#Algorand Pro-Arguments Below is a Algorand pro-argument written by CreepToeCurrentSea. > Algorand is an open-source, decentralized cryptocurrency and smart contract platform founded by Silvio Micali on 2017. It operates through a Proof of Stake variation called the Pure Proof of Stake. It officially launched it's main network on 2019. It's native token is called ALGO. Algorand is composed of a company and a foundation. The company functions on the core development of the protocol whereas the foundation oversees award funding, cryptographic research, on-chain governance, and decentralization of the Algorand network including nodes. > > # PROs > > **The Founders** > > * The creators/founders of a network/protocol are one of the most important factors influencing its future. The more experience they have in the field, the more likely a project will succeed. Enter Algorand's founders, Silvio Micali and Jing Chen. Micali is an Italian computer scientist and professor at MIT. He is best known for his early work on public-key cryptosystems, pseudorandom functions, digital signatures, oblivious transfer, secure multiparty computation, and is one of the co-inventors of zero-knowledge proofs. Chen is Algorand Inc.'s Chief Scientist and Head of Theory Research. Game theory, mechanism design, distributed ledgers, smart contracts, and algorithms are among her research interests. She is a member of the Computer Science Department at Stony Brook University. She is also associated with the Department of Economics and the Center for Game Theory in Economics. This is just a summary of their experiences, and it demonstrates how serious they are about finding a solution to the blockchain trillemma while also improving the Algorand protocol's unique strengths. > > **The Protocol** > > * As indicated previously in the introduction, Algorand employs PPoS, a variant of the PoS algorithm in which validators of the network are not rewarded and are not at risk of being slashed. It becomes hard for the minority to cheat, and cheating the system would be illogical for the majority because it would devalue their assets. There is also no token locking, thus a user's tokens are always available. Based on this rationale, regardless of the amount of alleged bad actors in the system, it would result in a loss for them while keeping the network safe. > > **Security** > > * Security is essential for a network to run efficiently, safeguard digital assets, and build confidence with other companies/entities. Without this, a network will eventually fail or, worse, be hacked. Algorand divides security into three levels: user security, consensus security, and partition security. > * User-Level Security is primarily concerned with the security of a user's stake. Users will be given a spending key as well as a participation key. The Spending key will be used to sign transactions and spend stakes, whilst the Participation key will be used to propose and confirm blocks. Both these keys are separated with the Participation key being secret and can be stored in cold storage. > * Consensus-Level Security focuses on preventing bad actors from corrupting the network by seizing control of block generation. This is accomplished through the secret and random selection of users to participate in the certification of blocks. The bad actor will be unable to determine which user will generate the block, and by the time the bad actor does, the action will have already been completed. > * Partition-Level Security increases resistance to network partition attacks. The goal of bad actors who do this is to double-spend their money in the network by creating a contradiction of transactions, completely asynchronous the network, and have complete control over who receives which messages and when. This does not happen in the Algorand network because the bad actor cannot deceive the users in the same round with this strategy because the Algorand blockchain will never fork, and all transactions in the network are final. > > **Scalability** > > * Algorand utilises Pure Proof of Stake (PPoS) consensus, in which network validators are not rewarded and are not at risk of being slashed. In contrast to Bitcoin's Proof of Work model, it will not require network participants solving cryptographic puzzles for the production/validation of blocks, resulting in less computation waste. A user only needs to generate and verify signatures and count operations, with the cost based solely on the number of selected users for each block, which is constant and unaffected by the overall network size. As a result, the network would be able to serve millions of users while maintaining a higher TPS and lower computation cost. > > > **Crypto Rating** > > * Algorand received a 2 out of 5 rating from the Crypto Rating Council (CRC) in its Securities Framework Asset Ratings. When an asset appears to have many characteristics that are consistent with the Howey-test factors, it receives a score of 5. When an asset appears to have few characteristics that are consistent with the Howey-test factors, it receives a score of 1. Based on this rating, the SEC will be less likely to rule Algorand as a security. It also helps that both the foundation and the company, Algorand, are committed to decentralized development. > > *Sources:* > [*https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algorand*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algorand) > [*https://doi.org/10.48550/arXiv.1607.01341*](https://doi.org/10.48550/arXiv.1607.01341) > [*https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silvio\_Micali*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silvio_Micali) > [*https://www3.cs.stonybrook.edu\/\~jingchen/*](https://www3.cs.stonybrook.edu\/~jingchen/) > [*https://www.algorand.com/technology/technical-advantages*](https://www.algorand.com/technology/technical-advantages) > [*https://messari.io/asset/algorand/profile/technology*](https://messari.io/asset/algorand/profile/technology) > [*https://www.algorand.com/technology/security*](https://www.algorand.com/technology/security) > [*https://www.algorand.com/technology/scalability*](https://www.algorand.com/technology/scalability) > [*https://www.cryptoratingcouncil.com/asset-ratings*](https://www.cryptoratingcouncil.com/asset-ratings) ***** Would you like to learn more? Interesting way of putting it. It's like, teleportation through space and time. How can you know for sure that where you travel has a safe arrival space. you can't, same with this "address" that was used, it might just be a non existent address. Though I would have assumed that addresses would have a validation code integrated, like the 5 last digits are the CRC for the previous characters...

