From a thread in the lightning network sub. Doesn't seem to be an issue. I'm in the USA. I am an accountant. I run a node. There are only two transactions to think about re: tax when operating a routing node: opening & closing. So yes, only these are relevant for US taxes. Everything else that occurs on lightning in your node's channels is irrelevant. The channel itself, once opened, never changes its size. There's an advanced function available to splice in more liquidity, but talking about just the basic facts, no. You could use LOOP in or out to adjust liquidity, never changing the original channel capacity. LOOP is on-chain, so it would be a taxable event & expensive. You'd report the high LOOP fees as an expense. As far as transactions occurring on your node, you would not report them. They do not create a taxable event in the USA since no buy/sell happens. Your node's liquidity in a channel moves from side to side (if you're lucky). The IRS doesn't care until you move it on-chain. Fees "earned" adjust channel liquidity only. Until you close a channel using an on-chain transaction, they are part of your original funding event. Once you close a channel, fees earned will offset the high closing fees.

Your balance on an exchange is just a number in a DB. They don't hold UTXOs for each purchase in segregated cold storage just for you. When you withdraw, it's 1 transactional and you get 1 utxo, then they just deduct that amount from your balance in their DB. If you use an exchange that supports lighting, like Strike, River, or, Cash App, they are simply routing your funds over their existing lightning channels, which are themselves just a 2-of-2 multisig transaction (more complex than that as you have a funding TX and a series of commitment transactions that update state off chain). When withdrawing over lightning, you still have never been directly exposed to a UTXO, unless you're using a noncustodoal Ln node that you've used to open channels with your own personal funds. If using your own channels, you would either have to close that channel, which returns your side of the channel balance to your LN node's hot wallet, at which point you could transfer to your cold storage in a single TX or as many txs as you want to break it up into. For each TX to your cold storage, you will have 1 UTXO. The other option would be to use a loop out service, like Lightning Lab's LOOP service, which is a noncustodoal service to swap between ln and onchain. If you use a custodial wallet that supports both Ln and onchain and where you don't manage channel balances yourself, you could just send your balance to an onchain address from the wallet. Again, you could send the entire balance and have 1 UTXO or you could send smaller parts of the balance in multiple transactions and you'd have a utxo for each.

I really don't think NFTs are death, only those NFTs with no use cases and potentials could be regarded as death and forgotten, some NFTs like Tradoos NFTs and the likes of others which can be staked to earn LOOP tokens are still doing well and will last the test of time because of its unique utilities, so never generalize it.

bluewallet has hosted-by-them lightning wallet you have to trust so channel is outside your control by default (unless you connected your own LN node) most popular cross layer atomic swaps (called submarine swaps) are probably LOOP (need client for this) and Boltz [https://boltz.exchange/](https://boltz.exchange/) and then there are trust requiring wallets that let you withdraw on whichever layer - wallet of satoshi is one, coinos another (often low on on-chain liquidity for now). breez wallet is self-custodial and has boltz integrated and used automatically when you send to on-chain address. I think Phoenix wallet uses loop or maybe their own submarine swaps. Muun wallet uses also their own submarine swap method I believe. Guys, bagholding anything long term in the downtrend can crush your capital. It’s the same as the stock market. Get out of losers quick, and move into the upstream. Do not sit and wait with money going down. Always try to be in the upstream. Look into the CAN SLIM method. Take out the C, A, and I (Current quarterly earnings, Annual earnings growth, Institutional sponsorship) as those don’t apply to Crypto, but take the rest and run with it. I’ve thrown away tens of thousands of dollars being stubborn and waiting for a down trending chart to turn around. It’s not advisable. It hurts. Be nimble. Go with the flow. MATIC undoubtedly is a giant on its own. A lot of projects saw it as an easy way of escape from the ridiculous fees on Ethereum. There are also some other project doing almost same thing in a totally different way. I came across Nahmii, another L2 solution also on Ethereum that introduces State Pools, a patent pending technology that provides everyone with the right tools to build solutions easily on Ethereum at scale. Another popular one is LOOP and it is becoming almost like a trend

Much changes since then, but in general terms I made very similar discoveries all over the way. Since I managed to get node fees automated -charging sensible rates- the node routing rate is growing every day. In less than 45 days of operation it has forwarded \~400 Tx for a total of \~0.8BTC. My LOOP experience was similar, by mistake I matched LOOP fees at channel opening, making around 18ksats of fees in less than 1h in a buch of Tx from every single other channel to loop, then channel force closed when all was drained.. Didn't try again, but I guess I will when I need to loop in again. I found loopd (looping out) + joining triangles the best way to get inbound up, also paying LNBig or others as pointed in the article could be a nice option. Most of channels I opened with 1 or 2 sat/vB, so onchain fees has been the less of the problem when dealing with fees. BUT, fees on LN can be very tricky to understand and much higher than onchain in certain situations if you are not careful. Lopp points out well that some nodes are basically oversizing the fees, for most of the times is not a big issue, it could be a temporary high fee to limit traffic thorugh your channel when unbalanced, or it could be that we are in a phase were a lot of people are trying to see who baits for high fees ;), or just a market where it make sense to pay that much,.... just observe and be careful and do not overpay on fees, sometimes is just a matter of patience to get your Tx/rebalance/loop done with better conditions (fees) just by waiting a bit of time. Looking fwd to more insights and findings from all of you LN OPs

