I thought it was interesting because Waymo doesn't go to my neighborhood so I've never downloaded & signed up for the Waymo app. I needed a car in central PHX and it asked me if I wanted a Waymo and thought I'd try it out. It was a really peaceful ride tbh. All through Uber app.

No it isn't lmao. I went to a White Castle in PHX and tried to order one combo with a coke. No special instructions and it couldn't handle it. It sent me to a human anyways. It would not be able to handle a full family order with simple special instructions. We're not there yet.
The whole AI thing is so funny. I've made money off it but it's so funny. I went to a white castles that was using AI to order in PHX, AZ. (Also, a rally's had this too). At the white castle i was trying to order the most basic combo, just one with a soda, and it couldn't register and sent me to a real person anyways. Just imagine a relatively complex order for a whole family. I'm just sitting there like, really, this is what's going to replace us all? It's less funny now with all the layoffs but still ridiculous.
I bought at 3.80 for long term. They just built a huge plant south of Atlanta. They are partnered with United Airlines, Joby with Delta. Archer now advertising in PHX & LAX areas. They have just finished outfitting LAX, JFK & ORD with their charging infrastructure.

Im considered a heavy drinker, but have slowed down significantly since I’ve gotten older (39m) I’ll still drink 15 beers some weeks and will go a month without drinking… but the younger generation seems to not have a taste for alcohol at all. I will say, after traveling with my brother ( who’s in recovery ) 3x last year - NYC, PHX, and DC - the NA market is huge. Every bar we would go to in each city had NAs and a lot of them. Bar tenders and Bar managers also would talk to us about how NAs sell all the time as the younger generation wants to be social but not drunk- and who wants to go to a bar and order a Pepsi.

Im PHX sky harbor intl everyday... serious improvements need to be made lol. Its a hold or sell, I wouldn't buy. The waymos constantly merge into people from drop off lanes at 75 degree angles into traffic, and cut everyone off. I've seen more than 5 accidents (humans running into them after waymo negligently merging) I cant imagine tesla is too much better, even though I've seen its decision skills seem decent. A combo of lidar and cameras working together might be the way.
That was my issue in PHX. Waymo often had 2 or 3 times the wait vs Uber or Lyft so I only took it once just to check it out

Assuming you're in PHX with both Intel/TSMC near each other... Everyone that's gone to TSMC seems miserable or they've almost immediately quit. I'd stick with Intel over them if you think you won't be laid off this round. But maybe look at equipment suppliers in the area... As someone who worked at Intel and later an equipment supplier... (and wife at Intel 17 years), I'd rank it: Equipment suppliers > Intel > TSMC
Coming from east of the mississippi, it was pretty bizarre seeing all the Waymo's in PHX on a visit last fall. Driving among them doubly so. They drove alright in easy scenarios, but algorithm seemed to break down pretty quickly when anything unusual happened.
Successful I guess in that they started the program in 2020 using the PHX grid system and grew it safely there… Big news was an empty waymo hitting a pole last year which resulted in a recall/investigation. And yet, by every metric, industrialised nations with free or subsidised healthcare are significantly healthier than Americans. Unfortunately, I have to go the US a few times a year. LA/NY/PHX/SFO/Houston/However, I absolutely love going people watching. Just a bunch of fat bastards on mobility scooters, eagerly soaking up non-stop healthcare commercials on TV while eating ultra-processed rubbish that isn’t close to meeting allowable standards elsewhere in the world. Oh, and my experience with US healthcare is absolutely no better than the 4 other countries I’ve lived in.
GOOG as a holding company constitutes hundreds of separate businesses, as well as venture investments, it's currently worth less than $2T. Search alone would fetch a near trillion valuation, YouTube and Google cloud each probably half of that. Android, Chrome, Waymo would be worth tens of billions each on their own. They own 7% of SpaceX. Deepmind, Gemini, Fitbit, Devices (pixel, Nest, Fitbit, Chromecast, ear pods and wearables etc), Google Fi, Google Fiber, Maps/Earth are all worth Billions. They have hundreds of moon shots, even if only 1% have any sort of success that could be worth billions. Depending how the proposed spin off would go down I would own any/all of those stocks given the chance. Also GOOG at $2T market cap is more profitable right now and growing faster than AAPL, MSFT, AMZN etc it has a PE of 19 and forward of 16, both much lower than the broad market, lower than WMT/COST, lower than any other MAG7 etc all due to legislative risk and AI fears. Meanwhile they have some of the best AI models and nearly two full years after the ChatGPT revolution they are still growing top line revenue at 12%+ and high margin businesses like Cloud at 30%+ AMZN, MSFT, AAPL all trade around 32-35 p/e. GOOG is nearly half that at 19, yet competes with all of them, and is inarguably more diversified than any of its competitors as it's currently constructed. At some point the market will wake up on this one, the catalyst very well could be a break up when all of their subsidiary companies start being valued independently instead of under the shell of "Google" and have all the bad energy and fear surrounding that name. Waymo alone might end up being the most valuable of the bunch in ten years, could completely replace taxi drivers, semi drivers, doordashers, Uber/Lyft considering their massive scale w Maps, Captcha, financial backing to expand quickly, entrenched "brand" association w Google, etc. I know quite a few people who have tried it in SF/PHX and LOVE it. I recall seeing those nerdy Google Maps/Earth cars driving around years ago, they are all laying the foundation for Google to possibly become one of the most important logistics and transportation players in the data age and they have a MASSIVE head start (currently in multiple cities doing hundreds of thousands of rides per month) over competition like TSLA robotaxi (0 paid rides to date) or Aurora/Mobileye/other small players in the field
I actually rode in one of those Waymo’s in PHX back in Oct…it turned a 50min trip to a 1hr 50min trip bc it refused to go on the highway and preferred routes it didn’t have to fucking turn and could just drive straight forever. Not to mention the first one got confused and turned around 20 yards from me and left me stranded. And then there’s the reports of them just stopping in the middle of traffic when they get confused. It was very unsettling being the only occupant in the vehicle and in the back seat…would NOT recommend to anyone. The Jag F-Pace was a comfy ride though 😂
Deflect all you want. Waymon isn't there. If a street has new construction, Waymo avoids it until it is mapped and measured. Tesla still obviously has issues, but I can turn on fsd in my driveway and it will drive me 37 mi through PHX to work, and park in a parking space 9 times out of ten. Call it what you want.
LA, SF, PHX and Miami. And now Tokyo. A year ago, they were in SF and PHX. In SF, their monthly ridership has more than tripled since April. It is still early, but these are all super promising stats considering most of the country is still probably terrified of the concept. But everyone I have ever taken on a ride is immediately sold on it. Even people who are timid. It is going to be the way ahead frontrunner in an industry that is going to save millions of lives and change our concept of traffic and transportation. But what tf do I know. The only people who seem to oppose it are gig contractors who see the future replacing them.
They aren't allowed to take passengers on freeways yet in PHX, so they're still a bit slow on longer rides. I use it exclusively for short rides though, can't wait until they finish freeway testing and let them go everywhere.

