My MIL was asking me about crypto last week. I think she heard it being talked about on one of her podcasts. She was more interested in precious metals, though. She couldn't get over the "there's nothing backing crypto" but she's fine with the faith that people put into the dollar and precious metals.

I have been dreaming of buying a nice office chair for my home office for a long time, just been using an old dining room chair I got off the side of the road. But I could never justify not spending the money on Bitcoin instead. Luckily my MIL found one on Facebook marketplace from a call center that was only open for like 2 months. Turns out they spared no expense because this chair brand new cost somewhere between $500-900, judging by the range of prices this chair company has on their website (I couldn't find the specific model). Luckily she got it for $50 from the guy liquidating the call centers stuff. No wonder they went under in just two months, buying chairs like this. Wonder how much their desks cost.

 >And antithetical to the subtitle of white paper “peer to peer electronic cash system”. How so? I have read the white paper. It seems perhaps you haven't (or maybe you just don't know the definition of that word). I was pushing you to explain for YOUR benefit because you made a statement (2 actually) that have no basis in fact. Nothing in the bitcoin white paper suggests anything more than *p2p money that requires no trusted third parties*. That's it. Sure Satoshi went further in his forum writings (and even the genesis block message) to make clear that "trusted third parties" included central bankers being trusted not to debase the currency, but a "whale" dumping his bags and creating short-term price shocks is fundamentally different than central bank money printing leading to currency *debasement.* Nobody can change the 21 million fixed supply. Period. Some will hold, some will transact, some will be lost, and that dynamic will ebb and flow, but no more than 21MIL can ever be made. >(and yet I do and I don’t know why) You and me both! lol :) But this actually isn't a dumb conversation (and yes I was a bit of an ass, I apologize.) You made this big point about people having large chunks of the circulating supply being market movers and how they could choose to make bitcoin less valuable by manipulating markets in ways that would be entirely irrational, and then claimed that this is all "antithetical" to the tagline on the white paper while at the same time drawing parallels between whales and central banks. It's not antithetical to the white paper, or to the value proposition of Bitcoin. This is a common misconception that people have (perhaps not you) and so it's worth discussing. Too many people seem to have this crazy idea that somehow bitcoin is going to be their savior, "fix the money fix the world" and that wealth inequality will somehow disappear and we'll live in a utopia where everything is perfectly fair and we all have equal opportunity and equal outcome, yada, yada yada. Nonsense. Bitcoin white paper suggests nothing of the sort. Trustless p2p electronic cash. That's it. Full stop.

There is a justified reason that a coffee pot in a USAF airplane costs $750 a piece (you can look it up, it is public information) ... the coffee pot wouldn't cost that much if DCMA and DFAS stopped shooting themselves in the foot with the ridiculous requirements. Also about to go up pheonomenally with the new auditing and cyber security requirements .... which means even bigger budget next year

In part of my post I mentioned that it was strange that they didn't want to use a conventional way of paying like a credit card, PayPal, etc. I agree with you that all of those avenues you mentioned are far easier than starting from scratch with an exchange. Following your logic, I could assume that someone only has cash and try to convince them to send money on PayPal. So they have to go to a physical bank, open an account, deposit the cash, set up a PayPal account, call MIL in Vietnam, teach her how to open a bank account, etc. You know what's easier than that? What we did before which was send the cash through the mail! Who is going to bother with all those other steps? That's what you sound like. If you assume maybe the recipient and sender already have a crypto wallet/exchange set up, it's very quick in most cases. Yes there's tax implications, but it's usually minuscule in quick transactions like I mentioned. While I did generalize in the title with "current banking system" what I specifically called out was wire transfer. A good example of this inefficiency is escrow in buying a house. Blockchain technology makes it's possible that buying a $200k house could clear a smart contract escrow in minutes. Much of escrow is waiting for a third party to actually transfer the money and the property. It's not perfect, neither is having to use escrow. But it's BETTER imho and I would use it if given the opportunity. that will likely come with adoption, just like PayPal came with adoption of the internet. As someone posting in a Bitcoin sub, why are so pro bank when Bitcoin was invented to fix issues with our current monetary system an electronic peer-to-peer cash system? What I described with my problem is one of the issues Bitcoin was designed to solve: banks restricting or making difficult (even by complexity) sending money to someone else.

