Unfortunately nowadays Lisbon is not made for Portuguese but for foreigners with money, it'll surely crash, if you ever visit Lisbon make sure to visit the outskirts to see how real portuguese people live nowadays, I've seen a bed in a room of 5 being rented for 190€ a month, A BED ! the house had 7 in total, 1 bathroom and one kitchen... yeah ... the housing market along with everything else is really making it impossible to stay here, 11/12 million population, 2 million+ living abroad (I think it counts with direct descendents tho) it's getting ridiculous, this is an easy get european papers country for many. I like to look at how much the project is earning through revenues vs their costs. Costs are how much the token is inflating (ie costs are socialized by token holders). What do blockchains do? They sell blockspace! https://cryptofees.info/ How do they do it? By printing money! https://moneyprinter.info/ Some projects like Solana inflate by over $3M per day and make $60k in income. I have no clue how they plan to make profit. The low-fees you pay today are just subsidized by any late-comers who will have to pay their fee plus yours. Except this is tech so those people will use another new no-fee chain, so I'm back to I don't know how they plan to make money. *Number go up* isn't good enough for me to invest into, at least work some ponzinomics in like Bitcoin did and maybe. I'm very keen on Ethereum's L2 ecosystem as none of those tokens will necessarily inflate. Their total costs will be some >1% of their earnings. The APR will be real and *not nominal* like every other coin or token (not like the market seems to care about that). All they have to do is come up with enough gas fees for 1 transaction and they can keep the profit from the 1000 they've compressed (like selling shovels in a gold rush), which is drastically cheaper than running an entire (secure) L1 could ever be. L2 is meant to be the value accrual mechanism for Ethereum. In another ~5 years normal people won't transact on L1 at all, it will be too full of L2 'proofs' to realistically afford. I figure the next bull run people will have the pick from expensive L1 or cheap L2 or free L3 (which are all interopable) instead of L1, a more centralized L1, or Binance, which relies on sketchy and expensive bridges. And when they go to mint an NFT instead of it asking for $55 it'll be *free* (+1% commission on first sale), and people will be happy spending their crypto instead of whining about cost. Another thing I keep a close eye on are how many cycles has this coin survived? If you look, a coin's second cycle outperforms the first, *even if the tech is worse than its competition* on a first cycle. Polkadot comes to mind, very interesting project with great minds, and down 90% or something since this was its first cycle. If it survives into the next bull market I fully expect it to outperform its first cycle, even if something like-it and better comes out by then. If it makes it to a *third* cycle, oh boy, all in. After looking at what people do use I look at what people enjoy using. People love Cosmos, it's just an absolutely awful investment - and Ethereum is an amazing investment, but people hate using it. I imagine both will steal ideas from the other to form a sort of symbiotic network, eventually, since the communities are so aligned. For that reason I'm hopeful on both, since those things can be worked on now - the hard part is done. It's much harder to find a use case for your tech after the fact - so many projects build out only to achieve no community or apps, to rebrand and try their luck next time (so many successful projects now are in their like 3-5th try using the same tech, new name, and why a second or third cycle means so much to serious investors). If people enjoy using it, they'll support it, and half the job is done. I dislike Cardano for so many reasons but they have a (culty) community that can be used to accomplish serious ambitions, so I'm sure the apps will come later - but then I have to take a look at how much fees need to be by then to sustain the network, and if they're too high I know people won't enjoy it later as much as now, so it pokes holes into that thesis (like Bitcoin and its necessary $100-1000 fees in a decade or few). There are very few coins that I'm interested in. There are also a bunch of index-like funds for crypto if you want to set and forget, but they're better to have in bull markets more than bear markets. Throwing into an auto adjusting top50 might do better than picking and choosing based on any fundamentals, which only make you more attached + emotional. I'm sure no one here thought meme coins would've made it to the top10 or invested in them as if, despite them being the best play last year. There's Metaverse indexes, the BED-index is 33/33/33 Bitcoin, Ethereum, and DeFi, etc. Rising tides lifts all ships, but one bad decision can send a coin or token to $0, so it's important to diversify - the more mature this space gets the more sense that'll make. I consider ETH as an index since the fee-burn (whenever someone buys a dog token ETH is worth more) but it's not ideal. I hope in another 5-10 years we have better options for it since I'm constantly facing your dilemma and it takes up all my time.

I'm involved in a couple of DAOs (Bankless and DAOPunks) and I think what makes it appealing is the same as any collaborative project, it feels exciting to be working on things as part of a community. Since I've been involved in the Bankless DAO they have rolled out the BED index (a crypto index fund consisting of BTC, ETH and DPI), built relationships with loads of other DAOs, funded the creation of DAOPunks (a project based around helping people transition to working full-time for DAOs and exiting the corporate employment), and made lots of progress with their grand educational project - Bankless Academy. I've most enjoyed working through governance options, and love bouncing ideas around with other interested members.

Any thoughts on TCAP, which is completely agnostic since it represents the total market cap. Basically its just a bet that crypto as a whole will go up over time. (Personally I'm a bit too afraid of a dotcom crash to do that currently. Might DCA after gas is reasonable / they offer on layer 2s or CEXs)

Completely agree. For new people to crypto my advice is always to just buy the Bankless BED index, it's 1/3 Bitcoin, 1/3 Ether and 1/3 DPI, basically gives you exposure to all the best/most reliable parts of crypto in one token.
I like to call it the BED index,
as we all now here, crypto-trading is not easy, but everybody can do it with some easy rules: -use only what you can aford to loose (can't stress this out enought, but probably the most important) -don't use or limit leverage to 3x so you are not very much exposed to much risk -know your risk margin: don't trade all the money all at once, but put 2-5% stop loss on your capital (always use stop-loss, take profit not so important, but stop loss can preventing you from going bankrupt) -as soon as the trade goes agains you, exit the trade: 80% of peoples loose money with trading, not because their stupid, but because they have HOPE in market. on this point -never have feelings in the trading, because market does not care care about you -NEVER PHON WITH YOU WHEN YOU GO TO BED. there are certainly som other things that i haven't consider but this are the most important. take care
