I might need some context as to why it matters if the company being hired to negotiate and pay the ransom on behalf of your friend needs to be regulated or not. Feel free to DM me. Does it have anything to do with not wanting a them to file an STR which a VASP would be bound to do? But as it stands, your friend is simply hiring a negotiator as a service based business to provide the service of negotiation and release of a hostage (their data) for a fee.

You don’t buy a Bitcoin atm and put it in a location, you also need FINCEN registration, msb license, KYC and aml policies, compliance team to file STR, CTR and LTRs. Don’t forget chain analysis or another on chain tool. This is bare minimum, or you can have a company pay you couple of hundred bucks rent and they do all that.

I use a property management compny on my LTRs. I tried dealing with tenants when I first became a landlord but my own work, hobbies, family and everything else life throws at you made it horrible. Switching to a PM allowed me to spend more time finding deals rather than dealing with the inevitable tenant issues. It was a total game changer but I recommend starting out on your own so you can get an idea of the level of work that's really involved. I also have a STR that doubles as a vacation home, but I manage that myself.

Yeah, never store your whole password in a Password manager. Store a randomly generated part of it and add your own universal key to it. Let's say you generate this password for your password manager: abcd12345#1234 Then, you add your own "master prefix" like: G4STR0 which is only stored in your head or somehwere else. Now you get this password: G4STR0abdc12345#1234 - even after a breach hackers only get part of your password.

NOSTR is an acronym for Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays. Plebbit? Hmm. I'm not familiar with that one. Plebstr perhaps? But yes, many client names are not that great. Amethyst and Damus are pretty great clients and their names are great too. We even have a streaming website [https://zap.stream](https://zap.stream) and a cooking website [https://nostr.cooking](https://nostr.cooking) those names aren't so bad since they tell you exactly what you're doing. Anyways, yes, I agree all of our "STR" client names are not the best. Thanks for the feedback.

I'm saddened that more people aren't aware of Jed's past and XLM's relation to XRP. Obviously it was a long time ago (9 years is centuries), but it's gotta still be one of the largest betrayals in the crypto space and a lot of people were burdened by Jed's actions. For a DEEP dive into this, check out https://observer.com/2015/02/the-race-to-replace-bitcoin/ Brief overview of Jed, Mt Gox founder: https://www.forbes.com/profile/jed-mccaleb/?sh=143eac4a76bf I fully believe to this day that Stellar exists purely out of spite and it's my opinion they could never have established their rival currency without Jed personally holding up the STR economy by dumping the XRP he was given as a founder of Ripple Labs and screwing over ordinary traders of XRP for nearly a decade by sucking billions of dollars of value from the open market. Good riddance, Jed. P.S. I'm seeing "non-profit" thrown around a lot in these comments. I haven't kept up with Stellar in the past few years, admittedly, but this is something they've proudly claimed from the beginning and it turned out that they had registered as 'non-profit' in Delaware and the title effectively has no legal weight and means essentially nothing.

I would have been sitting pretty pulling out around 50k BTC AND 3k ETH, didn’t have to time the market at all. As for where to I would park the cash, I have a few viable assets that I believe in. One being a STR and the other raw land. My 401k(tsp) is also struggling but it will eventually pay dividends. I need to start looking at crypto more as a way to jumpstart my FI than an end all bees all.

I read the thread, but you clearly didn’t. I wasn’t saying there was going to be an overnight crash like what got triggered in 2008. It’s going to be low and slow like some good cooked ribs. The 3 month 10 year literally just inverses that has a 100% track record. So expect some shit to hit the fan in the next 3-6 months that will include lower lows. And there is lots of shit going on in housing market that isn’t being accounted for including a ton of overleverages by the new breed of get rich quick investors (many in the STR game that will dry up as belts get even tighter after Christmas and wages continue not to keep pace) that used financing based on STR rates they can no longer get. The next battle never looks like the last one. Call it macro dooming, I’m just calling it reality. This is gonna be a long painful process that will continue well into next year for the markets and into 2024 for RE. Almost impossible to time bottom for the markets, but it’s clear this ain’t it. I’m not dumping my money until the DOW is sub 26000. I know that for certain.

the current "NFT as art\\collectable" is a bit of a mis-understanding. The premise of them is much more powerful. I get that you can also make almost tangible items for virtual worlds with them too, but this is, although a better use, its still not what NFT's are about. and NFT in the most simple and true form is literally an entry in a decentralized, blockchain supported database, to say your wallet address owns a record in its record set. Basically a receipt of purchase to an associated product. as to what that record in the database links your ownership to, that is the bit that is being worked on next. Current uses in "art" are not secure nor are they copyright enforceable. most NFT's sold as art are literally just a link to a file sharing (central or decentral) URL, ANYONE can access the URL, but the NFT just denotes you bought a GNU license over the links contents. Its important to distinguish this, if you own an NFT, you do not own the art, but you can use it freely since that is how a GNU works. In the case of games assets, then they are a little more tangible than the art, as the image isn't what you want out of the NFT, its the other attributes that the record in the database holds that interact with the game (i.e weapon STR or something) using them in a pay to win model like we see though is certainly not sustainable in the long run for a game that is supposed to be about a service of entertainment. (think how MMO's are usually given a cash shop in their dying breaths) The future is amazing for NFT's, the current uses that are hyped....... not so much.........