1)The 1st point of yours is silly. Almost anything taken to an absurd degree would not be beneficial. It would be like someone saying "I have been selfishly working too much overtime. I should spend more time at home with my family" and then someone responds "Well then why not quit thd job so you can spend 24/7 with them. See how well never working again does for you." 2)Even in terms of absolute amount invested, the amount is higher for people the lower they get in. That is Mathematical fact. Buying at $5 vs $10 and selling at $1 Million rewards investor A with an additional $5. Lower starting point means both higher % and Absolute 3)More people cashing out only matters if there is more sellers than buyers. If 10,000 people will buy for $1 MIL, it makes 0 difference between 10 wanting to sell at $1 MIL or 500 wanting to sell at $1 MIL. Additionally, the more spread out the point of entry (the further prices goes down the larger the buying range becomes) the more spread out selling becomes. Your #3 is actually the opposite of what you propose. The more people in at low prices, the lower amount of people who cash out at the same time since they all bought at such different prices.

The value prop of BTC is the network and and its security. You and others use labels such as "old tech" but I would argue thats it fundamental, not old. And because it's fundamental, it's utility only hardens over time because of the belief in it by those who use it. What would you use to transmit $1MIL to anywhere in the world? A 100 y/o network (by the time block rewards end) with 0 hacks or downtime or "new" technology? Lastly, the use of lightening will grow exponentially as the price discovery years of BTC taper nullifying the "no one uses BTC" argument for retailers. An overlooked and undervalued aspect of BTCs global adoption is the transactions by large institutions, banks corporations and individuals in the billions to trillions because of the lower cost to do so vs. bank wire or the like. Fees from these transactions could not only supplement miners but put them well in the black YOY. ...Just my opinion

She spends on scratch offs what I spend investing in a non taxed advantaged account every month, several hudred dollars outside of retirement, 529, etc. But my wife and I have a combined six figure income. My father is retired with two retirements and social security, he makes about 45k/year. He buys cars, and before paying them off, trades up, thereby having to wrap the unpaid balance into the trade. Low income people really make stupid decisions. He also lives in a huge two bedroom apartment, after selling his house, paying more than twice what he did for mortgage and maintenance. I'm baffled.

First and foremost, your allegation of Frisky being a "serial rugger", without it being confirmed is very disappointing and misleading. This article takes aim at DFK from a completely over dramatised way from the perspective that this was all because of the exploit, this simply isn't true. The article even says in it that only a small portion of locked tokens entered the supply. The exploit allowed people to unlock their locked jewel at an increased rate. Either way these tokens were going to entire the market eventually, but that's not to say it didn't contribute the decline of the price as the unlock feature gives the project time to build out functionality and give added value to the token.(Also this exploit was fixed) This was just one of the reasons that added fuel to the fire on a risky alt coin play. Funny enough I saw many whales complaining that they couldn't exploit anymore and that they were just finding "creative" ways to sell their jewel (A lousy excuse at the expense of others as always). Many whales also panicked and tried to liquidate their heroes, locked and unlocked jewel, as the DFK team said they had all the addresses that exploited on record. DFK made most of us insane amounts of money and it only makes sense to either diversify or de-risk into fiat/stables at some stage, whilst global markets slide or whilst we wait on the sidelines for opportunities. Besides why would you bag hold a falling knife, I guess if you aren't in the interest of protecting your capital, why not. Next on the list, DFK doesn't have too much to do apart from some idle quests and summoning heroes rn therefore sentiment in jewel declined as there wasn't much of a reason to hold it and people starting fundding as development takes time to release, many people want to get rich quick and have everything released in a day. In conjunction with LP pools farming and dumping this just creates a snowball effect if there isn't a reason to hold. Caught slow rugging is also false and doesn't make sense either. Frisky has around $12 Mil in his Doxed wallet and he said himself it was a "personal connection" that had the initial LP account, the "personal connection" also only cashed out $2 MIL in profits which is peanuts in the grand scheme of things. Mind you they were given their own account and stuck to the rules of not withdrawing the initial liquidity and only selling rewards from LP. Whether it was a friend or family this isn't confirmed so only speculation. The fact the Frisky had the confidence to have a personal connection invest 15k, tells me everything I need to know about Frisky and how dedicated he is to building DFK. In conclusion, there are multiple reasons why something goes down and why it goes up rather than just one set in stone reason. This team has delivered on everything to a high degree, we will also see further details on the matter with an AMA in the coming hours.