Good point. Economy at its barebones is just the process of individuals buying and selling goods/services with lendors and debtors being matched up. GDP is just a number that doesn't encapsulate the inner working of an economy I definitely won't disagree that if no one spent their money, an economy would immediately tank. Goods/services need to be supplied to meet demand and these transactions need to occur in a modern society to maintain our way of life. I just question where some of this increased spending is unfortunately occurring and the true nature of productivity due to this increased spending. Which is where my thought process was that inflation will artificially spur industries into success that should have not existed in the first place (like a plain bad product or poor management, like many of the dot-com bubble businesses). As an aside: I think Robinhood made it easier to increase spending/investing (good thing), but also easier to finance companies with little to no tangible value being provided to the economy (bad thing). So I don't know if the end justifies the means, sometimes I guess my misunderstanding was that inflation isn't always equivalent to real growth. For inflation to work, I agree that real growth needs to occur as well. There are unfortunately malinvestments that can divert monetary effort in the scheme of fake production and fake growth reports. Malinvestments are badly allocated business investments, due to artificially low cost of credit and an unsustainable increase in money supply. If you're an Austrian Economist, then Central banks were to blame for causing malinvestments, such as the dot-com bubble, and the United States housing bubble. These malinvestments still occur today, and can be exemplified by the [reports of Hindenburg Research](https://hindenburgresearch.com/). NKLA and LOOP are interesting examples, luckily NKLA had GM to help. So I guess I just am not certain that increased spending also means increased production and productivity if investor's money is not actually producing anything tangible Which I will concede that these malinvestments will ultimately not last due to their self-described nature... but the effect of an industry of malinvestments (electric car start ups are big today, plastic recycling start up groups, new crypto coins every day, etc.) which could be attributed to increased, unintelligent spending encouraged or spurred by inflation that can prop up an economy without tangible, real value. Let me know your thoughts though

Why discuss this if you won’t read the entirety of responses I don’t disagree that BTC is only a better store of value than the dollar if it can prove to be more valuable than the network costs. Which is what that Harvard Business Review article discusses as well. So there’s persons in the world benefiting from bitcoin due to its financial freedoms and therefore its worthwhile to them. Because you don’t use bitcoin, you find it not worthwhile. Two opposite spectrums. Money/currency is literally, by definition, required to be a store of value you can even wiki that. How can lower income folk meaningfully invest in a true store of value if their cash can’t store long term value? The idea is to have a money format that doesn’t even need to be invested so that you *can* just store value in your savings. You assume people can just throw money into investments and aren’t living paycheck to paycheck BTC is in no way a stock lol. It may be an “asset” at the closest equivalence. It seems you prefer to place the trust of your investments into an entity/corporation and its likely said entity/corporation has self-interested motives. Bitcoin removes human failure because humans are emotional, political and knee-jerking idiots. Companies, especially the corrupt CEOs, don’t give a damn about you, the retail investor. Stocks can be just as risky without detailed due diligence prior to investing—which the average Joe does not do and are not making wise investments. Look at NKLA or LOOP where the founders amass outside investments but don’t even have an actual working product. Look up Hindenburg report for constant scam companies that spike in price on these lofty promises made to investors... seems like a good deal at the moment when it’s going up but the underlying foundation of the asset is cracked and can’t sustain the lies forever. NKLA and LOOP especially So it would follow that similarly, a cryptocurrency without a strong underlying economic protocol, can’t sustain its price forever as well. I’m simply trying to explain why dogecoin doesn’t fill the role of long term investment strategy. Short term... even a monkey can make money during alt season. I'm not sure what you're getting at.. with a RasPi node, you would still need to swap out your sats if you want them onchain, so you;d have to use LOOP or something else like that. Although, if one feel confident about the node security and backup plan, you could just keep your sats in the channels and not move them onchain at all.

I could either close a channel (not very efficient) or use a swap out service (LOOP, or Phoenix etc). Not sure how much I'd pay for that as I never needed to do this yet, probably <10,000 sats? Compare : * Onchain: 12 withdrawals from Kraken in a year (monthly): 180,000 sats * LN: 12 LN withdrawals (12 sats) + swap out (10,000 sats), and let's add creating a brand new LN wallet with Phoenix and paying the initial channel creation with inbound liquiduty (1000 sats) = c. 11,000 sats.

XLM is still around, so that clearly isn't a scam. LOOP, same deal. These coins never had bot account shilling their rug pulls. XRP slowly built up to $2, same with XLM.
