Definitely, it’s incredible how everyone around me talks about the fake media but, mention crypto, NBC, CBS, FOX etc, immediately turn from fake fiction to facts. I like your your simple and effective description of what Bitcoin is. Hopefully, it will help me get a few people to put a foot where it needs to be. I know this wasn’t in the question but, some good advice here: try not to talk about Bitcoin or cryptocurrency trading to any of your friends, peers, or family that don’t give much thought to crypto or their finances. Your just going to be meet with resistance and you might hear judgements people you love. So, “Don’t drop pearls before swine.”

>Reducing gas flaring emissions. Bullshit. This is a charming theory, but it has as much a basis in reality as “the hydrogen economy.” Flares aren't being capped en masse, and most big mining facilities are being built near coal and natgas generation facilities on the verge of closing, or in areas where they can take advantage of cheap fossil fuel resources. * [NPR: Research shows oil field flaring emits nearly five times more methane than expected](https://www.npr.org/2022/09/29/1125894105/oil-field-flaring-methane-report) * [Inform: North Dakota’s gas flaring rate 7 times higher than next-highest state, study finds](https://www.inforum.com/news/north-dakota/north-dakotas-gas-flaring-rate-7-times-higher-than-next-highest-state-study-finds) * [Fortune/Associated Press: New Mexico fines oil company $40 million for burning off massive amounts of natural gas](https://fortune.com/2023/06/30/new-mexico-fines-oil-company-ameredev-40-million-burning-off-natural-gas/) Flares energy is not being recaptured, at least not in any significant way. * [WGRZ: Bitcoin mining company closes in on purchase of North Tonawanda power plant](https://www.wgrz.com/article/money/business/bitcoin-mining-company-closing-in-on-purchase-of-north-tonawanda-power-plant/71-649a97f5-38e7-4868-89fd-cc0c33c0fb11) * [State impact/NPR: Pa. lawmakers examine cryptocurrency’s waste coal use](https://stateimpact.npr.org/pennsylvania/2023/05/10/pa-lawmakers-cryptocurrency-waste-coal/) * [WOLF: Environmental Groups Voice Concerns about Local Crypto Mining Plant](https://fox56.com/news/local/environmental-groups-voice-concerns-about-local-crypto-mining-plant) — “The Panther Creek power plant is a waste coal fired power plant located in Carbon county. Okay, lets unpack all this. I checked everyone of these examples that you so quickly found. [https://twitter.com/li53726697/status/1679158626609512450](https://twitter.com/li53726697/status/1679158626609512450) Seen the episode, its good. This refers to Sesame's social ranking system. It was a pilot that was carried out several cities, with different versions. From my understanding it has not gone over well and is optional. (care to check out this link below?) [https://www.ns-businesshub.com/transport/china-sesame-credit/](https://www.ns-businesshub.com/transport/china-sesame-credit/) [https://twitter.com/li53726697/status/1679158626609512450](https://twitter.com/li53726697/status/1679158626609512450) same link [https://twitter.com/man\_1959/status/1677764730591608837](https://twitter.com/man_1959/status/1677764730591608837) Interesting, but is this at an organization, maybe higher security? little context to go off of. Face recognition robots and tech are not cool. But are they being used in the "Social Credit" scoring system and how can we prove it? [https://twitter.com/Watchmanpubl/status/1678803646937546752](https://twitter.com/Watchmanpubl/status/1678803646937546752) This account is posting videos showing people using their ID card or possibly in line to get an ID card registered. that's it. not examples of being denied entry somewhere. The caption suggests it's happening though. (im dissapointed) [https://twitter.com/SDPhq/status/1677928068323614720](https://twitter.com/SDPhq/status/1677928068323614720) I agree big banking has too much control. But they are referencing the chinese social credit system and provide no information about it. Social Credit is getting used as a blanket term, but this article is specifically referring to the financial credit system which mostly affects businesses. (the video link i provided you in my previous comment explains this) [https://twitter.com/dpgrenon/status/1679118291095154688](https://twitter.com/dpgrenon/status/1679118291095154688) I wont claim to know much about Klaus and he may be interested in a unified government. We already see this with Nato. Not that i approve of those in power or their agenda, but that isn't the point of this. it's about the truth regarding China's social credit score of which this post has nothing other than someone's opinion. (Flyboy appears to me as someone who is [https://twitter.com/milehijules/status/1677138331711455232](https://twitter.com/milehijules/status/1677138331711455232) Klaus again. Not surprising, and these twitters accounts are running in the same circles, and you've linked multiple of them as a legitimate individual sources. This Sesame credit system from what i understand is optional, and carried out in a few cities and is not across all of China. May be changing in the future. i cant seem to find current information on how it is being used. [https://twitter.com/CJordanjb/status/1678687607167803393](https://twitter.com/CJordanjb/status/1678687607167803393) This is someone's opinion and linked is one of your previous links. How is anyone who doesnt speak chinese supposed to have any context for this video? Should i simply let the caption control the narritive here? Wouldn't be much of a critical thinker if I did that. [https://twitter.com/TansuYegen/status/1676221505091387392](https://twitter.com/TansuYegen/status/1676221505091387392) interesting. i did a search on "ALIPAY", the tech used in the video, and they actually have a facial recognition tech that can be used in machines like this one to provide faster service. I provided a 2 links below. [https://www.biometricupdate.com/201901/new-alipay-facial-recognition-payment-system-broadly-deployed-to-historic-shopping-street](https://www.biometricupdate.com/201901/new-alipay-facial-recognition-payment-system-broadly-deployed-to-historic-shopping-street) [https://www.ecns.cn/news/cns-wire/2019-01-17/detail-ifzcuekn4077227.shtml](https://www.ecns.cn/news/cns-wire/2019-01-17/detail-ifzcuekn4077227.shtml) I dont see this being linked to a "Social Credit" system. Am i a chinese agent? haha, no. i am interested in the truth and sick of conspiracy theorists regurgitating misinformation. None of your sources are actual evidence besides the NBC nightly new one and they didnt tell the whole story. I dont care for China. I am not pro Gov. I am anti shit bias news and media and want to know the truth. And it appears the Orwellian 1984 China social story is mostly bullshit thus far.

