Sure, 'hope-ium' is a powerful drug, but let's do a quick logical analysis using the average cost to mine 1 BTC (In USD Terms) as a test of 'relative' value. According to [Macromicro](https://en.macromicro.me/charts/29435/bitcoin-production-total-cost), it costs approximately an average of $29,729 USD to mine 1 BTC. Therefore, I would (personal opinion, you can value Bitcoin however you'd like) say that Bitcoin is currently at a FAIR MARKET VALUE at the current price of ~30k

Yes Bitcoin is a zero sum game. That is what a FAIR currency is supposed to be. Unlike what we have now where those closest to the money printer get rich faster and everybody else gets poor. Actually it can even be argued that once all Bitcoin are mined and lost Bitcoin continues to accrue, Bitcoin becomes positive sum, as all things around it get cheaper relative to Bitcoin.

Just imagine what would happen if government spending was on a public blockchain. Publicly audited by its citizens. My god, the amount of corruption that would immediately be found, and then eventually, it would stop. Or at least be heavily reduced. If democrats knew that republicans were coming in and could see every transaction for 4-8 years? Or the other way around? I think this can have massive Benefits for society. Imagine if JPM has a digital ledger tracking all their moves in the metals market? No more market manipulation for bank profits. No more front running your own depositors. I have serious issues with eth. From #ethgate, and the shady dealings behind closed doors, to just being owned by JPMorgan. I don’t trust it. I realize I am in the minority. But I Honestly DO NOT believe in it long term. But no one, I fucking swear, NOT ONE of the people in the eth sub are able to acknowledge that things MAY change. Eth wasn’t always the number 2 market cap. It is logical to think that another coin MIGHT be able to take that space. Especially if there is FAIR regulation and competition. Eth was given a head start by regulators when Bill Hinman gave his “sufficiently decentralized” speech in 2018. You can see the chart spike within an hour of the speech. Eth has never had to COMPETE with other coins. It was GIVEN its place at the top. It didn’t earn it. If REAL regulation comes, there is a legitimate chance that one or more coins gains a competitive advantage. But the eth sun is filled with “ will eth hit $5k or $50k?” Serious question What happens when devs realize they can do everything they do in Eth chain, faster and cheaper somewhere else? Why would they stay? Please enlighten me.

I agree, the point I was trying to drive at is that it was essentially a wealth tax. If you can't understand that I'll put it plainly. During the **Great Depression** \- which this took place during - the majority of Americans were somewhere between poor and fucking destitute. The idea that the government forcing citizens to turn in "large amounts" of gold for FAIR MARKET VALUE affected a large part of the population is just fucking dumb. Do I agree with the rule, no. Just like I think wealth taxes are bad. However to pretend this kept people in the poorhouse is tough to take. I'm pointing out some facts : \- This affected rich people and to draw this as a parallel to crypto is dumb. \- It wasn't theft because they were compensated. Theft is when I steal something. Not that this was good, but this wasn't theft. \- The people most affected by this weren't using 160 KG of gold as a means of payment. The most affected people by this law also remained rich after they were paid for their gold. \- To really drive the point home, during the great depression to pretend this affected a relevant number of poor people is dumb. According to what I've researched in 1933 85% of the wealth was in the top 10% of Americans. You're right - this law sucks and was wrong. However your whole point boils down to this : The government might have have made rich people less rich. Finally... and most importantly. If the people kept their fucking gold it wouldn't have gone up in value. We don't know how much this did or didn't affect people's wealth because HAD THE GOVERNMENT NOT taken the gold we don't know what it would have been worth, we don't know when gold holders would have sold it, etc. So to make a long story short, it's great example of governments being assholes but that's about all we can draw from the story. Congrats. Governments are assholes. I agree.

This isn't lieing at all... those are Layer 2s. This is a fundamentally different conversation as Layer 2 is inherently centralized. You are comparing apples to oranges, and I am not a liar. As I have said in another comment, I would love to add layer 2s for comparison. Some time in the near future people will probably stress test them, and I can make a follow up post. . although, I think that Layer 1 to Layer 1 comparisons make the most sense. The post is entirely about finding a ***FAIR*** way to compare layer 1 smart contract platforms. Comparing layer 1 to layer 2 is not fair.

Who is to decide an even and uneven distribution of BTC? A government and the judiciary. The argument over what is fair is always decided by those who have power. The concern is about buying BTC at a FAIR market value. So, you can save for the future. Buy and hodle or buy and trade. That is your business and not the business of busybody people who want to decide what you can can and cannot do.