Good analysis. Having recently taken my first my Waymo I am struggling to see where Uber fits into this. Using the Waymo app was almost identical to the Uber one. In an autonomous future Uber becomes the taxi dispatcher and dispatch your ride to Waymo, Zoox, or maybe a person? I guess... Autonomous at scale is a long way off but taking one from PHX to the hotel and back it was pretty easy to see a future where dense urban cores (and maybe suburbs too) are dominated by autonomous ridehailing vehicles... And you are right about the asset light, pivoting to being the AI mechanics and maintenance isn't going to be playing into Uber's core competancies.
Hope TSMC gets it for PHX plant. They're building a whole ecosystem and our RE depends on it.

Liverpool will likely take Nordstrom into Mexico and cover the High End Retail segment. which they lack currently. This seems like a good idea given they already own 10%. and the Mexican upper class is already very familiar with Nordstrom due to them spending lots of time in Large Border cities(SD,LA,PHX,MIA,Dallas and Houston come to mind)

Just flew PHX to DAL on SWA yesterday. Busy airports but no issues with flight or luggage.
Live in SoCal and actually have a fun car that I use to drive everywhere. If in the future it economically made sense, I would opt to take self driving cars all of my working days. Just recently over 4th of July I was in PHX in a layover waiting for a flight and decided to go from the airport to a pub and took a Lyft there, the lady that showed up had such difficulty navigating to the place, on top of that she never accepted the ride, at least according to my app. My partner and I sensed she was high so we were just glad to make it out lol. We saw Waymo was available and my partner had access to it, apparently she is in the waiting list for access in LA but had access in PHX, we took one otw back and it was great! Driving pattern was great (didn’t go too slow or too fast, felt like a normal person driving). It’s just one experience but I was blown away by the difference of our two rides. Funny enough, on the flight out I see an article about a Waymo being pulled over in the PHX area for driving on the wrong side of the road so 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah, it is 100% the sales tax. I pay 16% here in PHX. Before taxes it’s the same price my friends pay in Texas… and they have the same product… the math isn’t even needed lol
That’s not the only reason. They also didn’t operate a hub and spoke model, rather a point-to-point system. When that works, it works very well. It also works very well for short-ish legs. Seattle, SF, LA, PHX type journeys. With quicker turn around, having people stay on the plane for connections isn’t as bad as competitors. But it can also get colossally f-ed up. Should it get off schedule, you don’t have the benefit of bringing all planes and crew back to a hub for an easy reset. They also used to send you free drink coupons on your birthday… not gonna lie, I liked that and it helped me buy a ticket as customer. I was a big fan of LUV, both as a customer and as an investor, but not any more.
Waymo in PHX was near flawless. Rode in them a dozen or so times, and only got stuck one time in a parking lot. The car automatically dialed a remote driver in after about 2 minutes of waiting, and we were off and running again. They're here. The question you should be asking is "how long until Waymo either rapidly expands, or is bought by Uber/Lyft for the technology for their own fleets."