tldr; House Republicans have reached a tentative deal with the White House to address the nation's debt ceiling and avoid a catastrophic default on U.S. sovereign debt. The contours of the agreement will be relayed to GOP members on an all-member call happening shortly. A senior democratic aide familiar with negotiations told NBC News a deal is "very close" and could be announced as soon as tonight or tomorrow morning. The deal comes after more than a week of urgent talks between negotiators for the White House and House Republicans. It also marks the start of a lobbying blitz by House and Senate leaders in both parties to convince their members to vote for the package, which will need to win enough votes in the GOP-controlled House and Democratic-held Senate to raise the U.S. debt ceiling in time to meet a June 5 deadline. *This summary is auto generated by a bot and not meant to replace reading the original article. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/house-republicans-attack-biden-family-alleging-foreign-business-rcna83693 > Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., sent a memorandum Wednesday morning to Republican members of the panel, which is investigating the finances of the Biden family, about what he described as information the committee had recently received from subpoenas from four banks. The memo said the subpoenas were “tailored to specific individuals and companies that engaged in business activities with Biden family members and their business associates.” It does not detail a specific allegation of a crime committed by the president’s family. The memo provides limited details about the allegations of the Biden family’s business dealings with foreign nationals. It alleges that the Biden family’s and associates’ activities in Romania “bear clear indicia of a scheme to peddle influence from 2015 to 2017,” saying that while Biden was vice president, his son Hunter, through an associate, received more than $1 million from a company controlled by a Romanian official accused of corruption. NBC News has reported that in 2016 Hunter Biden provided legal advice to a Romanian businessman charged with real estate fraud. There is no evidence that Hunter Biden or his father acted improperly or violated any laws.

Here is the whole article about this computer glitch: A critical Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) system has suffered a glitch, grounding flights across the US according to media reports. The FAA posted an advisory notice early Wednesday which notes that the United States NOTAM (Notice to Air Mission) system has “failed” and that engineers are working to bring it back online. “The FAA is working to restore its Notice to Air Missions System,” the FAA said in a statement. “We are performing final validation checks and repopulating the system now. Operations across the National Airspace System are affected.” It added that it will provide “frequent updates” as work progresses. NOTAM is a critical system that keeps pilots and other flight personnel informed of the status of airports across the country, Reuters reports. It can offer information on runway closures, bird hazards, and other obstacles. NBC News reports that the system failure has forced all flights across the US to be grounded, delaying over 700 flights and causing almost 100 to be cancelled. Sure enough, reports are popping up on Twitter of flights being delayed due to the outage. Former US Chief Data Scientist DJ Patel tweeted that he was “stranded” due to a nationwide outage at 4AM ET. Another user tweeted from Paris, France’s Charles de Gaulle airport to say they’d been told that no flights are currently going to the US. link: https://www.theverge.com/2023/1/11/23549834/usa-flights-grounded-faa-computer-glitch