Post is by: FlyAsh03 and the url/text [ ](https://goo.gl/GP6ppk)is: /r/CryptoCurrency/comments/t96sh0/liquidity_beginner_question_cashing_out_meme_coins/ Hopefully I am posting this question in the right place. I have some concerns about liquidity and I've been trying to find a good resource (video/article/post) but haven't had any luck. I understand the basics of liquidity pools but I am wondering how much do they affect the ability of someone to buy/sell a specific coin. For example, I've had cases where I am not able to sell a coin because of "price impact" hours after I bought it. How does that happen? Do people "drain" liquidity pools by taking out their LP tokens? Or can liquidity be affected in other ways? Another question I have related to this is, do people that make millions on a meme coin actually able to cash it out? For example let's say a meme coin has a MCAP of $30 MIL and Liquidity of $2.5MIL. If someone, let's say a whale, was in the coin from the very beginning and their tokens are now worth $1MIL would they be able to cash out? Would them cashing out impact the price 40% (1 million being 40% of 2.5 million)? I've seen some dexes that won't allow you to sell because of that. I just really want to fully understand this concept as I know it's one of the main benefits of cryptocurrencies and dexes. Thank you all for the help, any guidance is appreciate! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. My future MIL thought this was too paranoid and didn't take my advice regarding her phone. She was sim swapped last week for a grand total of $500 in...doge (don't look at me, I don't make buy recommendations). Her mistakes currently being fixed: 1. FB. Had her email and phone number listed publicly on her profile. 2. Used that one email account for everything including crypto. 3. Complex passwords? Nah lets go with easytoguess111. 4. SMS 2FA forever. And the kicker, given she's not the best at tech: She went to the Verizon store when this started, dazed and confused and looking for answers. Clerk told her the sim went bad and she needed a new phone. Anyway. IIRC something like 1500 swaps happened last year. Users will not up their security game and this will get worse until it happens to someone important like a DC politician. And suddenly laws will be passed.

>for one day only Yeah - and a bunch of Police not in picture. Ballsy move. Then again you cant just walk up to it and pick it up, you need some preparation to move. So you put it there for a day. Make headlines and GTFO before someone kills you. Of course yelling - I HAVE 11,7 MIL IN FISICAL GOLD AT HOME, MY NAME IS ... - is probably a bad idea.

You should agree with him, except for the statements about you personally. There are a ton of people in crypto with gambling mindsets, it IS volatile, hedge funds do manipulate prices. You are in fact investing in crypto to build your retirement account; it's good to start setting money aside long-term in your 20s and 30s for retirement. "Retirement account" doesn't necessarily refer to accounts belonging to those who are close to retirement. Assure your MIL that you have done your research and aren't buying the meme coins that BIL is warning about. It's volatile, but you're investing with a 10-20 year timeline and mass adoption is likely within that timeline. Don't discuss crypto with your BIL.