This is legitimately the first time i've heard this too and been around since Mt.Gox. Usually they just reel off shilling terms about the protocol and why THIS COIN is different, except I heard the same shit over and over during the last bullrun: STAKING, 20% APR, DEFI, DEX, DAO, WEB3, NFT MARKETPLACE, DOXXED TEAM, FAIR DISTRIBUTION, ROAD MAP etc etc etc. How people think we need thousands of different NFT marketplaces or Dexes is beyond me but people lap that shit up.

Ok let me answers this in parts, because you are mentioning multiple different things. 1. Inheritance The kid gets the company, because the person that BUILD the freaking company decided it that way. And this is FAIR! Now as for the competence of the kid, the kid has the same dna as the parent, also has probably a lot of experience with the company and love for the company, the kid literally grew up with the company. Now if the kid is a moron then its very likely the parent will not put the kid in charge. Probably someone else will manage the company and also the extra voting rights that come with it. Yes the kid will probably be taken care off financially, but thats not the issue here. 2.contribute nothing I never said that minimal wage workers contributed nothing. You made up this straw men argument so u could try to make a point. The people that contribute nothing are the ones on welfare. I live in a welfare state, where people that are on welfare often get more then minimal wage workers, its completely ridiculous. Criminals would be a detriment to society. 3.lottery winner If this lottery winner needs to pay way more tax then yes he should get a boost in voting power for obvious reasons. 4. Conclusion There is a reason western society is on the brinks of collapse and its called democracy. We need way less Government and more free markets

I think your concerns are valid and these are definitely things that I think about (read: keep me up at night). Overall, however, I’m very optimistic. In fact, I think Midas cutting interest rates *this frequently* might be a good sign… Here’s why: 1. Three cuts in a row shows that Midas is responding to market conditions and pressures on a month on month basis. This is good because it indicates that they’re not acquiring loans/external investment to fund the interest paid to investors. Instead, they’re relying on the interest that the market can generate and make assessments on a monthly basis. That’s good! Unless Midas engages in either fraud or gross mismanagement, this strategy should allow the company to always remain cash-flow positive… 2. We actually know for a fact that Midas is cash-flow positive as they frequently carry out their “Payout Split Buybacks” where they use 10% of the interest paid to investors to buy their native token $MIDAS on the free market (raising its price). They do these buybacks once a week and the most recent one was only a few days ago (>2000 MIDAS tokens were purchased at around $30/each). They’re effectively spending $60,000/week minimum on buybacks. 3. I actually trust Midas to make good and wise long-term decisions. On the eve of the UST fiasco Midas, who didn’t have any Terra UST holdings, took the decision to move away completely from Tether’s USDT in favour of USDC. These are the kind of smart decisions you expect from a thriving company. 4. The communication (so far) has been second to none. Trevor & Team have let us know that the reason the cuts happened is because the bear market makes DeFi investments riskier and Midas has made the “cautious” decision to exit all its medium risk DeFi investments and only keep the low-risk investment ex You may disagree with the principle, but I think in light of everything that’s happened with UST/Anchor/LUNA… FAIR ENOUGH. Overall, I think Midas will survive the current bear market and I believe it will eventually thrive. Interest rates will rise when market conditions improve. The crypto to crypto taxes are BS. I support crypto to USD being taxed. But I don’t think you should be able to be taxed on something that can get you so in debt to the government. It’s just not fair to people trying to pull themselves out of poverty or compete in the world. Investing doesn’t fit into a yearly tax schedule and the rich and institutional money uses that to absolutely destroy retail investors. They can make it so holding past the year mark will lose you a lot of money, but a lot of times have to to avoid a huge tax burden. Then they can pump it after the start of a new year while retail investors can’t invest due to possibly losing a ton of money that they will owe to the government in April. For instance. You buy 1 bitcoin at 10k, it goes up 500% to $50k, you sell for ETH. now have a taxable gain of $40k and Then the year turns over. Your ETH plummets 80% after the start of the year. You now have $10k again, and Oops it’s a 5 month long dip. A 30% tax on your $40k is $12k. You now owe the government $2k more than the value of your portfolio. This is just NOT FUCKING FAIR. You should never be able to get into a position where you owe the government more than your investments value. It makes the rich able to freely play in the market and mean the lesser fortunate have their hands tied a lot of the time.

