Summary: - Tech has nothing to do with whether the crypto is a good investment - Number of developers has nothing to do with whether the crypto is a good investment A number of chains that used to be at the top as number of developers actively working like NEO, EOS, AION, ICON, etc are all pretty much dead today.

My point is, investing in ALTs is an almost guaranteed way to lose money. And out of the thousands of ALTs, people almost always pick the wrong ALTs for the new bullrun and/or ALTs have a short pump/dump window to make money. In 2019, /r/cryptocurrency was picking these ALTs which are all down massively or dead. > IOTA, ICON, Vechain, Nano, NEO, BCH, DragonChain, Factom, Zilliqua... https://np.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/au3j49/only_the_strongest_will_survive_the_great_altcoin/ > during a full on bull run btc dominance decreases every time What is your point? Probability is that it doesn't mean shit for the ALT that your're holding. If you look at this time in 2020 a couple months after the halvening, out of the top 100 coins: - a handful of ALTs that outperformed BTC in the bullrun - most of those ALTS had a short window to sell them before they dumped again - most of those ALTs are down again big time, most will never recover Most of the newer coins that did insane pumps were like in the 200s, 300s or lower in rankings with tiny marketcaps or weren't even available like SOL, etc. Now there are like 25,000 coins and you think you've picked the one to pump when BTC domoinance decreases every time. There is a reason you see people commenting here who have been in multiple bull run cycles and still lost money.

Scam shills always try to pump dead/dying shitcoins whatever way they can. - BNB/Binance already had 55 stocks available on their exchange and chain. Solana/FTX already had like 90 stocks available on their exchange and chain. These included APPL, GOOGL, TSLA, MSFT, etc. I think regulators blocked Binance and FTX exit scammed. Now, Hedera "partners with Blackrock" is the first to do this...pump it. There was virtually zero interest or liquidity in this in the first place. - ICON and other shitcoins already had Python available as a programming language for their shitcoin smart contracts. Algorand has been spamming itself as the 1st blockchain to have this so it'll moon.

I've been posting this pasta since 2017/18 warning new people to be careful falling for the tech meme. Amazing technology and active development does not mean success. NXT was launched in 2014, a top 5 project, was the most advanced platform, had a huge community of investors and developer and there is forum with hundreds of thousands of posts in multiple languages here: https://nxtforum.org/ - First coin that was 100% Proof of Stake - 1 minutes block times - Java programming lanaguage - DEX (Chainlink's Sergey Nazarov worked on a DEX project there) - Messaging - Assets in the blockchain (Staple top 10 coins like NEM were launched there) - Programmable APIs - Smart Contracts But by the time of 2017 bullrun, NXT fell into irrelevance and even hyped shitcoin platforms like Stratis, NEO, etc easily surpassed it. Today, most new people haven't heard of NXT or aren't even aware how hyped and loved the shitcoin platforms that followed NXT like Stratis, NEO, IOTA, ICON, AION, were. Retired maxipad checking in. Since 2018: - The S&P index, a safe weighted index of stocks, has returned ~70% - BTC from its highs then, has returned ~90% - ETH has returned ~60% - Every other crypto in the top 25 from 6-years ago is down -60% to -98% with shitcoin investors losing most their money. After getting to a high marketcap, it's almost impossible for shitcoins to keep gaining value pulling in new investors. The notion that the market is red, now is the time to buy my shitcoin is a losing proposition. https://coinmarketcap.com/historical/20180107/ The vast majority of crypto investors lose money because almost all of the crypto space is a money grab scam. These shitcoins have no fundamental value proposition and are entirely dependent on BTC price rising and bringing new dumb money to the market. Hold some BTC long term as a diversifier with traditional assets including stocks, bonds and real estate as your main holdings and for god sake avoid shitcoins (everything that is not BTC). Don't be like dumb crypto investors doing research trying to find the crypto with the best technology and innovation and comparing Bitcoin to AOL or Facebook saying BTC will soon be replaced by new shitcoins with superior technology. Post from ~7 years ago where people said *"Bitcoin will be to crypto what AOL is now to the internet"* -- most these dummies have lost most their money. https://np.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/7kval4/in_20_years_bitcoin_will_be_to_crypto_what_aol_is/ - In 20 years Bitcoin will be to crypto what AOL is now to the internet. - Lol—try 3-5 years. - I think 20 months tops - 20 yrs? Think 2. - It' ll happen sooner. The world turns faster constantly. Bitcoin is like a fat, slow dinosaur - Agreed. Could be months. The space is wide open for competition. Could def see ETH and BCH taking the crown. - Someday people will think that it'd ridiculous to pay fees and wait time to transfer money and they will buy IOTA - Companies will not bet on a burning piece of garbage like Bitcoin, and whatever they pick will win. I guarantee it. See: Bosch/IOTA. - Hmm your comment has made me think of possibly splitting my portfolio four ways - ETH, IOTA, XRP, REQ. - The sad fact is there are coins from 4 years ago that are better than Bitcoin, we don't even need new projects to take leaps forward. - Tl;dr I think your bitcoins are going to be about as valuable as your 20 hours of free internet CDs from AOL - In 2017 alone, Ethereum, Iota, Ripple, Vertcoin, Monero and Litecoin have all made big moves in terms of tech and adoption. What will 2018 bring? 2019? Will Bitcoin still lumber into 2020? Not gonna say what you should invest into. I’m only talking about adoption, there’s plenty of projects that has adoption. The problem with them? No matter how many “proof of concepts” comes to fruition for these projects with actual use cases. These coins don’t make you profit until years later. IE: TRAC, ICON, VET, HBAR I think the only coins that tends to do well in terms of short term to 1 year holds are DEFI projects, maybe NFT and memes imo. Any project that has a lot of DEFI tends to have really high TVL for the ecosystem as well. I think coins with actual adoption will only 100x when we get regulated, and many retail or maybe more big corps brings more hype and use cases mainstream wise.

