I find it so funny that the WHITE HOUSE is setting up a position for crypto, the next president is calling himself the crypto president, states are setting up Bitcoin repositories left and right, almost all major investment banks now have crypto on their balance sheet, and there are STILL people who think it’s a side hobby.

So you spent like $10,000 on BTC in 2017, and then bought another 3 BTC when you sold your HOUSE. I feel like we need to talk about the definition of the word "broke". Also, I don't know why so many people here are applauding this kind of behaviour. Yoloing your entire life savings into a single asset, especially when you have a family, isn't exactly smart. It's actually quite irresonsible. But I'm glad it turned out well for you.

Here's my counter-take - you exchanged a highly volatile digital asset that has existed for what, 15 years, for a highly stable physical asset that also provides shelter and has been around as a concept since time immemorial. That's hardly a bad investment in the vast majority of circumstances. If BTC turns out to be tulips, you still have a house while everyone else on this subreddit lives in a pickle barrel. Sure, in the off chance that BTC thrives, you could have made slightly more, but it isn't like you made a bad move. The real limiting factor is your heartbeat. You only get so many of those, regardless of how many BTC or houses you own. Having stability is a key component of a financially secure and low-stress life, which is great way to spend the limited time you have. Take a moment to realize how INCREDIBLY fortunate you have been to start with a little bit of cash in a brokerage account and end up with a HOUSE! Sorry to wax philosophical, but I don't like seeing someone who has achieved such an incredible financial milestone at a young age beat themselves up about it... All the best to you, internet stranger.

if u bought a house and needed MORE money to renovate then you my friend are now house poor. YOu were NOT in a position to buy a home. We are often fed the idea that "We need to own a house" Why? if you can outright financially support the needs of a property, you dont need a property, you need a different income or just wait longer until youve accumulated it. Im sorry ur on this path now but my honest suggestion is wait a couple years, suffer the financial burden and SELL THE HOUSE in profit. Not everyone needs a home.

ITT: clowns who are too foolish to know selling bitcoin to buy a house is one of the STUPIDIEST decisions a person can make. YOU CAN BORROW MONEY IN AN INFLATIONARY CURRENCY AND AT A GOVERNMENT-SUBSUDIZED RATE TO BUY HOUSES. IF YOU SELL YOUR BITCOIN TO BUY A HOUSE, YOU ARE BOTH STUPID AND IGNORANT OF ECONOMICS.

I sold 1 entire bitcoin to do the same thing 3 years ago (payed off my mortgage). I HAVE ZERO REGRETS because after I was 100% debt free WITH A PAYED OFF HOUSE, I had virtually ZERO STRESS about the market price action and I developed TRUE  💎 ✋️ and sleep like a baby.  I use cash app and get payed in bitcoin, instead of a mortgage, I PAY MYSELF and my savings rate went from 20% gross income (when I had a mortgage) to now 50-55% gross income. It's a totally different reality when you're debt free and pay yourself rather than creditors. Around this same time I went full bitcoin only and dumped all my 💩 🪙. My stacking has increased massively and it feels like my actual quality of life has easily gone up 50% or more.  My normie fiat minded relatives can't figure out how I have a higher networth than them even though they earn 2x more than me and are "better educated" than me.... SIMPLE, I AM NO LONGER A DEBT SLAVE AND I AM NO LONGER ON THE FIAT STANDARD. Debt slavery is a fiat construct and I am NEVER GOING BACK! People enslaved to debt are not free to truly do what they want... constantly stressing over their job, their lives etc. Some people here have taken out a 2nd mortgage, ran up 2-3 credit cards, borrowed from family etc to buy bitcoin. If like in 2014, 2018, 2022 in a bear market, these people develop 📃 ✋️ and panic sell at a massive lose... or their relationship with friends and relative who they borrowed from deteriorate. Don't be a fiat debt slave... when you're debt free and with frugality, your rate of stacking with be supercharged. I was able to stack 1BTC from 2 years of #GETONZERO fiat, zero budget. I only hold fiat only on payday for a few hours to pay off bills and anything left over is dumped for bitcoin.  Normie debt slaves stack debt, they will remain enslaved to fiat parasites and the fiat mindset.

Hence why selling an asset like a car is somewhat of a silly idea? Especially considering you had to buy it, earn the net loss overtime, sell it in USD, convert it, and then when the time comes to actually spend the savings (because why save money if you don't eventually intend on spending it on something like a CAR OR HOUSE) you'll have to convert it back to USD. I understand savings isn't the same as spending money, but if you're saving without ever planning on buying something to better yourself or your life (or even someone else's), you're running a fool's errand. The saying shouldn't be money doesn't buy happiness because it definitely can, the saying should be money in and of itself isn't happiness, because I see people focusing super hard on money which is admirable, yet ignoring their own needs hindering themselves from actually earning that real money they're after. Even in this case, most people that are 24 are probably going to be able to net more income using the car's actual driving capabilities (getting to work, school or heck DoorDash even) than they'll actually get use from saving said car's monetary "worth."

