’t know a ton about these bitcoin mining farms, but I imagine some of them are corporate entities and have been contributing a significant amount to the hashrate. If all of that is true: we should view these entities **as** the CPC themselves. It doesn’t have to be ‘Chinese Government vs Chinese Farmers’, it can be ‘Chinese Government/Chinese Farmers vs other Farmers’. This can very well just be the country of China setting up their businesses in different jurisdictions and diversifying (and strengthening) their position economically and within the crypto markets. Please, anyone correct me if any of this is unfounded. They’re simply my uneducated musings.