I can see things that would make me not want to buy tokens but not things that would make me think crypto is over with. I've used it and done things with it and seen how much better it is at certain tasks. People should recognize that it's only in today's time that people feel like the internet was inevitable and obvious and had immediate use cases. You can find clips on YouTube of David Letterman, the Today Show, and tons of 1990s content where people were laughing at the internet. Someone says I can send a letter instantly and the response was *I like walking to the mailbox and seeing what surprises are there* or *I like the anticipation that comes with waiting days to weeks for a letter to arrive and be responded to*. *Why would I read an article on a computer when I could walk down to the local library or coffee shop and buy a newspaper? I wouldn't even need to buy a computer!* and the audience erupts in cheers and applause. The Today Show was making fun of how hard it was to remember "todayshow@nbc.com" and then posted up "The Today Show c/o NBC Studios, 123 Some New York Street, New York, New York 12345" like this was a much simpler of way of contacting them. I say to say that something as massive and game changing as the internet had obvious use cases and benefits from the get go and people just pretended that they didn't. Or they we're making the case that speed and efficiency were dumb and waiting days to weeks or having to drive all over town just to do what you could do from home was a better experience. IMO that's crypto today. Someone made a thread a few days ago arguing that they enjoyed having to pay 40 euros to send money around so crypto had no point. > Forks that split most of the top networks, which dilutes the value of each chain. I’m thinking multiple forks in **BTC, ETH**, ADA, DOT, LINK, ATOM, etc where the nodes have a 50/50 split multiple times, so there’s essentially 4+ chains of BTC/ETH/ADA/DOT/etc. This has already happened for the bolded tokens.

tl;dr “Much of the crypto industry has deviated from the principles that were critical to the development of Bitcoin itself. The creation of Bitcoin was not a random discovery, but rather the product of decades of discussion and development by a group of people known as the cypherpunks. The modern crypto industry, however, doesn’t necessarily share the same vision that motivated the creation of Bitcoin. These new projects don’t set out to solve the practical problems that motivated the cypherpunks. What is commonly known as crypto is clearly distinct from both the cypherpunk vision that motivated the creation of Bitcoin and from the developments in and around Bitcoin itself over the last decade. Whereas Bitcoin was created to be a censorship-resistant, trustless digital form of money, crypto has become a space dominated by get-rich-quick-schemes. Whatever this crypto industry is, most Bitcoin and Bitcoiners want no part of it.” A shocking level of knowledge about bitcoin and the industry for a mainstream economics professor. I won’t refute everything that’s being said but here’s 2 of my initial thoughts based on your list. 1. IIRC, It was due to a daily withdrawal limit, Kris had to request that Gate.IO increase the daily limit. CDC did not send it to a Gate.IO account and have to request that they send it back (as it was falsely reported initially.) 2. “The $700 million that Crypto.com is paying is certainly a headline-grabbing figure, averaging $35 million annually. Pokrywczynski contrasted that annual cost to NBC charging $6 million for 30 seconds of commercial airtime in the upcoming Super Bowl LVI at L.A.’s Sofi Stadium in February.” https://theathletic.com/2995939/2021/12/06/why-crypto-com-made-a-700-million-bet-to-rename-staples-center-and-doesnt-even-expect-you-to-use-the-name/?amp=1 The advertising is not all in a lump sum, I agree if they paid 700M up front for the Arena that would be skeptical. I believe that Kris also talked about this in his AMA. The Arena deal comes out to less than 10% of their annual income. I don’t remember Kris giving a $$ amount, however the article above puts it at around $35M annually. Finally I will end with, I think the spread on CDC app is really bad, we definitely pay more in fees than anywhere else I’ve tried. That being said, I joined for the card rewards, I still enjoy the card rewards even though they’ve been cut down to size. To each their own I guess. The companies that the government are supposedly tasked with overseeing are the same companies that donate millions of dollars to politicians. And not just any politicians - most large corporations donate money to ALL the politicians - making sure to keep them all happy and in their pocket. There are tons of companies we could look, I'll use United Healthcare or Comcast/Xfinity even though they aren't SEC related. Comcast literally had to change its name because it was so awful and now is a massive monopoly that owes NBC. When you get to a point where you have enough money - you can do whatever you want - no repercussions. I complained about Comcast to one of their agents and they disconnected my internet and put a block on it. No joke. Just for saying I was unhappy with something they did. I was totally current on my bill. I filed an FCC complaint for the retaliation which was an absolute joke, but not as ridiculous as the response from Comcast regarding why the agent disconnected my internet. I swear - in my old age I just refuse to be abused by corporations, but then I realize there is nothing I can do - they have all the power. Poor Ripple just doesn't have the clout yet to get the wolves off of them. There are so many more companies that need to be looked at than Ripple, but this is who the gov waste their limited time and resources on. I'm so fed up, but this shit is never gonna change.