Didn't these [all blow up massively from their lows going into the bullrun?](https://imgur.com/a/GVmHmpI) Looks like ICON is the worst of these, from relative peak to relative high it looks like it did a 10-15x. (Not grabbing the lowest or highest numbers but more taking what a reasonable person could've bought and sold for) If we take Bitcoin from the same period and be generous about a buyin (Let's say $4k) and be very generous about a sell price (say 65k), that's a 16x gain, which would mean these ridiculed coins all outperformed Bitcoin, except for ICON I guess. > only those with good tech will remain relevant Crypto investors AGAIN fell for the **Recipe for a pump and dump shitcoin scam = TECHNOLOGY + PARTNERSHIP** Looking at ALGORAND, SOLANA, AVAX, remind me of IOTA which at one point was $5 and #4 on Coinmarketcap and people kept shilling their advanced technology and partnerships with Bosch, VW, Jaguar, Fujitsu, the EU, etc. Today even with 1/4 the total supply of ALGO, IOTA cannot even hold $0.20 as the hype is dead and people come to the realization that the tech is a meme and absolutely nothing came out of or will come out of all those partnerships... I posted warnings lots of times to new people when the bull market was on in 2021 - especially when people were asking "Why does anyone even invest in BTC?" https://np.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/pcjpft/why_do_people_still_buy_btc/hajum1g/ A lot of new people to the crypto space really haven't experienced a rugpull yet. In almost every single project investors are eventually left bagholders whether it is a pure money grab or because tokenomics puts the vast majority of the supply in the hands founders and insiders. The Bitcoin is outdated and we have a better technology narrative has been used to lure investors and in the vast majority of cases, investors have been losing their money since 2013 when better than Bitcoin projects came to the scene. There are some really interesting projects with technical merits but looking at how the supply was distributed with the founders, developers, insiders, now VCs and/or "the foundation" keeping the majority of the supply to themselves while the price pumps with limited supply released to the public, I don't see how things are going to be any different from 2013 and 2017. 2013 - https://coinmarketcap.com/historical/20131231/ NXT -First coin that was 100% Proof of Stake - 1.5 minutes block times - Java - DEX - Messaging - Assets in the blockchain - Programmable APIs NameCoin - Decentralized DNS - One of the first to have support for NFTs PrimeCoin - Vitalik referred to PrimeCon developer Sunny King as the "the single most original altcoin developer" and if PrimeCoin and Bitcoin were released in 2008, PrimeCoin would have won https://talk.peercoin.net/t/transcript-of-sunny-king-interview-with-vitalik-buterin-from-bitcoinmagazine/463 PeerCoin - First Proof of Stake coin 2017 - https://coinmarketcap.com/historical/20171231/ Some of the narratives that were sold in 2017 included: - XRP is the Standard. Banks are about to adopt XRP as the settlement and interoperability layer for the internet of value. - Stratis (this was once the #8 on marketcap) is the future of Blockchain tech, smart contracts written in C#. Devs are going to flock to the platform - IOTA (was once #4 on marketcap) is going to be the backbone for the "machine to machine (M2M) economy, the underlying protocol for the internet of things - NEO (once staple top 10) is going to bring the smart economy to China by by smart contracts and digigtal assets. The potential is just huge in China. - SIA and Golem are going to revolutionize tech creating a paradigm shift in storage and computing - ICON is the Korean Ethereum because they partnered with a ton of Korean banks, hospitals, universities. This will be huge in Korea because Koreans support their own projects and this will hyperconnect the world. - REQuest Network is the most important financial project to crypto. This is the paypal of crypto. - Raiblocks (Nano) is fast and feeless and will kill every inefficient blockchain currency

tldr; The trial of Mark Shin, accused of stealing $9 million worth of cryptocurrency, has ended in a hung jury. Shin was accused of minting around 14 million ICON cryptocurrency tokens without paying their value by taking advantage of a software update. Shin's attorneys argued that he did not commit theft or cybercrime and was not the only one who realized there was a bug. The District Attorney’s Office plans to retry him. *This summary is auto generated by a bot and not meant to replace reading the original article. As always, DYOR.*