I mean its crazy good, I dont think its around the corner, but of my 65k miles since I got a MYLR with FSD I got 3/2021. Id say 45k miles minimum is all FSD. I mean why not? It literally drives me to work in the morning without me doing basically anything. Ive used it across 7/8 states + Canada. I rented one via turo with AP only and it drove me from PHX to Grand Canyon well (miss FSD with lane changes and taking exits) Anecdotal, but everyone I have shown in the last almost 3 years has had their mind blown with what it can do. We have used Waymo, and its awesome too, but its not a consumer car, doesn't go fast, and cant do highways.

First its a wrong answer given in a Gemini demo & now its controversy about woke images. Missing the biggger/real picture. Here’s my NACl. Very indirect…it’s marketing hype, but it’s a gravy train. It’s the eco-system coming along with it. Chips go into hardware, housed in data centers, that require power to run it and to cool. Whether your API w/ cloud or DiY it’s all coming together. Chips will lead(Nvidia/AMD) REITs will follow(digital realty) infrastructure (Schneider) IT(Dell), and power is regional look at providers into Ashburn, DFW, PHX, ATL and whose got the lines into the DCs. Remember valualtion swings based on marketing, its hit high fast and bubble crash to balance it out when 85% fail.

I drove through ABQ on my way from CLE to PHX this summer. I’m a breaking bad fan, so I decided to pay Walter’s house a visit. (Off topic, but the lady who owns the house is SUPER mean.) Anyway…on my way to WWs house somewhere near his neighborhood, I pulled over in this large parking lot to get my bearings. After checking google maps and whatnot, I look up, and I’m sitting in the parking lot of the car wash that Walter and Skyler bought to launder money. It was surreal and I honestly couldn’t believe that I randomly stumbled on it. Looks exactly like it did in the show.

To be honest its all based on location for the ones I would recommend. Some are bad in some cities or you get a pushy sales person exc. I like Alamo, dollar, enterprise at most the ones I have been too. Mixed results with fox but nothing horrible. Sixt in PHX wasn't good to us but maybe we just got put in a bad situation and we rent from them often .each time the cars had major problems for the price we paid.

Yes if you bought even just pre-pandemic you’re sitting pretty in PHX. So many of these other cities don’t really relate to Phoenix because all the land is already developed. Like Chicago where I came from, you’re only buying new development an hour and half from the city without traffic, which means it’s not even accessible to live there and work downtown. Phoenix will continue to grow outward and we have fucking endless dessert and space to grow. So many new houses getting put up here every year. The one question is the water supply and the government stepping in to limit development, which rightfully so may end up being a huge issue.
PHX here as well. Got my home in 2012 and it was the best decision I ever made. I don't see PHX getting super cheap in an economic downturn which isn't even guaranteed. Everyone seems to think a great reset would lead to cheap houses but if you look at other countries you can see how bad home prices really get.
I keep hearing the stats over and over again.. I'm in PHX, and the prices ain't dropping. I did move from Boston, I noticed that rent prices have dropped. Apartment I rented, base rent was $2960 for a 1bd/1ba. After I left, it was listed for $3100 base rent and within a couple months, rent price dropped to $2800ish. This is in Medford btw.

There’s a company in the same area that’s 1/10th the size, trades at a better valuation and has 10x the dividend called PHX Energy Services. Worth looking into.

So, as of late, PHX has been suffering, was doing great for me for a bit, but I lost a lot on OLPX, and INNV due to nonsense (before the big loss,) my other stocks have pretty much done okay, XoM, AAPL, but then I have a few others that also screwed me. Like IPO was doing fine, then just dropped off, OLPX, my ex told me was one of those “Wall Street bet stocks,” fucked me. Shit is expensive, and inflation is high, but that's why a lot of these companies cater to the upper middle class. Now, CA is ridiculous and overpriced, but it's also the biggest market. Yea, Phoenix ABNB's are not doing that great in the Superbowl, because the stadium is in bumfuck Glendale. And while it's cool and everything, people tend to stay in the more 'fun' areas of town. Downtown PHX, Scottsdale, even Tempe by ASU. So, even if an Airbnb is priced competitively with hotels, the "Fun" part of town is always going to leave some home owners butthurt. Imagine paying $1500 per night to stay on the outskirts of Vegas, when you plan to go Caesars and put everything on black. People need to make more money, sure, but that's not Airbnb's problem. They don't assume any risk for the homes themselves. Prices are up, and it's expensive. Airbnb's margins have not shrunk. They're probably going to make more money, with lower occupancy rates. Airbnb is like uber, and Booking.com / VBRO are like Lyft.

On one hand you have most people in PHX not making any more now then they were years ago. On the other hand you have much, much more people moving to phoenix now that the city has been improved a lot. So supply is still low. I think during COVID for like an entire year, maybe more, Maricopa county had 300 people moving in every single day. I'd wager those 800k homes on your street were $450k not too long ago. I don't see RE prices crashing. I think they will drop a little like they are now and stay pretty flat.