This is where IMO just like CRC is hand in glove of market manipulation, we sell but you don’t. No transfers of liquidity until they have liquidated the pump all the way down. yea that makes sense i did my stuff back in 13 mind you. a full decade ago. i had a lot of trouble with the miners over heating and then throwing CRC errors. it's hot here and swamp coolers don't work here (something about the humidity). it was purely amateur, but i was able to mind about 0.2 bitcoin a day. but i was selling the coins at market ranging from $100 to around $1k max. the gear was quite inefficient. i had put about $10,000 into all in. i wish now though, that i had just bought $10k in coin. it was fun as hell though.

CRC did the damage to their own token. CRC itself grew as an exchange with high profile advertising and suckering in new users to its loyalty program. It then pulled the rug on its rewards program. It is expensive as fuck too. Much better options out there now and I think they will fade into irrelevance.

>also the whole point of the blockchain is to prevent modifying, reverting & removing data. That seems to be your idea of how it should work. Smart contracts have full control over the data they own and that data can represent anything you want. The blockchain itself just makes sure a contract is executed as intended by verifying the output with other validators on the network. >This is just false. It raise security issues. Links you to potential malware, harder to managed, etc. Maybe your just to young to remeber torrents or limewire. P2P networks often have very little security. Most peer to peer networks have very little security available to protect the information stored on individual terminals or computers P2P networks you describe network don't validate data apart from maybe a local CRC check which is easy to bypass. Someone could have very well sent you an infected executable. In blockchains state is protected by the honest majority, it doesn't matter if a few nodes are dishonest. > So if its too expensive and we agree there are cheaper ways to handle data, how is this going to save money? Because our tech evolves, unless you think we will never make any progress I don't see a reason why we wouldn't eventually have good enough hardware to make it cheap enough. Today we have tons of software that could work much faster but nobody bothers improving it because it's fast enough and our hardware is cheap enough to run mediocre software.

Hey! Good to hear you’re interested in buying crypto but it seems you need to do a lot of research before pouring any more CRC in coins you do not understand. General principle of investing is: Don’t invest in something you do not understand. Is it a good idea to invest in Solana or Dogecoin? That’s something only you can answer yourself. I’d say it’s not the best idea and I wouldn’t do it but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t. Don’t put all of your eggs into one basket though. At the very beginning i’d stick to BTC and ETH until you get more knowledgeable about the crypto space. Don’t Yolo or Fomo your life savings away. Always diversify over different assets, not only crypto and most importantly: Do no leave your coins with the exchange. Learn about setting up your own wallet and transfer your coins to you own wallet otherwise the coins do not belong to you and are in danger of getting lost forever.

So, none of this requires a protocol level of understanding, its really more about things like economics philosophy. There are private accreditation institutions that can evaluate a product for the quality or source of wood you use. ANSI is a private accreditation institution, as opposed to the government ran OSHA accreditation. If you want kosher food, you don't need to know or trust the brand, you don't need to ask the government, you just need to look for a private accreditation institutions stamp of approval like Star-K or CRC. I can understand your frustration with warranty service, often times I don't even sign up because if the product breaks in a year its unlikely I'll even know where I bought it from or what the warranty details are. That being said, get a filing cabinet and reserve some space for that kind of thing. Its also not as if we aren't seeing some progress in this realm, nor is it impossible to place yourself on firmer footing in this regard. I could have bought a home security system off eBay or at bestbuy, instead I went with ring; should anything stop working then its very easy for me to send it back and receive a replacement. I used to hate dealerships, which you might until you start driving a newer luxury car; i find BMWs service to be extremely underrated, they keep track of everything for me, all I do is drop the key at the desk and go to the lounge for free coffee. Dealing with service manuals and the like, again, amazon does a great job with this. Scan that QR code and you can do anything from device setup to warranty replacement. There's no reason you can't just link your tech manual to a QR code; its not a matter of block chain, its a matter of attention to detail. We are still evolving on generating receipts, invoices, etc. I fully agree. Using bitcoin as currency sucks in the US because we haven't fully integrated tax form generation into wallets yet. This isn't an issue with the block chain, this is an issue for companies the likes of exodus to deal with. Whoever creates a better user experience will see more users. Now I'm not saying that just because a system exists doesn't mean we shouldn't come up with something better; obviously ACH exists and obviously we need something better like crypto. What I am saying is, purely from a game theory standpoint, you want incentives to align naturally, rather than trying to create a cumbersome cryptographic proof for all of life's needs. Think long and hard about what elements of 'meatspace' can be mapped into the digital world without forgery. The reason for proof of work is because it maps energy usage into digital space very predictably, and it is unlikely to be cheated through conventional computing means (I'm going to assume here that quantum computers are a pipe dream, but the path to hardening our protocol against quantum mining has been relatively settled since the primordial bitcoin days).

