ZBRA has excellent products and systems, but that didn’t protect the stock from falling steeply. This whole thread could really be a study in counterpoints. Companies with great value prop or service can sometimes see their stock fly, but it seems equally likely that the stock and company can falter until the adopt aggressive enshittification. There have been periods and stocks where I would actually invest because I saw how greedy or crappy they were and correctly assumed that would boost the share price as quickly as it tanked the reputation.
ZBRA, zebra - use their devices at work and I’ve notice they are practically everywhere.

I'm long ABB and will wait for next year's spin-off of the Robotics division. Also long Kraken. I do think that it's a theme where people have to really consider the business and whether the business is sustainable/there's any sort of moat. Ocado has been around for many years and their robot warehouses are incredibly neat looking but the business is still losing money and Kroger's plans for more Ocado warehouses has been curtailed in recent years after I think there was too much belief that everyone was going to shop online post covid. The stock is down 85% from the covid high. Autostore is a similar name also about 85% off the high. I'm starting to see inventory bots occasionally in stores (ZBRA), but in terms of retail and robotics/automation, how much is retail growing? Not that much. How much is retail wanting to make big investments? Maybe some, but doesn't feel like enough especially once you go beyond the major names. So yeah, I do think that there is something to the idea of investing in robotics but not at this point enough to make it a significant allocation.

I have *most* of my money in ETFs and got lucky with the Vanguard Technology ETF over the past several years. Since I'm old I diversified into bonds and added a small cap ETF recently because small caps have underperformed over the past several years. It's time for that pendalum to swing. That's my 403B. I have a ROTH with core positions in VCR, VOOG, Amazon, Walmart, ABBV and added BABA last month. (I just love BABA and always have, I had to cut it loose when it fell a couple years ago). I also have a *fun* account I trade options in with core positions in VGT and NVDA. My highest convictions right now are HIMS and NBIS. I also like ZBRA and have been waiting for it to fall, which it just did. We'll see where things go. HIMS earnings is this week so it'll run up, but who knows after. Personally I think it's a gold mine and will blow out earnings and run further up, but I have been wrong before. TEM looks really good also but it's volatile so if I decide to jump back in I'm waiting for a bad market day. Those AI health care stocks seem to be doing well. I like to buy LEAPS with options in my fun acct. This gives me a lot of time to become profitable, but I don't necessarily keep until close to expiry. I only play around (options) with about 40k or so. I will never make a million in a week like some on here, but I won't lose a million either. I have fun and keep my losses minimal. I have a deal with myself that when I turn a nice profit (up 50%) I sell a few of whatever stock or option that is and buy more VCR, VGT or VOOG. I don't ever sell the ETFs or core positions in Amazon, Walmart, ABBV, NVDA and now hopefully BABA as long as it continues to show strength. If I need funds I have to sell another stock or add money. IMO, putting a % of my winner stocks into the ETFs and NOT SELLING THE CORE POSITION STOCKS are the keys to success.
leave the mag7 alone...too much craziness...options in lesser known companies. for me tomorrow is TMUS, AS, FIVE, and ZBRA

Thanks for the info. Interesting read. Also looked at a few other reports for 2024: BOOT, PWSC, FND, Z, MSCI. It would seem Spruce's Short Positions have done little on those to drive the price per share down YTD. Have a great weekend. Will dig a little more into ZBRA.

That is good news, then. :) It is probably only good as an acquisition candidate, but not as an investment. There is ARKQ (Autonomous Technology & Robotics ETF) that diversifies into different companies in this sphere instead of just one. It is probably a safer bet. However, I bought IOT (Samsara) in April 2024 and might also buy ZBRA (Zebra Technologies). These companies are in this sphere too and have better outlooks. You can do your research into those two, though.

Also hold $ROK and $ZBRA. $TSLA is large enough part of the index where I don’t feel need to hold individually.

ZBRA earnings Sales down 1.9% Profit up 4.7% EPS $3.94, a decline of 1.7% Pretty flat for an interesting play in warehouse automation.
There are some that they’ve picked that have potential, and recommended at market highs, that could be good pick ups now. Zebra Technologists ($ZBRA) and Autodesk ($ADSK) are down now but I think have long term potential. They were just recommended at the wrong time. I quit their paid service though. Their Lemonade call was atrocious.