Not to hamper your parade. I too believe in Bitcoin... On the other hand, even if an investment is guaranteed, ENSURE you do not need the alternative assets (money, altcoins/stocks, or oh I don't know a CAR AND HOUSE) before you decide to purchase ANY asset. Not saying in your circumstances you rely on the car, but let's not remove details from such situations lest another in a not-so-similar circumstance attempts to do the same! 😅

I don’t give a crap about payment when any fool can use worthless fiat currency/debt tokens to pay for stuff like that… saving up long term for a house etc IS A DIFFERENT MATTER THOUGH. If you were saving up for a house, and you had 5 years… would you save fiat currency or bitcoin? You telling me that a guy accepting bitcoin for a HOUSE can’t wait 10 minutes? The fiat monetary system TAKES DAYS FOR FINAL SETTLEMENT… DAYS! But the hardest digital money in the world, you can’t wait 10min for a BIG TICKET THING?! All those garbage shitcoin projects, they claim to be transacted in seconds but the #confirmation considered acceptable for payment IS MASSIVE… in reality, their final settlement is technically speaking LONGER THAN BITCOIN. I personally use my debit card for payments and get payed 100% IN BITCOIN… At the end of the month I will sell some bitcoin to pay off the credit card at the end of the month. I used to hold enough fiat just for bills but I no longer do even that because it didn’t seem right to hold ANY OF IT. No longer holding any fiat is my personal choice and most people, even here would disagree with me… they are fine holding fiat currency and see bitcoin more of an “investment” or a “trade.” I once only saw bitcoin as a “trade” too and did the whole “crypto bro” crap from 2017-2021… Now I see bitcoin as ETHICAL SOUND DIGITAL MONEY. Gold is ETHICAL SOUND PHYSICAL MONEY and bitcoin the same EXEPT it’s far less common and digital so I can send it to my relatives living 1000 miles away in 10min conformation time while some gold coin would take 1 entire day in overnight shipping and some grifter “altcoin project” can Solana could get shutdown and “restarted” and the number of conformations required for full settlement taking MANY HOURS. Holding bitcoin doesn’t mean you understand bitcoin… like holding fiat currency means you even understand how fractional reserve banking works or fiat currency debasement etc. Even after seeing their cost of living moving past their ability to keep up, most Americans will continue to hold fiat currency… they don’t know any better. Most here even will continue to “trade” and play with the crypto casinos, they don’t know any better.

Depends on the income.. the “excess” income might not be enough to compensate. I will give you an example. About 2 years before paying off my house with my investment gains, I SERIOUSLY THOUGHT ABOUT SELLING MY HOUSE to go back to school full time and get into nursing or veterinarian etc. My normie parents thought it was a good idea… even to live in a car while going to school. (Not wanting to borrow student loans). I did the actual math, and concluded that if I PAYED OFF MY HOUSE INSTEAD, my income pocketed would be MORE THAN BECOMING A NURSE. I have zero regrets too, because I looked up the actual take home pay of a coworker who is USDA veterinarian and after TAXES, STUDENT LOANS AND RENT/MORTGAGE, we pocketing THE SAME AMOUNT!!! Actually, after also factoring unrealized capital gains in hard assets like bitcoin, real estate etc, my veterinarian colleague was actually POCKETING LESS BY ABOUT $10,000/yr. Zero debt making average income with zero mortgage/rent and zero student loans IS EQUIVALENT TO A NORMIE INDEBTED PERSON MAKING DOUBLE in a same state. The numbers are even more shocking when factoring the cost of living. Example, a Walmart trucker in Tennessee actually takes home about the same as a average physician living in a HIGH COST OF LIVING CITY like Brooklyn or San Francisco, after taxes, and student loan debt obligations. When adding bitcoin too the numbers, it’s even crazier…the average surgeon can’t save enough bitcoin in 2023 compared some burger flipping wagie who was stacking like a MAD MAN in 2014. Bitcoin is compounding at a rate faster than most people can keep up with.