I do feel, honestly, that the "not your keys, not your crypto" is losing a bit of steam, but we aren't there yet :) There are no other options for Bitcoin by the way, it's a PoW chain, you can't stake it, just loan it out.

Yes, you can repeat "not your keys not your coins" like the ones who told you, those guys who "have been in crypto for years"...or you can realize times have changed and exchanges are a lot more safe than half a decade ago. More people lose their coins by forgetting seeds or losing keys. If you get locked out of your account on an exchange, the platform probably has a reason to do so. I'm talking about Coinbase, CRC, Binance,... If you have multiple bitcoin and you're holding, sure go for a hardware wallet. But a couple of hundred/thousand bucks, you're new to crypto? Safe yourself the trouble and use the exchange until you're ready to hold for years.

I'm glad you are not afraid of studying! Life-long learning is a term to be taken seriously🧑‍🎓 If you wanna drop down the bitcoin rabbit hole it will require hours of reading, hours of processing & assessing the information. (Can't forget self-evaluation! It's a pretty moot point to read anything (academic in nature) if one can't learn from it) Ahem... Academics&philosophy aside... Intro: [bitcoin.org](https://bitcoin.org/en/faq#general) is a great site for information. This video: [How bitcoin works under the hood](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lx9zgZCMqXE) is old but explains bitcoin pretty well IMO. I will start with the most important: Security. Satoshi describes three properties for bitcoin in the [whitepaper](https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf) that I think are the building blocks of bitcoin. They are: *Trustless *Decentralized *Peer-to-peer The trustless -property is what relates most to security. Satoshi gave us a way to transact without trust (without a trusted party, i.e. a bank) and the only way to do this is by controlling your own keys. (To transact with the coins personally, to not trust any 3rd party to do the transactions for you (LIKE A BANK)) Now I realize the only way to acquire bitcoins w/o trust is mining them (which is infeasible for many) The next best thing is a decentralized exchange. Making sure to use a personal wallet and keeping that wallet safe is the first most important task! ([Bitcoin wiki](https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Storing_bitcoins) has a good guide) Some heavier reading: *Katz, J., & Lindell, Y. (2020). Introduction to modern cryptography. CRC press. *[lightning network paper](https://lightning.network/lightning-network-paper.pdf) *[bitcoinbook](https://github.com/bitcoinbook/bitcoinbook) first two chapters are introduction *[lnbook](https://github.com/lnbook/lnbook) > I simply want to optimize when I invest in the dips to maximize my investments. I've been reading the stars for some time now 🕵 it seems to be very optimized strategy 🙏 I invested my time to write this down to hopefully educate & ignite the passion for education. As always, you don't have to take my words for it. Study the materials I have linked & make the deductions yourself (And feel free to correct me when I make mistakes) Sorry this was so long... (They usually are😀) TL;DR: Praise satoshi!

Checksum is a math operation applied to some digits to make sure an input is valid. There are several techniques to it, from a simple check digit to CRC to hashsum. [Checksum wikipedia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Checksum) Basically it ensures that if a mistaken was made entering an address it will render an invalid address rather than let it to go through an invalid address.