You do not understand the philosophy of Bitcoin. The idea of a currency that cannot be controlled by any single entity, cannot be inflated, and it completely secure is a beautiful thing the world needs. Traditional money has completely corrupted the world, I would love to see how much better the world would be if money was FAIR. Why the hell wouldn't I want other people to learn about fair money? I do not want to horde Bitcoin, nobody wants to hoard it. Bitcoin is a currency for everyone, no matter what race, location in the world, or political views. I suggest doing research on the subject and how it could make the world a better place, if you're one who likes to keep good information away from others I think you have a character flaw, that says a lot about who you are.

IF you read my original comment, it was about the govt freezing funds/assets of individuals to stifle the protest. YOU brought in the whole "blocking traffic, international borders" in it and I said "fine, if you're going to label this protest as invalid because they're breaking the law, then other protests that broke the law should be labeled as invalid and not praised" -- I was pointing out the hypocrisy between treating this convoy as invalid but the praise that another large US protest got despite doing MUCH worse things that broke the law -- and I gave examples: burning of property, vandalizing buildings, lootings businesses, etc. On top of that, I admit that there could be harassing going on in this convoy as there was during those other protests -- and I said that is FAIR to cancel them out. ​ Lastly, I **never** claimed anything regarding race -- **you** were the one who brought race in (since it is clearly an easy card to pull whenever someone wants to skew an argument in their favor -- just pull the race card)! I brought BLM as an example because it was the most recent and prominent protest since this Convoy -- and it wasn't treated nearly as poorly by the general populace and the media as this Convoy is despite being physically (and in a law sense) much more damaging. My favorite quote about it from media was CNN's headline "fiery, but mostly peaceful, protests" which is laughable. Don't get me wrong, I was in support of those protests and attended some in my city, because I 100000% believe there is racial injustice that needs to be taken care of. I have a very close friend who spent a good decade of her career trying to change this whole bullshit "old boys club" in the police force from the TOP down (her family is law enforcement) and she got NOWHERE because of the top officials always shooting her down, to the point she was threatened if she kept trying -- so she left because she feared for her life (and she's a former domestic abuse victim). TRUST me when I tell you I'm not anti-BLM by any means -- I'm just trying to point out the hypocrisy here. ​ Sorry if it came across as a double standard - that was not my intention. But I think we both agree that there is a lot of bullshit going on right now with this protest in Canada and how the govt/police are overstepping their boundaries. I havn’t seen a proper answer here yet so lets give it a go! Soundness is not a scale of 1-100 its a binary yes or no. It basically means ‘true’ or unchanging. Bitcoins total supply is SOUND where ETH’s deflationary posture is simply opposite of current fiat. A TRUE store of value has one purpose, to reflect societal demand. As soon as one alters the supply, the value structure begins to favor past or future. If inflationary, the past receives outsized purchasing power in relation to the future. If deflationary, the future outsizes the past. That might sound good, but a sound money is to remain FAIR for generations to come. In ETH’s example, the asset would theoretically reach a point where it becomes unnaturally expensive to buy, thus stiffling adoption. And lastly the reliability of these rules is crucial. If ETH finds trouble with its model down the road, theres a big chace stakers will agree to a hard fork adding some inflation. You could stick it out in the old fork, but you would end up watching your coin price go down for lack of adoption. Bitcoin uses proof of work and has very conservative ideals in changing its protocol. There is no fuckin chance you are changing the 21 million in BTC. Yes you get less base later utility with bitcoin, but thats from refusing to sacrifice security. It’s a good point. I’ve spend a lot of time around people living radically below the poverty line. I mean like 5k - 12k per year and living climbing, skiing, spiritual dreams, and adventure dreams. I’d say there are two key focuses, cut bills relentlessly (roommates, coupons, use public library internet, COOK, radically reduce grocery bill through extensive planning, BIKE to where you want to go) or focus on increasing your income. Or do both, the income side of things is what made me decide to go back to school. That was double edged because you have to take on more bills to do that effectively, at least in the short term, not only day to day just to make the 100+ hour a week grind work but also debt to pay tuition. Not saying everyone can save money, or that it’s easy, and it certainly ain’t RIGHT or FAIR. Regardless of this classist hierarchy, you can only start from where your at and use tools at your disposal to improve. Sometimes there are no costs to cut, maybe you already only spend 20 bucks a week on food, rent a room in a house with 4-8 other people, ride your bike and city transit etc. if I was back in that place again I’d be making some long term plans to try and get out of it.
