Amazing insight. AMZN back in the day was very much like what you're describing. Their capital investments were always so high that their profits were negative or minimal. We all were just waiting for them to turn off the acquisition tap and then reap the profits... worked really well for them obviously! Probably not a bad idea to keep a toe in and treat TDOC/TALK/GDRX as growth stocks as part of a different strategy.

Thanks. I went with DGX over LH but both are big in the D2C lab market either directly or as backends to other retail lab services. TDOC, TALK, and GDRX are acting like tech companies and buying market share so I expect losses to continue until the market matures and some of the players either exit or are acquired.

You have it wrong. When short selling, your max gain is if the stock goes to zero, and the MOST you can gain is the amount you sold short. If you short a stock, you will eventually have to buy it back. If the stock triples, you owe three times as much money as you sold short. You have potentially unlimited losses if the stock goes way up. You will be paying interest on the stock you shorted until you return it. Put options have a max loss of the price you paid for the put. If it goes to zero you lose it all. Put options also have the max gain of the strike price x100 shares. If you buy a 50$ strike put options and the stock goes to 0, your option is worth 50x100 or 5000 dollars. If you buy a 50$ strike put options and the stock price moves even a penny above 50$, then your option will be worth 0 at expiration. Seriously don't fuck up your retirement. Basically everyone here will tell you this is a bad idea. You cannot replace your losses, so they permanent set you back. Your tax advantages accounts are not fuck around accounts. Play around in a taxable account, and you will eventually learn that options are for professionals. There are certain ways to use them and you do NOT have a clue what those strategies are. How much money you lose before learning this lesson will be up to you. DONT DO THIS IN YOUR RETIREMENT ACCOUNT, TALK TO A PROFESSIONAL AND THEY WILL REPEAT THIS ADVICE.