LRC I agree with (take this with a grain of salt because I'm really into MATIC) but I wish someone would come out with a post on why there is any reason in the world to be bearish on CRO. Full disclosure, CRO makes up about 30% of my portfolio. I'm not new to the crypto space, and I do not think of what I have in CRO as an investment in technology in the same way I would think of my bags of Ethereum or MATIC. Marketing is a real winner in this space, and [Crypto.com](https://Crypto.com) has, by far, and it's really not even close, the best marketing out of any exchange (IN THE USA). You can say "well what about Coinbase" but Coinbase doesn't have Matt Damon, last I checked they don't own the naming rights to the Staples Center, and unless something changes they aren't going to have a Superbowl ad like [Crypto.com](https://Crypto.com) and FTX, AND they don't have sweet metal cards with hella rewards like CRC does. I like stocks and crypto, and I like investing for multiple reasons. Maybe I'm crazy, but the absurd, almost never seen before, exposure that [Crypto.com](https://Crypto.com) alone is going to give the entire crypto space is something we should all appreciate. Aside from Bitcoin hitting crazy all-time highs and making millionaires, I don't see how anything in this space is creating more positive exposure to crypto for the average person than what [Crypto.com](https://Crypto.com) is doing. This exposure is not going to be in the form of targeted ads or random YouTube videos, this is day after day for 20 years of the sportscasters announcing "We are here live from the [Crypto.com](https://Crypto.com) Arena" (or whatever they say, I don't watch sports), Superbowl ads that will be seen by 10+ million people. If there is someone out there with legitimate reasons to be bearish on CRO, please tell me before I wreck myself, because I am really freakin bullish on CRO

Ive been using CB for about a year now with no issues re: purchasing/moving btc. I see a lot of hate on CB re: clearing fiat ACH transfers and understanding how collateral works, but this is an issue with folks not understanding these fundamental bank processes. Fees via CB Pro are very competitive imo CB customer support is definitely non-existent. Their help flows intentionally silo customer issues into only those issues that CB wants to address. Definitely points deducted here CB holding my Algo hostage so that CB doesn’t screw up their commit and rewards collection in a couple weeks is certainly not cool, but now that CB has set a precedence that they are going to do this before every governance period I can manage to that predictability at least. I’ve tried Kraken, which is ok from a CEX standpoint (but certainly wayyyy better than CB in customer service). I think Kraken as a fiat onramp sub-par to CB Pro in fees. Not sure of Kraken shenanigans re: holding customer assets w/o consent at least. Binance certainly has had its poor press. Just this passed Nov 1st Binance stopped all crypto transfers on their platform, while others functioned fine Crypto . Com seems to be getting mixed reviews as well. Being the new kid on the block, they get a honeymoon period of high optimism by the market, and time to see how other CEX’s are pissing their customers off so they can address and market appropriately, but they aren’t our friends either All I see in these CEXs are sheep in wolfs clothing. ☠️ Pick your poison ☠️ For me, better to stick with the devil ya know over the devil ya don’t I don’t keep anymore than 5% of my portfolio on a CRC, and then it’s really only to play the collateral game to move assets around freely and quickly (something a lot of people seem to not understand). The rest goes to a cold storage where my assets are staked, because I do not trust any of these CEXs

I love using my CRC card. I use it fairly often and love getting extra cro frequently. I hold a decent amount of cro and staked for my card but also have a good amount in the DeFi staking at 13.05%. I have read their white paper multiple times, and really like their vision and marketing plans.

I'd be happy to just see CRO listed there, even if it's just in ERC20 form like at Coinbase. Would be even nicer, albeit unlikely, to see them to jump on the Cronos bandwagon and list CRC20 assets.

I looked into the CRC card. I was considering it until I found a better offer (Coinbase - 4%) and ran into issues with their buggy app and high withdrawal fees. Not a fan of CRC at all after my experiences with them. Coinbase is whatever, but I like having their debit card and getting 4% XLM back for every purchase without this weird staking BS.

>There is talk of LRC reaching $250, Mana reaching $500, CRC to $100 etc. Jesus, I have never seen any of these predictions, lol. But still a very valid point OP, newcomers easily fall victim to these excessively-bullish price targets. The Coin Perspective is a great tool.

If inflation goes up we'll be in uncharted territory and I think any certainty about what will happen to crypto should be viewed very skeptically. In terms of CRC's move, top signals never appear bearish in real time. They're signs of irrational exuberance we look back on after a crash has occurred to diagnose the crash. $700 million naming rights deal for a sports arena seems like it'd be a quintessential top signal.

the apr is high because they are just getting started,. if you have the DEFI wallet, you can stake native CRO on it and when they first introduced staking, the apr was like 1000% for the first day and went down over week to its current 12% Just be aware that there is 3 type of CRO ERC-20, Native, CRC-20 each runs on a different chain but they are all bridgable to each other.
