Selling alts (top ones) now for BTC dont seem wise. They have dropped much more than BTC, and BTC will never rebound as much as those. If you want to go to 2017 here was the historical prices on Jan 1 2017 vs today (somewhere in the middle of the bear market) of top 10 coins back then : BTC - 998$ -> 25800$ (25x) ETH - 8$ -> 1750$ (217x) XRP - 0.006$ -> 0.51$ (84x) LTC - 4.5$ -> 77.94$ (16x) XMR-13.97$ -> 136.5$ (8x) ETC - 1.39$ -> 15.11$ (10x) DASH - 11.23$ -> 29.40$ (1.6x) REP - 3.99$ -> 5.60$ (0.4x) MAID - 0.09$ -> 0.14$ (0.5x) STEEM - 0.16$ -> 0.15$ (0x) Having a portion of your portfolio in BTC is wise (the size depends of the exposure you want to risk), but ignoring alts is also ignoring potential gains. Assuming I invested 1000 dollars in 1 Jan 2017: btc = 25800$ (25x) top10 = 2585+21875+8500+1700+970+1080+260+140+150+0=37260$ (36x) Also keep in mind the crypto market back then was way less mature, more or less everything was experimental/moneygrab. Now the majority of the top cryto projects have defined roadmaps and business models with actual income revenue streams.

>MAID I always look at these projects and think, there is some utility in what they are offering, decentralized encrypted storage, robust, redundant, but why use some proprietary currency to reward the nodes? As soon as I see that I think 'rug pull' at some point. If they were really being genuine about their project, they should use Lighting, i.e. Bitcoin as the reward for nodes using their spare storage, this way your system is truly decentralized and distributed.

Also, historically, zombie coins will rise from the ashes and become vastly more valuable. ETH is a great example. The run of 2017 brought ETH to $1400, only to drop to $85. Or cardano, which went from $1.4 to $0.03. Or LTC which seems to have 9 lives and fluctuates between $50 and $400 every cycle. My point is, yeah, not all coins survive... Walton, Peer, MAID, IOTA, Name, etc... but this time is great for getting your averages down on alts you truly believe in.

What about STEEM, XRP, LTC, DAO, XEM, DASH, MAID and LSK? You chose ETH because it's one of the most well known and trusted now, but if you invest in 2016 you don't have 2022 knowledge. Also you're comparing a 15-ish billion, highly inflated, market cap market with established and massive corporations. It's like dumbasses saying "look Bitcoin went from nothing to a lot!" and compare it with the top fortune 500 and their growth instead of highly risky penny stocks, or more like angel rounds, and using the same survivorship bias bullshit.

Maidsafe, for those asking or not in the know, had plans of creating the ultimate decentralized internet with no servers or centralized figures whatsoever. It had been researched and worked on prior to even bitcoin's existence and they took advantage of blockchain tech only to sell MAID tokens which would grant access to Maidsafe network and would allow network supporters to earn MAID by hosting a chunk of decentralized internet files. Unfortunately the project is like the greatest example of getting out of projects who are failing to execute and have massive scope bloat, as they never produced anything useful but never quit. To this day they're still working on decentralizing internet.

NP, and I apologize for being snarky I think that focusing on where to access information on projects that interest you will help enable you to find what you're looking for more efficiently It's certainly true that sentiment drives the market, so that a project with a great use case may not perform as well as one with quality marketing (shout out MAID fam) in general projects with solid use cases tend to do well in long term environments As you research more you'll discover current problems that exist (high gas fees for example) and then discover projects that provide solutions (Polygon for the same example) to those issues From there, you can evaluate the worth of a project by looking at comparables and what market cap they hold I would gauge my knowledge as low compared with many users on this forum but I am working on increasing my knowledge whenever I can because I find it fascinating and believe it's a higher growth opportunity than many traditional markets

Well, here’s some news, but it’s not good. I sent Ronny Boesing a Telegram message and he repled with this: Hello, I am sorry, but matters are somewhat complicated now. OPENLEDGER bankruptcy procedure has begun, CVR. No. 35809171. On the base of a decree by the Danish court on 27.01.2021, OpenLedger ApS has been declared under bankruptcy processing, and the lawyer Soren Aamann Jensen of Kromann Reumert has been appointed curator of the bankruptcy in question. If you have any questions, please contact curator for the following ([https://datacvr.virk.dk/data/visenhed?enhedstype=virksomhed&id=35809171&soeg=35%2080%2091%2071&language=da 2](https://datacvr.virk.dk/data/visenhed?enhedstype=virksomhed&id=35809171&soeg=35%2080%2091%2071&language=da)). Because of above decree, I am unable to discuss anything related to OpenLedger and ask you if necessary to connect directly to the curator. I pressed him further by asking this: Thanks for replying, but that doesn’t sound good for the hundreds of us who have maybe millions of dollars “archived” on Open Ledger. If only I had been notified about my MAID Gateway being disabled by something more than an obscure Blog Post, I would have withdrawn it in time. Please do the right thing and try to return all of our funds. I hope that our funds are still on the blockchain and have not been sold and that the curator will recognize this and make sure the archived funds are returned to their rightful owners. Thanks and good luck. Any timeline on how soon the court will process things? He replied: Ronny Boesing, \[27.04.21 08:32\] maid is long time gone, and was fully informed about it also at the the time of delisting. There is no talk whatsoever about maid. Ronny Boesing, \[27.04.21 08:33\] i cannot say anything more here, but felt u needed reply. the other channel has nothnign to do with the dex I replied: Gone, as in OpenLedger sold my MAID and took the money?! Please say it isn’t so. That money was very important to me. Is there nothing I can do? The tokens are still on the blockchain. Why can I not retrieve them? He replied: Ronny Boesing, \[27.04.21 08:45\] Personally i have No idea What has happened except i know at the time from devs that it was delisted. I am Sorry, But its out of my hands now I tried one last time: Okay, thanks for replying, but delisted does not necessarily mean sold and confiscated, does it? So the tokens still exist and every effort should be made to return them to their rightful owners. Thanks. No reply. I am afraid our MAID tokens and other thousands of tokens representing maybe millions of dollars that were on OpenLedger have been liquidated and the proceeds will be given to Open Ledger creditors.