r/BitcoinSee Comment

WRONG. By time that heart surgeon HAS COMPLETED RESIDENCY, and has finished their boards etc, they are about middle aged. The average medical resident is 27 and surgeons take about 5-7 years of residency training… they finish about 32-35… that knocking on the door of MIDDLE AGED. THEN you have to factor in debt burdens… it’s rare to see doctors with $300,000 of student loan debt now. By time the surgeon already “catches up” with the “dumb” truck driver with a GED/HS degree who was driving since out of n highschool… THE SURGEON WOULD BE ABOUT 50… And we haven’t even factored the numbers of the “dumb” plumber or truck was getting payed in bitcoin etc. The normie debt slave doctor might NEVER CATCH UP! I did some basic calculations on my own income. I am 100% debt free WITH A PAYED OFF HOUSE. This year I will make about $60,000 at my job as a lab tech. Having zero debt and zero mortgage/rent and zero student loans (the size of a veterinarian, pharmacist, doctor) puts me at the SAME LEVEL AS A VET/PharmD living in the same state. (And a average physician living in a high cost of living state like Cali, NYC etc) That is to say a normie indebted Vet/Pharmacist actually pocketing the same as me after TAXES AND MORTGAGE/RENT AND STUDENT LOANS. Now, if I include living and saving on a bitcoin standard along with unrealized capital gains of a payed off house and bitcoin , I would technically be on the same level as a normie indebted pediatrician ($150,000) living in the same state and a normie general surgeon living in California, NYC etc ($300,000). It seems “crazy” but you can do the numbers yourself USING A GROSS UP SALARY CALCULATOR. My great grandmother learned these basic things when she was a nurse. Her wealthy private clients/patients taught her about saving in hard assets and dumping worthless pieces of paper. She became wealthy and she was not some fancy surgeon. All I did was to copy her… for 15 years (after my first real full time job) AFTER ALL LIVING EXPENSES PAYED FOR, I DUMP FIAT CURRENCY FOR HARD ASSETS… my networth is like 3-4x more than me “better educated” family and friends from school. It’s not how much you earn, ITS ABOUT HOW MUCH YOU GET TO KEEP. And saving debt coupons (fiat currency) is dumb… hard assets leverage the value of your labor long long term while fiat DEVALUES YOUR LABOR/SAVINGS.

Dumbest argument ever. Bonds definition: A bond is a loan that the bond purchaser, or bondholder, makes to the bond issuer. Governments, corporations and municipalities issue bonds when they need capital. An investor who buys a government bond is lending the government money. If an investor buys a corporate bond, the investor is lending the corporation money. Bonds? Debt. Can you sell bonds? Yes. Can you sell a house in debt? Of course you can, but it's not YOUR PROPERTY. You are OWED YOUR AMOUNT OF EQUITY IN THE HOUSE. The Bank owns the house until you pay off the loan. Go sit down, clown. This discussion is above your intelligence level.

\*\*\*NEED TO PREFACE THIS BY SAYING I'M DISCUSSING HIS ACADEMIC WORK, NOT HIS METHODS. FBI PLEASE DON'T COME TO MY HOUSE LMAO\*\* The Unibomber wasn't right about everything but he was right about so much. Especially regarding technological advancement being used for malevolent purposes by groups looking to control and lord over others. Technological advancement in theory was supposed to be a net positive, but what it ended up being is the end of personal autonomy and freedom. These tools allow governments to regulate and control to such an overwhelming level that were essentially their pets, and it's only getting worse. Local police forces are investing heavily in self-flying surveillance drones. Central banks want digital currencies that they can literally lock and turn off with the press of a button if you get out of line. Every single thing that you do is collected and stored on the server, basically being a lifelong permanent record. They know who your friends are, where you work, your interest, and the causes you support. They control the news you consume, they have access to the conversations you have (and they are listening). They are manipulating and brainwashing the general public to enforce their own agenda against anyone who falls out of line. It's dystopian as all heck... oh wait I'm rambling on the wrong sub again lmao.

If you're going to do 10+ wallets and seed phrases, figuring out how to geographically spread those so that no kidnapping, fire, act of god, act of war, etc., disloyal family, unexpected police raid (accused of a crime on your property and they seize it when you had 0 knowledge) there are so many ways to have really bad luck And I don't have a solution for those. I think the solution might involve spread across bank safety deposit boxes but encrypted using a long password I've used for more than 20 years to lower the risk of it being forgotten no matter what happens to me

Absolutely, it's not that black and white of 'one is good, the other is bad', or 'one speeds up society, the other brings it to a halt'. But this difference affects people in small ways. People would feel less inclined to spend money willy nilly, they'd be far more concious about it. The consumerist society would be less, to what degree is arguable, but less nonetheless which affects the world and the numbers in some way. Money makes money right? Well, if there was a way to exponentially increase your income (aka using this growth of money to make more of it) soooo many people, especially people like us that are finance driven, would take this path. We wouldn't buy the newest model of car for he family because we have the money and think it's worth it. We could use that money in numerous ways, to buy a HOUSE with it in a couple years. It will affect the consumerist society most of all. Yes I agree, it's not going to stop people spending all together. Most of the time the things we buy are more important than the value they hold. But also this is often not the case. It's not black and white, one or the other - these things affect the world and people in numerous ways. To think it would have NO affect on the world whatsoever is a little blind. I'm NOT saying that I'm against this, nor am I saying I'm right and you're wrong. I'm just playing the devils advocate here, and portraying another side potentially not thought of. That's the beauty of places like reddit isn't it?