The same question was asked many times in 2019 and people thought named all these projects which are either dead or down -90% or more from 2018 ATHs to have the greatest potential > IOTA, ICON, Vechain, Nano, NEO, BCH, XRP, XLM, ADA, DragonChain, Factom, Zilliqua... https://np.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/au3j49/only_the_strongest_will_survive_the_great_altcoin/ I was saying your don't hold on to your shitcoin bags, shiny new toys will be hyped the next bull run > Don't worry, a new round of shitcoins will be coming with new hype. Mostly, the only point of the meme tech was to dump tokens on you

**The Circle of Shitcoin Life** In the 2019 bear market, people picked out these projects as strongest to survive: > IOTA, ICON, Vechain, Nano, NEO, BCH, XRP, XLM, ADA, DragonChain, Factom, Zilliqua... https://np.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/au3j49/only_the_strongest_will_survive_the_great_altcoin/ I warned that new shitcoins will come next cycle and people won't be buying old shitcoins from bagholders: > Don't worry, a new round of shitcoins will be coming with new hype. In the next few years almost every single meme tech coin that you are holding or buying the dip on today is also going to be dead.

I for one look greatly forward to the adaptations that this brings with IBC. Especially the non-VC funded approach that Cosmos takes towards their blockchain development. Small steps currently, and the ISS is incremental with other workings in place by Polkadot, ICON, and other interoperability networks working towards the same goal of a unified relay chain.

> Loads of people here can't seem to figure out finding legitimate protocols...investing into sound projects EASY to say this when you can't name any "legitimate protocols and soundsprojects" which either haven't lost you -90% or haven't underperformed BTC/ETH by -70% over the years. If you DON'T include Bitcoin and Ethereum, the OTHER 18 PROJECTS in the TOP 20 from 5 1/2 years ago went from ~$240 BILLION MARKETCAP to like ~$50 BILLION MARKETCAP with every single project losing investors money. If you do the .. Top 200 Coins from 5 1/2 years ago: - 3 coins outperforming Bitcoin - 6 coins actually in profit - 194 coins in losses https://coinmarketcap.com/historical/20180101/ And yes, people were led to believe they were investing in sound projects, legitimate protocols, where there was lots of development being done, partnerships where big enterprises had bought in in projects like IOTA, ICON, AION, etc.

If that is the strategy you should go with all the projects that /r/cryptocurrency shilled to death then turned bearish and capitulated on, you should be rich the next bullrun - IOTA - The backbone for the "machine to machine (M2M) economy, the underlying protocol for the internet of things" - NEO - The Chinese Ethereum, massive market in China. - ICON - The Korean Ethereum, they're partnered with a ton of Korean banks, hospitals, universities....and you know Koreans support their own projects - OMG - Going to bank the unbanked. The future of blockchain. Just look at the team. Vitalik himself is an advisor! - NANO - fast and feeless and will kill every inefficient blockchain currency - VET - First crypto with enterprise adoption. Look at all those partnerships, everything is going to be tracked on the blockchain.

> solid projecting Over the past 6-7 years on crypto subs, I've seen people time and time again do research, due diligence and then drop $50K+ on what they think is a revolutionary crypto technology project. $50K+ dropped on IOTA, ICON, VET, etc.....only to lose -95% of their money. There will always be a better cleaner design and tech from the ground up in the future. The problem is it will never have the adoption, developer mind share and tokenomics distribution. The best you get is a few good pumps, then investor saturation and circulating supply dilution as insiders dump and everyone eventually jumps ship. See shitcoins like IOTA, EOS, ICON, etc. Bitcoin and Ethereum have won in their respective spaces.

TLDR; The bitcoin ICON used in the article is clickbait. BTC is not effected. The two vulnerabilities found were an RPC vulnerability in Dogecoin "core" client. The LTC (and 280 chains... not BTC), they called RAB13s was basically a way to likely hang a listening nodes listening TCP/IP port (details not provided). The attack would work by trying to take much of the nodes down, so that a scant majority of surviving (patched) nodes could proceed with a 51% attack. Article didn't mention wether this attack worked on the miners (cgminer) or just the non-mining "core" client. VERY very light on detail.

Amazing that Dash was in the top 10 for so many years and is now fading into obsoletion. Anyone here in 2017 would also remember that ICON and IOTA were considered coins that were very much here to stay... This industry is moving so fast that the current favourites have no guarantee of even being talked about still let alone used in 2025..

I’ve had my fair share of crazy ideas/end game plans during my first year as it also was my introduction into the finance world. I was naive and like most ppl are… 2greedy to sell at the end of bullmarket. My ATH value was somewhere worth around 6 years of salary but I foolishly believed it would turn around again until it was half it’s ATH value. Which still was a huge sum of cash and profit but u live and learn growing into adulthood. The first year of my first bearmarket was depressing but I told myself it was an expensive lesson but I learned a good lesson. After a while of telling myself that mantra. I started to believe it. Used to dca every month during the 2 first years of bear into ICON. For the staking they had announced. In my Scandinavian country many banks started to bann the ability to buy crypto on the most common sites binance/coinbase. So these last years I’ve only used crypto to buy drugs and save monthly on indexfunds instead.