Clip from the brilliant article: Awaken The Beast 2014 feels like a long time ago. In many ways it is. Sometimes, good things come to those who wait. With Maidsafe, their ambitions were clearly beyond their initial estimates. The world’s first ICO — before the term had even been called — had its troubles too. It didn’t stop MAID being propelled into the top 10 of the crypto charts and hanging in there until the 2017 boom times. Those of us watching them have seen many ups and downs, twists and turns, and highs and lows. There have been false starts, implementation cul-de-sacs, company restructures, and fundamental design changes. David Irvine has reflected on this somewhat forlornly with the Safe Network community. But getting things wrong is sometimes the only way we can learn what is right. It removes an approach from the table, allowing us to focus on those that remain. Reflecting on what went badly usually happens when either ultimate success or failure has been achieved. Luckily for us, it appears to be the former. Rejoice, for feature rich test nets are materialising, with feverish development taking place between them. This is a good place to be and the years of hard work looks to be paying off. The so-called impossible network is about to become possible. What Does It Mean? Given the scope of the Safe Network, it is hard to summarise succinctly. Given you’re probably expecting me to do so, I’ll give it a try. Be gentle! Think of what Bittorrent and IPFS have brought to decentralised storage. Then mix it with what Bitcoin has done to immutable transactions. Add in a dose of what Tor does for anonymity. Stir in a dash of non-fungible token (NFT) sauce. Top with a layers of distributed Domain Name System (DNS), build in Content Delivery Network (CDN), encrypted data routing, and immutable data storage. Then liberally sprinkle security, anonymity and usability to taste.

Personally I can only speak for Sia and Maidsafe, haven't really looked into the others. They both have a totally different approach, but what Maidsafe is trying to accomplish is far superior to the others if you ask me. Trying to keep a complicated idea as simple as possible: Maidsafe is working to rebuild the internet. Moving away from centralized servers, having everyone be a part of it. Maidsafe will soon swap their omni token to the Safe Network Token which will be used by the network to payout users on the network that contribute resources to it. The SAFE network will provide Secure Access For Everyone (just a coincidence, I swear ;)), gives the user back ownership of their own data, and will bring back true freedom of speech and expression. Maidsafe has an amazing community, sitting, waiting and hodling for several years now. Most of them actually understand and sometimes contribute to the underlying tech. Others help with donations or help decide on what to spend the donated funds to accelerate network adoption upon launch. If I had to name a downside, Maidsafe has made the community a promise when they received a 10.000.000 MAID loan from the community that their only focus would be on launching the network. They removed the marketing team, resulting in less awareness and outdated documents regarding the underlying tech. With the testnet right around the corner that will change soon and the BambooGarden Fund is now accepting applications to fund documenting the underlying tech and onboarding some additional expertise. Maidsafe is an absolute gem (for humanity not necessarily price-wise) and worth checking out.

It might be interesting to note: Maidsafe is community funded since 2017 when they raised over 10.000.000 MAID from the community. They promised to focus 100% on getting a working product out, and dropped all marketing activities. Some of these documents are definitely outdated. Something else that might be of interest, recently $2.000.000 had been donated by the community in the BambooGarden Fund. This fund will be used to accelerate network adoption, currently highest priority documenting all algorithms being used.

Not arguing with the merits, but you might be interested in some background wrt naming. MaidSafe Limited / MaidSafe Foundation (a Scottish Charity) are the driving organisations, and the names are based on: Maid - Massive Array of Internet Discs Safe - Secure Access For Everyone Safe Network is secured using nodes which provide the resources (storage, bandwidth, compute) for the network, and will be rewarded for doing so with SNT (Safe Network Token). The token is currently MAID, but will be converted 1 for 1 for use in the Safe Network, and called the Safe Network Token (a non Blockchain token - so very much better in terms of efficiency, scaling, transaction rates/fees etc). I agree other projects and tokens have catchier names but what's that if your product has as much behind it as an NFT! The first testnet with almost all core network functionality will be released in the next week or so, when you will be able to run a node to help with testing while getting a feel for the Safe Network as a new, secure, privacy first decentralised internet. Follow the weekly updates on the forum here if interested: https://safenetforum.org/c/development/updates/

To be clear, this is a rumor, but all the facts point into the direction. Delisted MAID a week after acquiring. No prior notice to community members or even the Maidsafe team. 2 years and 50 email later Poloniex still hasn't explained its reason for delisting. You have my info. I have 20,000 MAID tokens, currently worth about $8,000 USD stuck in OpenLedger. Is there more I should send? I have some emails with OpenLedger Support. Is there something or some specific language of promises that you would be looking for, that would be helpful in court? One says they might re-open MAID gateways if it became very active and higher priced. Another says all tokens are "archived," as if to assure me they still exist and haven't been sold. I hope that is true. Has Boesing responded in any way or through a lawyer? Has he maybe tried to buy time and indicated that they will reopen within a year, or something? Do you believe and can it be confirmed that they still have all of our tokens, or is it confirmed that they have sold some or all? It seems that if they still have all the tokens archived like they told me, then we just need to see how much it would cost them to reopen all gateways and process our withdrawals. If the guy really went broke running OpenLedger and the withdrawals were going to cost him more than he could afford to lose, then we'd all be willing to pay a reasonable amount. Thanks!