Your friend is more accurate. This sub is both uninformed and disinformed about Cramer. Cramer was actually very "legit" when he dominated, yes, dominated the wall street hedge fund industry for 14 years. He delivered 24-27% long term annual returns. That's legit. I worked there then and he was considered kind of a wild animal. Some of the stories were probably exaggerated but some weren't. What struck me as a WoC is that he actually gave women equal respect, which was pretty unusual in that time and place. When he was dominating, he made enemies who spread disinfo about him. Rich enemies. He's a narcissist, and his success plus his belief in himself as a master journalist and mentor led him to quit the industry and focus on his dot com property which (almost) made him a multibillionaire, but it came a bit late in the bubble and imploded for various reasons. He was very outspoken about corruption and related issues, creating new, rich enemies who... spread disinfo about him. He then focused on broadcasting, slamming the industry and hedge fund crooks mercilessly. Guess what? That created enemies who... spread disinfo. A lot of cramer's legit track record came not just from picking stocks, but from incredibly well timed sells. The guy is a savant about knowing when to get out. He's had a handful of perfect "sell everything" calls that have allowed his P&Ls to be so exceptional. He was the sole voice literally screaming for people to sell ALL stocks, long before the great financial collapse. He was mocked for it, but turned out to be very, very right. Same thing when he called the COVID collapse while everyone else mocked him as the market made new highs. He did it again last year, telling people to sell every all specs and spacs. The famous myth about him and Bear Stearns was actually months after he'd already begun telling people to sell everything. His enemies deceptively omit that the clip they use is about saving account deposits, and he was actually 100% correct. Each of these key events brought new armies to spread disinfo. His "wall of shame" called out crooked and incompetent millionaires and billionaires. Guess what they did? In 2015, when a known con artist and sex predator and bigot entered politics, Cramer conspicuously didn't support him as wall streets adopted puppet, but instead made fun of him. That guys cult still pumps up disinfo in retaliation. Then when Cramer sounded the alarm early on COVID, the deniers did the same thing. When he begged the apees to sell the videogame store stock at $474, that army joined the brigade of hate and disinfo. Then when he launched mask and vaccine initiatives, the science denier armies added their hate and disinfo. It continues to this day. Cramer has made a few truly bad calls. But he's owned them. And the fact is his correct calls massively, massively, massively outweigh those few. The guy was first on AAPL, MSFT, NVDA, NFLX, CRM, LRCX, ZBRA, AMZN, and hundreds of other multi-baggers. He's definitely a narcissistic and weirdo. But he's also a genius savant. The hate and disinformation spread about him is ridiculous.

Own: TER- they do a lot of industrial automation equipment. ROK- huge industrial automation player. Watching: EMR- they do a lot of automation. Partnered with AZPN, another big player. MIDD- smaller company that makes kitchen equipment. They have several automated offerings for restaurants. ZBRA- makes a lot of RF id equipment used in warehouse automation. MKSI- another semi equipment company that also does industrial process control equipment.
AOS- $50 ROK-$150 FCX- might buy some today CCJ- same ZBRA-$250 SD-$20

I went from being up 70% over two years (started the account in March 2020) to up 25% now. I’m riding it out, it’s kinda of nerve racking though (thx Valium) I have 5x more equity in the market than I do in my own house I bought year September. I’m definitely overweight tech (NVDA, MSFT, AAPL, GOOGL, AVGO, AMD, ZBRA, etc) but I also have some healthcare, energy, and financials. I get like $300/month in dividends on average and always reinvest them. I could have sold in November for a huge gain and paid off my crib but then I’d be even more anxious rn trying to pick a spot to jump back in. If you’re young (under 40) and long term investor don’t panic sell just wait it out and maybe even buy some stocks when they hit your preferred entries. Good luck to all.

I own ZBRA which was up 8% after earnings beat yesterday. I like the stock so I didn’t want to sell but I thought it would come back to earth today (currently down 4%). I doubt I’ll do this but curious if others have - Does anyone ever do covered calls or puts on an earnings pump on a stock they own? Seems like the majority of time stocks lose some of their post-earnings gains

I get that completely. There’s one thing I forgot to mentioned that has helped, just keep in mind this only works for profitable companies. Instead of just looking at the price, look at the historic P/E ratio (which you can add easily to the price chart on Ameritrade). So going back to my ZBRA example, it had a PE of 41 on January 1st. I was up 40-50% when I bought more in September, but the P/E at that time was around 37. So I’m paying more, but it’s kind of like I’m getting a better deal. That’s just something that’s helped me justify averaging up when I like a stock so maybe check that out for profitable companies
I struggled with this for awhile. My current strategy is don’t buy unless there is some type of retreat of at least a few percentage points, but don’t be bothered by the fact that you’re up quite a bit on the position overall. For example, ZBRA has done well for me since January, but I didn’t start buying more until it started tanking a few weeks ago. I was still up 50% overall when I bought, but I bought when it was down 10% so it felt better. Others might say that if you like the stock long term then just buy it regardless of recent price action, but my brain is incapable of that so I’m left with this strategy