Post is by: Brinothedino and the url/text [ ](https://goo.gl/GP6ppk)is: /r/CryptoCurrency/comments/s3vkdv/need_advice_simple_secure_bitcoin_storage_for_my/ My wife and her mother were recently talking about investing, and my MIL mentioned she thought it might be a good idea to invest in Bitcoin. I've been into Crypto for awhile but I've only ever bought Bitcoin on shakepay, which has a pretty high markup as I understand it. My MIL wants to transfer me 1000 bucks to buy her some Bitcoin and put it somewhere safe until she retires. I don't think that's enough to make a ledger worth it, but I'm wondering two things that I thought I could crowdsource to y'all. 1) what exchanges (I'm in Canada) have the best margins AND withdrawal fees for specifically Bitcoin 2) what is the most secure FREE wallet for a long-term Bitcoin hold Thanks all, I love you guys. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Word on the street is Gamestop has 55 million active power up users they'll be on boarding to crypto through loopring tech. Loopring helping them launch a NFT marketplace VERY soon competing with opensea marketplace with close to zero fees in transactions. This is likely the first biggest real world mass adoption of crypto will see.. they have 5000+ stores worldwide and in the gaming industry with a lot of BIG partners. LRC have a lot more than gamestop coming up btw (speculation with bank of China, alibaba, etc) that's a lot of people using the token. LRC is almost fully circulated and companies need to lock up between 250k - 1MIL tokens to use. They get burnt as well through use. Currently with only a 2BIL mcap won't be surprised to see it top 10 this year.

I read an article in 2012 say that if oil was ever traded in BTC it could potentially hit a price of USD 1MIL per coin. After I read that I got involved and bought my bitcoin at less than $500 per coin. Still have sold any and I'm well diversified with probably qbout 20 other cryptos using the value I gained from my initial investment. People shouldn't even think about selling before the next 10years, these things will be worth an absolute fortune. Especially BTC & ETH. In my opinion BTC is digital gold and ETH is digital oil.

No offense to your MIL but personal bankers are not “bankers.” What I mean by that is they they are essentially just branch managers, they are not the ones making any real decisions in the banking industry. HQ passes down directives and branch bankers fulfill those directives. She likely only has a very vague understanding of how fractional reserve banking even works. Chances are she actually doesn’t even know what fractional reserve banking is. All of that to say, it’s not her fault she has uneducated opinions. She has been spoon fed bullshit by the likes of Jamie Dimon and other banking crooks. TLDR; your MIL is just regurgitating sentiment fed to her by corporate and likely lacks a strong understanding of fractional reserve banking.

Here is a hot take you have not considered. You are being played. Wife wants a divorce and knows you have been buying BTC. She intends to get half (at least!). She is putting you in a position where you need to admit said assets to counter a hooker and drug allegation. MIL is helping out.

Family always does weird shit. Let's focus on who did something illegal. The bank teller broke the law and should lose her job. Tell the bank they need to address the breach of trust, or you'll leave banks. Then do. MIL is worried, meddling and certainly crossed the line. Trust me a MIL can be way worse. Don't stoop to her level but let her know she's incorrect and to please stay out of your finances in the future. Stay civil. Understand your wife probably really respects her. Your wife is the only one that you should spend some time explaining the situation. Show her all of your finances and your financial plan. Bitcoin as an investment vehicle, how often you plan on purchasing and when you plan on using it. Since you are married, it's equally her money. include her. People advocating leaving your wife and mother of your children for such a small bump in the road are giving you horrible advice. All you have to do about the meth/cheating topic is ask your wife if she trusts you. That's it.

You could also look up the wiretapping law in your state. If it’s a one party consent state, you can record a conversation with your wife without her knowing about it. Have her admit to you about her mom and her friend at the bank. Then you can use that recording as a bit of leverage in the future if you ever need to. I understand your predicament with not wanting to leave your kids away for any length of time. It’s a tough situation so maybe this can give you an advantage when dealing with your wife and MIL. Best of luck

I think this was exactly his plan. He's as much at fault for investing into crypto secretly. If his wife had known, she'd have told her own mother to fo, but, no, he created the distrust in his own wife. If I were her, I'd be highly suspicious of him, too. Not saying she's innocent, and the MIL needs to be fired, but there's definitely a *lot* more to this story.

Go to the banks management - this should make them very uncomfortable- what a PR nightmare if that gets out. Threaten to sue the bank. Some people will get fired, your MIL will get toasted by her friends as they loose their jobs, others will be too scared to share information again, you don’t get to do anything further but know your privacy is now restored. Life goes on. Wife will feel shame. You grow your crypto. Win win I say…. L
