Oracle seems to be in a scary place with its AI investments. I don't recall the numbers. Also, financial news said that Microsoft will cut back on external AI offerings to customers and just use it internally due to cost but not enough revenue. I doubt that either Oracle or MSFT are leveraged using private debt though. Unlike Lehman and ING, Oracle and MSFT still have huge cashflow from operations. I don't know about amount of cash on hand.

Regarding stocks though, are the mag 7 leveraged via private debt at all? Don’t they have a ton of cash and cashflow from operations? Are any of them really at risk of bankruptcy like a lehman or ING?

You're seeing ghosts. The stock market doesn't work like that at all. You seem to be under the impression that the stock market is somehow made by retail investors or that people mostly invest in their own country, but that's not the case, not in any country. The markets, even smaller exchanges like AMS, are far too large and liquid for new tax rules on Dutch retail investors to have any influence. Look up the main holders of AEX ETFs (mostly large institutions), and the main holdings of Dutch retail investors (mostly foreign). That might illustrate the point for you. All Dutch individual investors could sell all of their ING and ASML stock today and the AEX wouldn't lose a single percentage point. This wealth accumulation tax was chosen specifically because it does not give as much market distortion as you would have with a wealth tax or a realised gains tax. In the latter case, people sell near years end for tax loss harvesting.

Work to increase that weekly amount. I’m not sell when there is something urgent to pay for. That’s all personal finance is: spend less, invest more auto. Don’t panic sell. That’s it. LONDON, Feb 23 (Reuters) - The dollar has lost some, but not all, of its safe-haven value since 2024, ING said in note on Monday, adding however, that it saw no broad deterioration in global demand for the US currency. The dollar index shed almost 10% of its value last year, in its worst annual performance since 2017. Erratic U.S. trade policy, U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff threats towards allies and attacks on the Federal Reserve have [weighed on the currency.](https://www.reuters.com/business/buy-america-bye-america-wall-street-exodus-gathers-pace-2026-02-20/) ING said in its report: \* The dollar has lost a chunk of its safe-haven value compared to 2024, when measured by calculating the three-month correlation between the dollar index and U.S. stocks and 10-year Treasuries. \* Private investors, who hold more than 80% of foreign holdings of U.S. assets, remain invested. \* Dollar weakness, at this stage, appears more cyclical than structural. \* There are no signs yet of an acceleration in de-dollarisation, when examining the use of the dollar in global assets, liabilities, market turnover and transactions. \* Fed independence is the cornerstone of global financial stability and if the U.S. central bank were to be seen cutting rates inappropriately, "a run on the dollar" could follow. \* Fall in dollar this year unlikely to match last year's. ING sees euro ending year at $1.22, versus current levels around $1.18

ok, enjoyed reading all these but decided to put it into Gemini to consolidate what is the consensus ..Gemini said I’ve re-scanned the thread and cross-referenced it with the latest February 2026 market updates. While the core "best picks" remain solid, a few new developments and nuances have popped up—especially regarding **MDA Space** and **Rubrik**. Here is what’s new or shifting in the "Big Three" as of today: # 1. MDA Space (MDA.TO / MDALF) * **What’s New:** Just yesterday (Feb 19), MDA launched **49North**, a dedicated subsidiary for Canadian defense. This is a massive shift from being just a "space exploration" company to a "defense infrastructure" play. * **The Buzz:** Morgan Stanley just upgraded them to **Overweight** with a target of **CA$46.00**. They noted that the market overreacted to a canceled contract in late 2025, leaving the stock at a 67% discount compared to its peers. * **2026 Catalyst:** Their Q4 earnings call is set for **March 4, 2026**. Investors are watching to see if their new high-volume manufacturing lines are ready to speed up satellite production. # 2. Rubrik (RBRK) * **What’s New:** The stock has seen a "massive rebound" attempt this month. After dropping from its $97 highs down to the $50 range, institutional interest is building again (ING Groep just opened a new multi-million dollar position). * **The Nuance:** While the company posted a surprise profit in December, they just issued guidance showing **negative EPS for the rest of 2026**. It’s a "show me" story—analysts have lowered some targets from $95 to **$80**, but they still see 40%+ upside if the subscription growth holds. * **Insider Move:** Keep an eye on the CFO, who sold about $1M in stock on Feb 18. In the Reddit-sphere, this often triggers "fear," but analysts are dismissing it as routine. # 3. Linde (LIN) * **What’s New:** Linde is the most stable, but also the most "criticized" for its valuation right now. It reported 28 consecutive quarters of earnings beats, but its 2026 guidance came in slightly *below* what analysts wanted. * **The Consensus:** It’s being called a "quality but pricey" hold. It’s still the best for safety, but if you're looking for the "undervalued" spark the Reddit thread asked for, the excitement has shifted more toward MDA. # The "New" Top 3 Rankings (based on current 2026 momentum): 1. **MDA Space (The Momentum Pick):** The defense launch and the Morgan Stanley upgrade make this the "hot" stock right now. It has the clearest path to a price jump in the next 30 days. 2. **Rubrik (The Value-Growth Pick):** If you believe the $50 level is the "bottom," the risk/reward here is the highest. It’s essentially a 2-for-1 deal compared to its price six months ago. 3. **Linde (The Anchor):** Use this to balance the volatility of the other two. It’s not "undervalued" anymore, but it is "unshakeable."