The thing with the historic P/Es is that the denominator changes 4 times a year (for earnings) and the numerator changes day to day. So if Zebra, say, spent a bunch of money on acquisitions or something (assuming they had cash and it wasn't financed through debt) it would impact the earnings until the end of the following quarter. So if there's an anomaly in the P/E you really have to dig through the earnings reports at the beginning of that quarter to see if there's a technical reason for it. I don't follow ZBRA enough to know if there is anything like that the last year but I know they're always spending money to keep their offerings up to date and expand them.
There are two. ZBRA has done great for me, but over the last few months it seems like the price has gone up a lot but the PE has stayed relatively flat. The charts I’ve found (thanks to you) calculate one PE per quarter so I’m going to try and find out if there are charts that calculate on a daily basis. This is purely out of curiosity. The other is KTOS. The P/E ratio when I purchased last fall was over 600, and the last couple have been in the 40s so I wanted to see the historic volatility. Macrotrends is great for that. Since I started working in IT for AMZN I've been pretty impressed by, and considered investing in, some of the companies that support Amazon operations. CGNX, ZBRA, and JLL are all interesting companies that have a bit of a moat in some of what they do and will benefit from Amazon growing.

Here’s a crazy company and stock. $ZBRA Zebra Technologies: Makes paper label tags and RFID asset tags. Up 110% in the last year.
$ZBRA , this stock makes about everything a warehouse needs. From label printers to handheld computers. They also make their own software and give customers the ability to build their own software for it. During Covid a lot of companies throughout Europa and the rest of the world were forced to close, but more and more companies are transforming their business model to online shopping and delivery. Since Zebra excells in this, I expect a very very steep growth this quarter, this year, and the coming years. Even when Covid is gone this company will keep growing and growing. Target marketcap is 200 billion based on industry growth and company growth/market share.
Everything will take a hit but tech and ev has seen some strong support after selloffs. Fucked man isnt the word. Hedge funds are more into housing than owning shares. They usually short companies as it's easier. Tech and EV cant go away, but housing as we know it could change. The stocks are so high because the whole world invests in USA stocks, not the usa economy. Plus hedge funds love shorting tech and ev so fuck them. Not financial advice but I love TSLA PLTR NIO NVDA and ZBRA right now.
I am bullish on tech. It's the future. BUT SCHD, ZBRA are not tech, TRMB is not really tech in the same sense as the other companies and is partially manufacturing as well, DIS has a tech component but is also a reopening play and more. PYPL SQ AAPL are established companies and not over hyped EV plays. PLTR CRM NVDA are growing tech and I believe in them.
Only stock I got from Reddit here was PLTR. Call me dumb but I believe in the company. PYPL, SQ, AAPL are insutry staples. DKNG, CRM, NVDA are in rapidly expanding sectors, I like their products/uses. TRMB and ZBRA I most cerinatly did not find on Reddit and think they are under talked about. They are not really tech and they are dominant forces in their sectors.
SCHD, DIS, TRMB, ZBRA are not tech. PYPL, SQ, NVA, AAPL are tech but established companies with near monopolies/overall dominance in their industry. DKNG, PLTR. CRM are in growing sectors I believe in. Tech is the future and I believe in it but my portfolio is not all in it.

I thought my SNE play was great. Then I saw SE. I thought my PANW play was great. Then I saw ZBRA. Less GME, more of these. Players need to be more vocal.
I gotta start thinking about what to do with my little pride and joy - that's my ZBRA $260c 1/2022 that I bought for $5700 in July 2020. It's worth over $26k as of today, so about 4.5x in 7 months. The underlying has gotten up to $515, so it's basically almost moving as shares now. The goal is to get to July 2021 and sell when it turns into long term gains (I pay 20% on those), whereas I pay 35% on STCG. That difference is enough to keep me holding until summer at least. Still a long way off, just idle thoughts.

Super new to options and a little nervous. Today I has a ZBRA 460/470 call that I had purchased last month expire ITM. I have a relatively small account (less than $25k). I paid $176 for the spread. I didn't realize that I had margin on for my robinhood account. ($1000). Right now it is saying my account is in deficit and in the option events, It looks like it is trying to buy $46,000 worth of ZBRA stock and then sell it for $47,000. I understand that part about options, but with my account being basically locked down, is that normal? Or have I royally fucked up?