This story ran on NBC News last night and it covers the negative impacts of illegal gold mining in South America. Massive resources are being dedicated to repairing the damage of gold mining (including deforestation, water contamination, and carbon emissions). Bitcoin is constantly attacked by an ESG narrative. One key defense of bitcoin is that it can be mined in sustainable and environmentally friendly ways. Traditional gold mining is often much worse for the environment. This story includes examples of fossil fuels, contaminating substances and human military capital being used for the purpose of mining and/or preventing illegal mining from occurring. Looking to the future, Bitcoin can deliver a more sustainable and environmentally friendly store of value to our planet. Energy costs certainly exist, but they are worth it for the benefits delivered by bitcoin.

>Like I said all the racists switched sides in the 60's. This is well known. You're talking about shit that happened a hundred years ago! Dude, who burned down black businesses, looted black-owned stores, burned down black neighborhoods and shot black cops in the summer of 2020? If you DYOR, you would see that the Democrats have been the party of Big Business for decades, but you can't face the fact. The New York Freaking Times agrees that it is. WTF? The man in the White House right now was proud to be endorsed by segregationists. This is well-kown. WTF? This is **FREAKING NBC NEWS** reporting on that fact. "**Joe Biden didn't just compromise with segregationists. He fought for their cause in schools, experts say.** Joe Biden helped give America the language that is still used to oppose school integration today, legislative and education history experts say." [https://www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/joe-biden-didn-t-just-compromise-segregationists-he-fought-their-n1021626](https://www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/joe-biden-didn-t-just-compromise-segregationists-he-fought-their-n1021626) **Kamala Harris used California minority prisoners as slave labor** (which is allowed by the 14th Amendment, go figure) and her office actually tried to keep prisoners in jail AFTER their sentences were completed so they could get more slave labor out of them. "California incarcerates more people than entire nations, and Black, Indigenous, and Latinx people make up the majority of those behind bars. California depends on its huge prison population to help fight wildfires, and Harris’ office was a major proponent of the incarcerated wildland firefighting program during her time as state attorney general." [https://gizmodo.com/the-climate-danger-of-kamala-harris-prison-labor-legac-1844712734](https://gizmodo.com/the-climate-danger-of-kamala-harris-prison-labor-legac-1844712734) The **Democrats had a KKK Kleagle** as a senator right through the 1990s. DYOR. As for racial disparities, you don't understand what is going on. The question isn't race, **it is family structure.** Subgroups that maintain stable family structures vote Republican, subgroups that have looser family structures vote Democrat. That means Republicans get a larger share of Hispanic voters than Democrats do, while Democrats get more blacks than Republicans do. Race is a fake correlation - it's family structure that drives the difference: "Since the end of the 1960s, their SDT variable predicts presidential elections with increasing power. By the time we get to the election of George W. Bush in 2000, election outcomes can be almost completely explained by their SDT variable. In plain English this means that, in America, the type of family structure that a person belongs to massively predicts which way he or she will vote. If an individual is part of a family unit that postpones marriage, cohabits and has few children, he or she will probably vote Democrat. If a person is part of a more conventional nuclear family unit, he or she will probably vote Republican." Anybody watch NBC news on Snapchat ? They did a bit where one of their employees went to El Salvador to see how common Bitcoin was for businesses. Said only 14% of country actually using it. The story frames BTC to be usesless, that’s how I interpreted the story. Said there was long wait times and double charges and slow transaction times. Makes me think they published this story to make it seem like btc is pointless.