Whoever replaces Jerome Powell as chairman of the U.S. Federal Reserve in May knows one thing: If they don’t do what President Donald Trump wants, they risk being criminally prosecuted. That was the unambiguous message in Powell’s extraordinary statement yesterday, in which he vowed to continue to set monetary policy independently despite the federal grand jury subpoenas investigating his statements to Congress about alleged cost overruns in the renovation of the Fed’s headquarters. “This new threat is not about my testimony last June or about the renovation of the Federal Reserve buildings. … Those are pretexts. The threat of criminal charges is a consequence of the Federal Reserve setting interest rates based on our best assessment of what will serve the public, rather than following the preferences of the President,” he said. “This is about whether the Fed will be able to continue to set interest rates based on evidence and economic conditions—or whether instead monetary policy will be directed by political pressure or intimidation.” Markets moved back into “Sell America” mode overnight as traders digested the prospect of an incoming Fed chair who lacks independent credibility: The dollar sank 0.32% against a basket of international currencies; the yield on 5-year Treasuries moved sharply up, a sign that investors now regard U.S. government bonds as being suddenly more risky; gold futures—the traditional safe haven—rose 2.21% today to hit a new record high over $4,600 per troy ounce; and S&P 500 futures are down 0.66% this morning prior to the opening bell. Wall Street analysts are almost universally negative about the news. “The combined drop in the dollar, equities and Treasuries was a reminiscence of the ‘sell America’ days of last spring,” ING’s Francesco Pesole told clients this morning. “The downside risks for the dollar from any indications of further determination to interfere with the Fed’s independence are substantial. Again, the bond market will be the most important barometer, both on the short end of the curve if markets price back in more rate cuts, or in the long end with potential stress signs on independence risks. A sharp steepening of the curve could take the dollar on a fall.” At Invesco Asset Management, analyst David Chao told Bloomberg, “The Fed subpoena is another example of how U.S. assets are becoming less attractive … Not only is the U.S. retrenching behind its Fortress America borders, the country is also becoming more predatory.” The subpoenas may also trigger a burst of inflation, according to RBC Capital Markets’ Blake Gwinn. “Markets will start to price in greater inflation expectations, inflation risk premium, and term premium if the Fed’s independence comes under further attack,” he told the Financial Times. “We don’t appear to have hit it yet, but every action is another step closer to it.” Counterintuitively, some analysts think that the investigation now makes near-term interest rate cuts less likely, because Powell and the other members of the Federal Open Markets Committee (FOMC) will be determined to show the markets that they are guided by the data and not legal threats. “The move may also help Fed independence,” UBS’s Paul Donovan said in an email. “Powell’s defiance might signal a reluctance to quit as a Fed governor this year. There are signs the Senate may delay confirming the nomination of a new Fed Chair. Concerns about market reactions and perceptions of institutional independence (in the wake of legal challenges) may become hawkish considerations in setting interest rates.” ING’s Pesole said, “Markets aren’t ready to price in a loss of Fed independence just yet, either on the view that Powell will indeed remain firm in his policy views (as he’s pledged to), the FOMC won’t be heavily affected, or that the DOJ subpoenas aren’t likely to lead to an indictment.” Either way, there’s a real sense of uncertainty among asset managers right now. “The Fed as we have understood it as an institution over the past couple of decades is fading from view. It’s operating in a different environment,” ANZ’s chief economist, Richard Yetsenga, told the FT.

Broadcom inherited over 350,000 VMWare customers, some had extremely reduced prices as they were almost given away by Dell to buy their hardware servers. This is why VMWare had 8 billion in debt and was further ballooning into a debt spiral. Broadcom has no way to support those customers, so they just raised the prices. They did the exact same with CA and Symatec before. If you don't believe this, take a look at Nutanix who is down more than 25% over the last month as they benefited from these problem customers. If VMWare is such a shitshow they wouldn't have been able to get both Walmart and ING Bank on VCF 9.0 recently.

Hmm, AI is slowly going to deflate, but the rest will be shocked down by a catastrophic event. I reckon in 2027, probably a volcano, given the upswing in recent eruptions. Those old enough may recall: "Barings Bank collapsed in 1995 after a single employee, Nick Leeson, caused over $1.3 billion (£827 million) in losses through unauthorized futures and options trading in its Singapore office. The collapse was facilitated by insufficient oversight, poor risk management, and Leeson's ability to hide his losses in a secret account until a major market event, the Kobe earthquake, exposed the extent of the problem. The bank's assets were subsequently sold to [ING Group](https://www.google.com/search?q=ING+Group&oq=Bearings+ban&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqCwgDEAAYChgLGIAEMgYIABBFGDkyBwgBEC4YgAQyEQgCEC4YChgLGMcBGNEDGIAEMgsIAxAAGAoYCxiABDILCAQQABgKGAsYgAQyCwgFEC4YChgLGIAEMgsIBhAuGAoYCxiABDILCAcQABgKGAsYgAQyBwgIEAAYgATSAQoxMDI1NWowajE1qAIIsAIB8QWzAEqCXrkt8PEFswBKgl65LfA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&ved=2ahUKEwjEwL-btKKRAxVMS3ADHQI6JpEQgK4QegYIAQgAEAY)."