I went into crypto back in 2017. It was right before the bull run, and my cousin told me about this 'Bitcoin' that's supposed to revolutionize the fintech industry. Back then, I had some works with IBM, and I found out about a project called "Stellar Lumens," that went under the acronym "STR" now known as "XLM." That drove me to buy both Bitcoin and XLM. My expectations? Nothing much. I just wanted to test it. What happened was XLM went from 0.02 to 0.86 in about 4 months, and I felt like I was a genius. Then the bear market happened but I kept holding my coins until now. I then started to read more about crypto and went back to DCA-in back in early 2021.

I guess you could make a DAO that helps structure the rewards payout for something like that, and in that way the entire economy of tournament play is regulated by blockchain. For native uses within the game, all special items that are unique can use the tech of NFTs, and I would imagine Yield Farming or liquidity provision could be a thing that helps a character level-up. For an RPG example, leaving one of the people in your party in a town. Leaving them there helps the town in some way and when you pick them up again their stats like EXP, STR, DEF have all increased in some way

I saw XLM rising from 0.02 to 0.89 and I thought I was on top of the world. Then the great winter came, and I went on a hiatus for 2 years. Now I'm back with a better head above my shoulders. The Pearson correlation model is applied to the crypto datasets all the time and it can be applied to this crypto dataset too, especially if it is a daily dataset. Someone performed a similar data analysis and came up with a similar fact for a 2017 dataset (XRP is the least correlated, see the section In-Depth - XRP and STR). https://blog.patricktriest.com/analyzing-cryptocurrencies-python/ Here is another study where XRP is weakly correlated with other coins such as BTC, ETH, XMR, and ETC using a daily dataset from July 2016 to July 2018. (see the page 79) http://www.diva-portal.se/smash/get/diva2:1265361/FULLTEXT01.pdf This study states that instead of calculating the correlation monthly, we should apply it to the daily data to get more accurate results. (see pages 77, 78)

This has been more or less since the birth of the network so they are a very knowledgeable team. Although you may not know the parent company you may of heard of LOBSTR & StellarTerm both of which are some of the first trading clients that many people used to use the stellar network. > >I believe LOBSTR is called such because before being called XLM the native tokens were called stellars or STR on the original network so LOB - to move & STR - stellars. To Move Stellars. So that’s testament right there to how long these guys have been working on the network. > >On 30th November 2020 Ultra Stellar acquired another Stellar trading client, StellarX, from Coinsquare. A new comer to the network StellarX struggled to make traction although it has proved to be a great client to access the Stellar Network. > >Although not directly linked to SDF Ultra Stellar does work closely with them. We saw this only this week when the validators went down and SDF & LOBSTR worked together to get their validators back online. Ultra Stellar has won multiple Community Fund rounds and have a lot of networking within the Stellar community. I mean I already covered that in the article but here it is again.

I bought a bunch of different coins in 2017 and the first few months went through bouts of panic selling before just narrowing down to a few coins/tokens and settling in to the buy and hold mentality. To echo your comments: 1. Had I just bought and never sold any then my returns (which have been pretty good) would have been substantially higher. 2. However I did need to sell some coins at the beginning in order to purchase others on different exchanges (some were duds). One such example was I had something like 50,000 Stellar Lumens (back with the symbol was still STR!). Had I held on to those that probably would've have been my largest current bag since I bought at such a low dollar figure. The funny thing is the other day I was thinking that I did remember buying a bunch of Stellar and wondered if I really got rid of all of them since the XLM price was looking pretty good. I admittedly did a poor job at tracking my purchases after 2018 (I was pretty diligent about tracking the buys and sells for tax purposes, but the manual logging of my holdings were deleted when my last phone crapped out since I had everything listed I think in Delta or Blockfolio). So I went through my old spreadsheets and calculated that I still had some XLM, but I just didn't know where. I finally got around to re-adding XLM on my offline wallet and wouldn't you know it: 5,000 XLM still there. So that was a nice surprise, and again to your point: buy and hold and forget about it.

Got excited and went for a basket instead: SPANK, ONE, EYE, MON, STR.

Biggest non-mainstream crypto that I have right now are the following: $CTSI and $RAMP Those I am taking a bet on and holding: $VRA (Verasity) and $STR (Stater)

Stater ($STR) is a fairly new token with a great use case. Strong team is backing it up and it looks so promising. Can be acquired through Uniswap or gate.io. Mainnet launch midmonth. Active team! It was featured in Yahoo Finance: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/top-ten-aspiring-crypto-coins-165019982.html Other coins I’m quite bullish on are: $VRA - they always exceed expectations and deliver what was written on their roadmap. Huge partnerships underway and the market cap is quite low compared to other huge gaming tokens. Impressive team as well. I bought mine via Bitmax (AscendEx). $CTSI has huge partnerships and gaining solid traction over the past couple of days. Decentralized poker game is upcoming and the team is focused on it. Hope this helps.

It's not as if that was decentralized in any way. The team has access to the tokens, they just gave an arbitrary time frame in which to claim the tokens and now sit on those that hadn't been claimed. There was no reason to give a time frame at all. They could have just let it be open for 1000 years. Check Stellar for example. People that claimed back in 2014 are still able to get their tokens (then still called STR) and receive XLM on the network tat launched in 2016.

I really appreciate the candor here, but aren’t you afraid of getting swept up in a speculative frenzy that then inevitably crashes the asset and forces the remaining public to lose faith? Long term projects need sustained development and growth, I remember what happened to XLM (STR back then) in 2014 where it ran up too far too fast and imploded, it took 5 years before interest picked back up (ignoring the 2017 bubble).