When NBC news is shilling a behavior it's usually a great time to do the opposite. That said, I do believe the market is in a place where it's much more likely to go down further. What am I doing? (not financial advice) 1. Holding Bitcoin. 2. Very modest DCA twice a week. 3. Limit orders to buy sizable chunks at 22.5k and 19.5k. 4. Building cash waiting for a clear sign to start making larger bets. But idk lol

Well. I’m not sure how else to convince you. I’m freelance and don’t have an nbcuni email and I’m not going to post my work ID or anything. I suppose you could search any official NBC news article, maybe something Carlos has written himself, scroll to the bottom where writers names are posted and click the email button. It should pull up an address like this “firstname.lastname@nbcuni.com”

Its disingenuous, he is pretending to be nice. u/carlospbeltran already knows the story he needs to sell to NBC. I mentioned that the entire Bitcoin network uses 0.5% of the worlds energy consumption while Youtube uses 5x that, he immediately downvoted me and never responded. IDK if you are familiar with r/antiwork and how FOX used the dumbest mod to paint the entire movement as idiots, but it seems like he is looking for a similar source, a stooge to get the sound bite he needs to tell his story. Yet because I bring up NBC having a long history of spreading misleading information to push a predetermined narrative that benefits their corporate sponsors, all of sudden I'm "right wing" lmao? This is a bitcoin sub and I don't want to get into politics but anyone who knows me would find that pretty hilarious

So there is actually not any legislation about “the stake [becoming] the first to ban crypto mining” that in aware of. Are you talking about the ban on using fossils fuel for mining? I would advise people not to associate their name and face with a story like this. Seems like it’s pushing a false narrative on the states stance on mining. Could you clarify what the story is actually about? Seems like more FUD from NBC, right on schedule with the market conditions.

What is "producer climate unit" ? If you want a show of faith, post what your data is regarding energy usage of bitcoin, you know, the talking head infographic you'll use to state how crypto uses far too much dirty energy. [Like this NBC report that falsely claims bitcoin is GENERATING carbon emissions.](https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/big-bitcoins-carbon-footprint-rcna920) It's notable as an agenda as it keeps the energy narrative thriving without detailing exactly how those emissions happen, what surplus energy is, and how those emissions would happen without crypto mining. When old money interests used dirty energy for decades, it didn't make any level of news. But now that new money is threatening it, it's the focus. I'm sure you'll compare the energy usage of bricks and mortar banking infrastructure right? Or will you handwave that away as "essential" as it "creates jobs" or "has an immediate utility" unlike, say, msnbc's statement that [NFTs and Bitcoin which are destroying our planet?](https://www.msnbc.com/opinion/bitcoin-nfts-other-crypto-fads-are-destroying-our-planet-n1261139) You want to "give bitcoin a voice" [after you're the one that drowned the voice out by showcasing statements like "There is very strong misinformation-based propaganda in the crypto world in general to deny the ecological impact of proof-of-work-based blockchains," Akten said. "It is reminiscent of the oil and tobacco industries." Akten said there are also "many whataboutisms, comparing the figures to the carbon footprint of the banking industry, fast fashion, McDonald's, etc."](https://www.nbcnews.com/tech/tech-news/crypto-art-community-sustainability-reckoning-rcna481) You think it's a whataboutism to compare crypto's footprint to the banking industries? When the idea is that the banking industry is what is being replaced by crypto? But yes, it is reminiscent of the oil industry. The oil industry that ran ads and product placement on NBC for decades, claiming plastic's superiority to paper and how it was better for recycling.

Here folks, hoping this will answer questions and appease. This is a report (watch the video) that NBC released earlier. [NBC segment on Bitcoin mining in NY](https://www.cnbc.com/2022/05/05/new-york-bitcoin-mining-moratorium-proceeding-through-state-house.html) What I’d like to do is an update and a more documentary style piece. But based on all your comments I believe this reportage from NBC linked above should calm the waters a bit.

Thanks for your question. We have already reached out to Coinbase’s spokesperson, and local experts in crypto currency, as well as a government official to expose their side of the story. I come to Reddit to try and find the “user” part of the story, not just to get “facts.” And I have covered everything from political turmoil in South America and drug trafficking to immigration and climate for NBC news. I hope this is helpful.