You're comparing two totally different things. Voya, formerly ING, is a retirement plan recordkeeper and administrator (they do the annual compliance testing). Their entire system is built to support the unique needs of retirement plan sponsors, keep track of endless contribution sources, loans, distributions etc. As a legacy insurance company, they're also expensive and longing for the days when they ripped huge fees off group annuity contracts, which they do still have on the books. Voya will not beat Schwab in any fee category, as they have a massive administrative and sales force to support with your money. Schwab for decades has been the champion of retail investors, since way back when stock trading was deregulated. Schwab sold off its smaller group retirement plans 20 years ago, and only services a number of larger institutional retirement plans. I love Schwab but if you're seeking "retirement readiness" graphs and stuff, that's not their focus.

You're right. Thankfully there are ***real*** use cases. > If a corporation wanted the tech, they'd just make their own token, they wouldn't buy it from gamblers who inflated the value to trillions of dollars in market cap. And what would be securing their token? The *entire point* of crypto is a decentralized and secure protocol. Reinventing a SQL database with extra steps isn't what makes all of this valuable. > How high do you think it'll go, 100 trillion dollars? Maybe a quadrillion? For something only ever used for gambling? I don't pretend to know unknowables.

Story time… I was trading back on the older ING trading accounts, back when we were still doing $3.99 stock fees in 2007-ish. I had roughly ~$30K I was playing with. Lots of tech stocks and when the crash started to happen in early 2008 I had already pulled out a lot and held liquid so I could leverage up with my margin account. I bought around 17.5K of Nvidia that year around $1.34-1.50 (can’t remember exactly) but it was around $20K total before the reverse split earlier that year. Ended up selling it all for around $2K profit which at the time was great and I was using it as a down payment on a house that had been foreclosed on. Assuming I had kept investing upwards, I’d say most likely I’d have had 30K shares before it really popped up. At that price I would be sitting on $5M+ at this point….hindsight is a bitch lol.

>“Tomorrow’s U.S. CPI report … could prove to be one of the larger events of the summer for markets,” Jim Reid and his team at [Deutsche Bank](https://fortune.com/company/deutsche-bank/) told clients this morning. >If CPI goes up by 0.3% or less, “that is a number that can probably be seen as acceptable for the Federal Reserve to proceed with a September cut (90% priced in), given the backdrop of a significantly weaker jobs market,” ING’s Frantisek Taborsky and Francesco Pesole said in a note this morning. Vanguard developed Europe etf. My Vanguard SP500 year to date is - 5%, Europe one +10%. Next to that I have some dividend focused stock mostly aimed at Europe with ING, NN, BAT, BMW, Unilever, but also some American with IP and O. I don't really do much individual stock picking anymore, so it's mostly about instead of doing 80/20 US/EU now doing more like 60/40 on new money I put in. I'm still positive about the US future in terms of returns, but diversifying a bit more.

you're the same person who, if the employer was able to come up with the contribution amount for all employees - say 200 employees so 100K in late december, made the deposit which resulted in you being over contributed, you'd want to sue the employer because you didn't notice and were penalized. the employer is attempting to GIVE YOU AN F'ING GIFT, the employer set up the rules to eliminate possibly screwing up X number of employee accounts in a simple manner and you're upset because you might lose out on a whopping $500 otherwise allowable contribution. i've implemented employee benefit plans, dealt with disgruntled a-holes who wanted the entire plan centered around what they wanted (every red cent they might be able to get) without regard to the complexity, difficulty, potential issues etc. yes, it's all about YOU --- i'd be looking for your replacement. if something this simple and benign triggers you, there's little doubt even if i modified the plan to make sure you got every nickel, all it would do is free you up to look for the next thing you could complain about

It's surprisingly a lot less common in Europe. Here is an overview for brokers in [Belgium](https://imgur.com/EVt8m57), although some like ING, DeGiro, Revolut, Trade Republic, eToro, interactive Brokers operate the same in other EU countries. Most large banks don't offer it, and even out of the neobrokers not all offer it (for Germany for example, the market leader is split between Trade Republic and Scalable Capital and then some smaller ones, TR offers fractional shares but Scalable Capital does not). Sometimes it differs for trading plans, where they do allow fractional shares, but regular buys they don't.

Economists for Deutsche bank and ING have said that indeed there is now clearly a crisis of confidence in the USD. Does that mean it will collapse right away? Not quite. But it might. It's kind of funny that people in this thread are saying that it's still needed as a reserve currency. The moves of stock, bond and FX markets make clear that that's clearly over, and frankly it's not a completely new phenomenon... after 2008 most central banks already diversified their assets away from USD into a pool of different assets. What's new now is that the USD might be simply dropped from that pool altogether.
